  1. Interesting how Hamlin not mentioned here. Hamlin is 4-1 lifetime v. Bosak (only loss was a 1-pt at Cornell). Note that Bosak did not have to go through Hamlin to win his title last year. Ruth is clearly the favorite... but I think a two-handed Hamlin will give him a greater challenge than Bosak. The "two-handed hamlin" argument again? Sheesh.
  2. Believe me I like Stieber. I firmly believe he will be Maples finals opponent. I simply don't think he can slow down Maple enough to beat him. No slight to Stieber I just think Maple is that solid. As far as St. John goes I don't necessarily think he is a better wrestler than McDonough I just don't think the talent is there in the weight to knock him off while I think there are guys closer to McDonough in his weight. Since the question is highest probability of winning THAT is why I have St. John over McDonough. That is what I was arguing against lol. I know he is not the better wrestler of the two. I just think that saying a 3 time finalist / 2 time champ returning at his weight for his senior season is less likely to win than a 1 time finalist is a bit strange. Especially when I think McD is the most likely to win of anyone in the country lol
  3. I think you are severly overlooking Hunter Steiber in you analysis of Maple. That aside though, how in the world can you say St. John is more likely to win that McDonough? That is outrageous!!! (and im a huge PSU/Megaludis fan)
  4. Im going to say McD has the best chance, him being a 2 time previous Champ at this weight and all and being as dominant as he always was Then in order: Ruth (Even moving up in weight, he is a machine) Perry (He is only this high because 174 doesnt impress me much). L. Steiber (Don't see him losing if he is focused and makes no mistakes) Oliver (I wont write off Chamberlin just yet, but Oliver should win) Kilgore (Can never count out Q in March, but Kilgore is a monster) St. John (He looks good, but I could see him dropping one in the tournament) Maple (Hunter is no slouch, plus Mangrum / Graff etc. and Maple needs to prove himself in March) Dake / Taylor (I put them at the bottom because while I think they are without a doubt two of the best college wrestlers on this list...only one can win and they happen to be in the same weight :D )
  5. Yo be fair, statistically speaking this would be correct. Although, this topic, and the reason behind it, is obviously those arguing that "Dake destroyed Taylor in freestyle, he would obviously beat him easily in folk". That argument is obviously nonsense, or at least if you are rational/unbiased/and honest it is.
  6. Yeah because the last 3 years Dake has gone undefeated during the regular season.  at this response. I'd also like to add that obviously Dake showed he is leaps and bounds ahead of Taylor in folk right now. No chance Taylor can over-turn that rideout OT loss - they are not even on the same level  And obviously David Taylor is no Kevin LeValley, or Donnie Vinson...
  7. I agree I don't think that 133 would be the reason behind PSU not winning another title should that happen. Sort of like Vak said - Taylor / Ruth seem to be the driving force here. They need titles it seems. Other than that both Altons, and Brown need to be big contributors. Wright needs to simply do what he has done at the NCAAs. They don't need a title from him it seems, but they most certainly need a deep run and bonus wherever possible. It's not going to be an easy road this year, each piece to the puzzle has some big obstacles to overcome in March. Can't wait to watch the attempt!!
  8. a. Absolutely correct my friend. b. Agree, however it is no different that the freestyle folkstyle excuses for DT v. Dake when it comes to "offseason exhibitions". A. Thank you! B. It is totally different in the sense that freestyle does not translate directly into folkstyle (which was and continues to be my argument there). In the sense of using "it was the offseason and didnt meant much that is why Taylor lost to Dake in freestyle" or "that is why Hamlin lost to Ruth" then I agree with you..that is nonsense. He lost to Dake in free because Dake was better that day and seems ahead of Taylor in freestyle overall at this point. And Hamlin lost to Ruth (both times) because Ruth seems to be the better wrestler at this point. Period. But just as I wouldnt count out Taylor against Dake in upcoming matches, I will certainly not count out Hamlim (this is worth repeating!)...the kid is a monster. Although, I think he has much slimmer a shot of beating Ruth than Taylor does of Dake...IMO
  9. This thread is ridiculous. It reminds me of the Ruth-Amuch situation over the last two years...when everyone was saying Amuch should be the favorite...he is going to win...Ruth wasn't hurt...the surgury on his knee was fake..blah blah. Only this time it is weirder, because he won! Stop with the "Hamlin had one hand stuff". Maybe it would hold some weight had Ruth not already beaten him when he had both hands. Ruth is clearly the favorite in this match-up. But I would not at all count Hamlin out...he is a machine. Just in no way the favorite. I think Ruth wins this match a large majority of the time.
