ConnorsDad got a reaction from simple in Who are the most knowledgable posters on this forum?
Since Christmas is coming up I thought I would lighten it up a little and put this out there. There are numerous posters who I think are more knowledgeable than me, that would be almost all of you, but here are a few who I think are not only the most knowledgeable but objective as well:
    wrestlingnerd
    LJB
    VakAttak
    SteamboatCharlie
    Housebye
By the way, I know this wasn't part of the title, but after last weekend I can honestly say that any of you who think TBarr is the biggest homer or the most unobjective are sorely mistaken. He is not even in the top 10. I give him a hard time every once in a while but at least he will admit he's a homer for Penn State and, in my opinion, very knowledgeable. Some of my Cornell fan brothers literally need a reality check and to lighten up as do some of the Hawkeye fans. Some of these guys make me look knowledgeable and to hear them talk you would think every time one of their wrestlers lost it was because of bad officiating  or some other thing out of their control.
Anyway just something to have fun with and I hope everybody has a Merry Christmas. I must admit personally that having my son land at home today from college might be the best Christmas present I've ever received.

I'm from Upstate NY (cow country), and we have our problems too.  I spent 40 years working at a machine tool company, where jabbing each other was a daily occurence.  I got pretty good at it.  About the only rules were: 1) Don't dish it out if you can't take it, and, 2) The family is out of bounds.  Time permitting, we designed and built the finest machine tools on the planet.  In about the early 2000s, the beancounters took over, outsourcing became our "core competency", and everything went to shid.  I was glad to retire in 2015.  I worked with other employees and customers from all over the country and all over the world, and learned on some level we're all the same, and the differences are what makes life fun.

i saw it live and felt the same thing - Foca is funky and won a few key freestle positions.  I do not think he is exiting to get in a lineup.  Could be economic - Cornell does not give athletic aid.  He may also simply wish to graduate and take some scholarship $$ for grad school.   Nothing wrong with that.

I just watched the match from the last chance qualifier. I don't think you can get any information from that match on how they would do in folkstyle, imo.

This is the problem in this country. Everyone is so polarized that it's impossible to talk about a middle ground, which is where reality tends to dwell.
It's possible to give Nick Lee a huge kudos for wrestling the tournament of his life and at the same time acknowledge the predictable dropoff in motivation, focus, and even physical energy that results from a major letdown for guys not only expecting to win but who also were expected to win (by their coaches, team mates, you know ... people who actually matter). I don't know if Nick Lee was really expecting to win with confidence or if he just thought he had a shot and was there to maximize it--only he knows--but Zain went from being the rep to not even making the best of 3 and Yianni took all year off to think about that moment constantly and was munching on a turd sandwich when he wrestled Lee. It's totally reasonable to say Zain and Yianni were not at their best in a (to them) meaningless consolation bracket where not even true 2nd was at play. Lee is still at the point in his career where every match against a top guy is additive and is coming off the mother of all highs after winning his first NCAA title. Zain and Yianni were there a few years ago, but are in a different place mentally now.

I don't know why they didn't because I don't know the inner workings of each one of those guys. But you don't have to be Freud to know it is true. How many times in tournaments has Wrestler A, having beat Wrestler B early in the tournament, then loses to him later after getting knocked out of the winners bracket himself? Countless! It happens all the time. Why? Some people naturally wrestle hard all the time, some people may not have expected much (N. Lee at Oly Trials) while others, like Yianni, expected to win. When their dream was crushed, they didn't handle it as well but they were brought up not to quit so they go out there with, sometimes, strange results. It happens all the time, has happened to me (my excuse and I'm sticking to it), my son, Jordan Burroughs (Getting teched in the repechage at Worlds) and so on.

I agree, though it seems like Lee has made a big jump in the past year and beating guys Like Yianni and Zain could provide a significant boost in confidence (even if it wasn't their best efforts).
As with everything in wrestling and life, we shall see.

ConnorsDad got a reaction from southend in Nick Lee!
Although I am not a PSU fan, Nick Lee is one of my favorite wrestlers. He goes about his job, not overly obnoxious, no dick moves, and so on. However, let's not think that matches on the back side of the Olympic Trials with Yianni and Zain are going to get those guy's best efforts. Their dream has ended for a minimum of 3 years so I doubt they much give a ****. Hell look at all the forfeits. Happy for Nick, including NCAA's, but let's pump the brakes a little.

Nice try.  Lets look at the evidence.  Your user name is "1032004".
What letter does 1 COINCIDENTALLY resemble?  A capital I.
0 is obviously similar to O.  So we're at IO.
    What is a 3 but a sideways W?  IOW.
Finally, 2004.  The UN designated the year 2004 as the "International Year of Rice."  What State produces the most rice in the US?  That's right, Arkansas.  What is the first letter in Arkansas?  Right again, it's A.
    Nice try, Coach Brands.

Being on the Olympic team is itself a prize. One that should be awarded based on competition. The idea that we, as a nation, need to put the “best” team on the mad bothers me.  I am far more concerned with fairness to individual athletes than I am to putting together our “best“ team.