  10. Call me out, that's fine. But do it on things I actually said. Otherwise I agree...it is total nonsense.
  11. I really wish I saw this sooner. I have been a little busy and not around, not ducking anything...that is silly...especially given the actual predictions I made and things I said (as opposed to the ridiculous straw man you are building around me) Please show me when I said "Dake would get killed in freestyle". Check the prediction thread. I said I saw the match one of two ways... High scoring (Taylor pace) and Taylor wins tight. OR. Low scoring (Dake pace) and Dake wins tight. I was leaning towards the Taylor scenario...obviously that didn't happen. But for you to make it out to seem that I said anything close to what you implied is just nonsense. Check the threads and quote me...it is there. You are a little cry baby man you were not close at all...Bragging that Taylor would really get KD You and your magic boy loose admit it and let it go..You have been throwing it in our faces that DT will get him in folk, DT wants to win a gold in 2016 is what he said in the interview. Thats not going to happen if he can't beat Dake or Howe and Freestyle matters more than folk cause that is his ultimate goal. Back to my point your and Flying Tiger were way off on this and now its time you eat crap Are you just going to continue to accuse me of saying things I have never said, even when I give you direct quotes showing you what I actually said in contrast to your accusations? Please show me when/where I said anything like: - "Bragging that Taylor would really get KD" - "throwing it in our faces that DT will get him in folk" - Or any of the other nonsense you are accusing me of. You can't just assert that I said all these things when I, in fact, didn't. And as for me not being close? I'd say my prediction of a 3-2 loss (if Taylor were to lose) vs. the 2-1 actual outcome is pretty close... Read dsnc471's post and see how to rationally make an argument / have a discussion - otherwise you will just continue to make yourself look stupid.
  12. I think we have a lot that we agree on. And I do have a hard time believing that a rematch in March would be 2-1 in rideouts. Both guys were wrestling not to lose in the All Star match. But then again, maybe an NCAA finals match would be the same. Plenty of guys wrestle not to lose in the NCAA finals as well. I can't see Taylor trying something risky against Dake, because if you press the action too much and give up a takedown, that might be the match right there. After seeing the All Star match, I really can't envision a high scoring match between those two. Maybe a combined total of 6 points instead of 3, but not many. Id definitely have to say that I dont really think either one of these guys would go out and wrestle to not lose the NCAA Finals. I dont think it is in either of their natures honestly...
  13. There was really only one thing you were wrong on in your prediction, and that was: "I have a really really realllllllyy hard time picturing Taylor being shut out, by anyone." To be honest I thought he would score at least once, but I also thought Dake would score. Very tentative match. Almost like they don't want to show all their cards before March. The other thing that I would disagree with you on is when you say the freestyle match meant NOTHING. It did mean something, but only if interpreted in the proper context. The 5-0, pin doesn't translate to folkstyle. And to be honest, I think if they wrestled another freestyle match, it wouldn't be that lopsided. I could see Dake winning a 1-0, 1-0 match. Folks have been getting far too bent out of shape (in both directions) from isolated matches. We all know that one match can be lopsided, and then the rematch can have a completely different outcome. Here's what I think the take home message from the freestyle match was: Ignore the 5-0, pin aspect of it. Taylor was not able to simply reach out and grab Dake's ankles, or move him around the mat and make him look bad, like he does to everyone else he wrestles. His NCAA finals match last year looked like drilling in the practice room. But Dake was able to win the handfighting game and control the ties, so Taylor's offense didn't work. Subtract the exposure in both periods and the pin from that match, and you'd have a pretty boring 1-0, 1-0 match. And that's basically what their All Star match was like. My basis for putting weight on the freestyle result was not the result itself, but details of the match independent of the scoring. I definitely didn't think Dake would blow Taylor out of the water in folkstyle, but I have strongly disagreed with those who have said that the result we saw at the OTT was completely dependent on the style. The score was dependent on the style, but the reason Dake won was not. For the record though, obviously these two guys are very close to each other. I understand your analysis, and I respect it very much. I have had very rational exchanges on these boards with you, so I know you are not spouting the nonsense that the guy who started this thread is. I have to disagree only in that I dont believe I ever said the FS result meant nothing, only that it didnt mean as much as made out to and it definitely does not translate directly into folk. And yes, I was certainly wrong saying that I had a really really hard time seeing Taylor get shut out, at least in this one match. Even after seeing it I still have a hard time thinking it happens again haha. Dake wrestled a masterful match to neutralize Taylor...but something tells me that if they happened to meet on the raised mat in March he would be forced to be a bit more offensive... The part of your response I bolded I think is spot on....I am as certain as I can reasonably be that they both were a bit tentative...
  14. I really wish I saw this sooner. I have been a little busy and not around, not ducking anything...that is silly...especially given the actual predictions I made and things I said (as opposed to the ridiculous straw man you are building around me) Please show me when I said "Dake would get killed in freestyle". 15. Here, I will do the work for you. From the Prediction Thread, I said: "I have a really really realllllllyy hard time picturing Taylor being shut out, by anyone. Onto a prediction. I see it one of two ways. 1) Taylor wins something like 9-6 (fairly high scoring) 2) Dake wins something like 3-2 (fairly low scoring)" I think I was pretty spot on. Now I did see Taylor opening it up more and scoring and winning, I was wrong. But the way you make it sound just makes you look stupid. Furthermore, and the most important point here, is that I would LOVE to know how a 2-1 OT rideout decision for Dake somehow validates the side of people saying things like "Dake pinned him in FS, he is head and shoulders above Taylor in folk too, he will crush him, etc, etc" and at the same time invalidates the people (like myself) saying the FS result DOES NOT translate to folkstyle. IT OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT. A win is a win, and congrats to Dake for getting it done....but if you want to say a ride-out victory in the All Star meet is decisive to prove that Dake is the better folkstyler...you are being ridiculously biased. Im still willing to bet on Taylor. Even more so in fact, because I'd be getting laid odds!

  17. I completely disagree. I think he made it clear that he is very exicited, but he also understands that it is only a pre-season match up, no matter how much hype there is. He fully expects to be battling Dake all year at 165, so it is no surprise that he isn't jumping off of his seat at this pre season match.
  18. IMO No, Dake is to much of a Warrior to do that. The Odds on Dake loosing Three Matches this Yr to Anyone has to be 100000 - 1 ;) Agree on the warrior part, Kyle has never ducked anyone ever. As a coach I thought it was crazy of him in HS to go 130 his junior year when he would've walked through 125. That is why Kyle is who he is and I am a schlep who posts on a forum. Unless Koll gets on him to go 157, he will stay. 100% agree. If Dake ends up at 157 this season, I would not at all say it was to avoid Taylor. Furthermore, if this particular situation occurred (or one similar), there is no way he would drop down! And this is coming from a Taylor fan...Dake is too good and at too high of a level to do something like this. I am sure he would much rather go after the best possible and have a chance to lose than drop down and most likely walk through.
  19. This is all from the same person, in the same thread. He goes from Dake not being enthusiastic enough for this match, to choosing to believe Dake will be passionate. And my favorite: He has a range of predictions varying from Dake winning by fall, all the way to Taylor winning by a margin of 4-5 pts. And then has the audacity to say: " I dont HEDGE"
  20. Maybe Ill just write this alone, and say nothing else in my post so you can't ignore it. "You made outlandish statements that make you look like a fool (not surprisingly), and when I directly counter them you just go on some vague tangent about who knows what and ignore the criticisms completely."
  21. Are you quoting yourself...im a bit unclear? Im not 100% sure you understand what quotation marks are used for... And ill just point out how you continue to do this (which I pointed out a few posts ago): "You made outlandish statements that make you look like a fool (not surprisingly), and when I directly counter them you just go on some vague tangent about who knows what and ignore the criticisms completely." *Note: ^This is how you use quotations, to cite something said previously, not whatever you used them for.
  22. It really is no use even talking with Marty, I know this and I still do it anyway. I just like to point out the instances where he is being a) evasive b) dishonest c) moronic or d) some combination of a, b, c, and a few other adjectives I left out. Example: I also, like his ability more when he is cut to a conditioned weight -instead of accepting the extra weight jump (165). This is both b and c. Dishonest because he is making it seem as if Dake is moving up a weight to wrestler Taylor, therefore giving Taylor an advantage. So if Taylor wins, "so what Dake went up a weight he should have beaten him". If Taylor loses, "haha see! Taylor can't even beat Dake when he is going up a weight!" This is sleight of hand at best, and an awful attempt at hedging at worst. Moronic because it is common knowledge by this point that all indications at this point (including from Cornell directly) are that Dake is going 165 this season, so he is not making "an extra weight jump", and Marty knows it. **Edit: Marty, none of us should have to read any (let alone all) of your posts here, remember? Didn't Taylor win the Big 10s as a Freshman???
  23. Odd that you didn't address any of my criticisms directly. Speaking vaguely and in generalities gets you nowhere. You made outlandish statements that make you look like a fool (not surprisingly), and when I directly counter them you just go on some vague tangent about who knows what and ignore the criticisms completely. Not to mention you continue to tell us all how you long ago about the rise of "Kid Dynamite" ...laughable. And You didn't answer my final question. You know, about Taylor winning the Big 10s as a freshman.?
  24. 1- The people supporting Taylor all along have posted their predictions of how he wins many times already, some even in this thread. 2- Wow, if that doesn't sound like hedging your bet, I don't know what does  *Note:The statement immediatly following this, about Dake "not being overly enthused against moderate competition in Dec. etc" is absolutely laughable, you moron. To call Taylor moderate competition, which Dake would not be overly enthused about, wow. This from the guy who has never taken a shot at Taylor (or any other wrestler), right? 3- What do you know, another hedge (*cough* excuse). You can't call Dake wrestling at 165 an "extra weight jump" if it has been professed, by the team, that he is most likely going 165 all season. Finally...Did Taylor win the Big 10s his Freshman year? I don't recall...any input on that result Marty?
