  1. These are exactly the same thing's that were said about Taylor. Uhh what? Who said "DT is considerably better than Dake right now?" or "DT has the potential to be the best wrestler the US has ever produced?" I am a huge DT fan...and I was among the people predicting Taylor could and would beat Dake (losing the would part obviously)...but nobody ever legitimately said Taylor was ahead of Dake the way Burroughs is...as great as Taylor is - a World and Olympic Champion - undefeated to boot - he aint. (yet ;) )
  2. "137-4" will not look as cool on the Wheaties box as "159-0"!
  3. Agreed that to say he definitely beats Reader is foolish - Reader was a monster. BUT...I think you are forgetting exactly how good Ruth was (even being "green"). He beat Henrich and Lewnes (the #1/#2 ranked guys for most of that season) on the same day - twice! I think Ruth beats Reader - but we will never know. I just think it is just as silly to say he had no chance to win (I know that is not what you said exactly) as it is to say he had no chance to lose.
  4. I think it became pretty clear the following year that the injury he sustained was probably 95% to blame for him losing to Amuch - especially like that. I mean we all know how quickly/effortlessly Ruth can score. Not to mention how badly he manhandled Amuch the following year. There were pages upon pages of this discussion after it happened - obviously those on the side of "the injury had a lot to do with it" were correct (as opposed to those saying "he was faking" or something similar) I actually can't believe this is being discussed again.
  5. I will have to dig out the old records. It happened in 2009, I believe. I will be back with it when I have time. Are you sure you arnt talking about this?
  6. Regarding this "Taylor MVP" stuff from the article. Are you guys serious? Read it more closely. The guy didn't say "Taylor is the MVP of this tournament for this team." He was saying that over the past 3 years he has been the heart/soul/MVP of the team. So all the - "Ruth scored more points and won the tournament" talk is just pointless.
  7. Whether you mean to nit pick or not - you are. No, having the same skill level (as I defined it) doesn't mean they have the exact same chance to do all those things you listed - it is just one variable. They still have to have a good training environment, match-up against opponents, be lucky, etc, etc, etc, etc. Dake has the edge head to head is what I said. Skill level can be equal and style match-ups can dictate who is better head to head... Lets just let it rest it's getting exhausting now. Okay. But why do you think that Dake has the edge if they are "exactly" the same in the skill department? Now I think you are just f**king with me! Dake has the edge head to head - I said already that I think this comes down to a style/match up problem, not because one guys is just on a different level (for example Taylor vs Caldwell.)
  8. Good to know that Taylor needs to hope Howe isn't in his weight or he stands no chance at a 2nd title
  9. I do. A healthy Ruth - even as a freshman - was just dominant and unstoppable. Would have been fun to watch.
  10. Whether you mean to nit pick or not - you are. 11. What I mean when I say "skill" is this - the talent and ability to accomplish and achieve the same degree of success. Do I think they are equal in that? yes. Do I think head to head Dake has the edge? certainly (although it is very close IMO and can be turned)
  12. I mean they have the same level of skill? I don't know how else to say that? Do I believe they are on the exact same level? Skill wise? Yes. Accomplishment wise? No. But we are getting down into some very semantic and much too unnecessarily specific argument levels here. So lets just cut it off and agree to disagree on all counts - obviously we evaluate the evidence differently - so we can not agree.
  13. Sure seems like you weigh the fall in freestyle most heavily...but I digress. Saying a 5-4 match won on a RT point where each wrestler had 1 TD is down to the wire ... technically that may be subjective I suppose - but that is a semantic argument - it is much closer to following the evidence than saying "it wasn't all that close". And I did not once fail to admit Dake is better. I think I actually said that in an earlier post. That isn't the argument we are having here.
  14. I heard that and we all tried it on Saturday night. I ripped out 5 legit ones on my first try, and I had a few cocktails. One of the girls who was here got 2. A few other guys got 1. Yea it sounds a lot more impressive than it is unfortunately
  15. So you are taking their 4 matches - throwing two of them out - weight the one that was under totally different rules most heavily - and subjectively calling the most recent one "not very close". From that you form the opinion "Dake is more likely to get a pin than Taylor a win". All I can say is that is not 100% honest/accurate evaluation of the evidence.
  16. I mean that I certainly take an experienced David Taylor over an experienced Bubba Jenkins - and I don't think that would be all that close - regardless of their only meeting (Freshman Taylor vs. Senior Bubba). I'd even take Freshman Taylor in a rematch over Senior Bubba - but that is a much harder argument to make / win. History will tell...I think that 99% of people will rate Taylor as a better NCAA wrestler when he is finished than Bubba - he certainly will have a better career.
  17. The problem we are having is how can you watch 3 down to the wire matches in a row, one won in OT and one with a very late reversal, and come to that conclusion! Agree to disagree I suppose.
  18. If you answer his question by saying "Yes, I can accept that as a possibility" what then? You still think it was a wrong call and took away Ramos chance to win - the other guy still disagrees. Useless. ***This 600 character limit is awful.
  19. Vak you are missing my point, or I am not making it clearly. I was responding directly to the guy who asked you "Maybe it was Terry Brands' legs that took away Tony Ramos' best chance. Can you at least accept this as a possibility?" I am not saying that discussing what could have happened the rest of the match had the points been awarded is useless...im saying - very specifically - that this type of questioning trying to validate a point is completely useless.
  20. "Less elite"? I agree Bubba is not Dake - he is not even David Taylor...but he is still certainly elite - he his an NCAA champion and two time finalist - that puts him up in the elite category. (Not to mention a Junior World Champion). It is not as if Taylor was stuck by the #23 ranked guy in the country. And Im not going to go into why it is less likely to see a Dake pin than a Taylor win again. Everything that needs to be said already has.
  21. Count the freestyle result all you want...you still have no ground to stand on if you say that Dake is more likely to pin Taylor (in a future folkstyle match) than Taylor is to beat Dake. If anything, with how little you expect an elite guy like that to get pinned, the fact that he was already pinned (albeit in freestyle) works against the likelihood of him being pinned in a future match up!
  22. 1. I am not an Iowa fan. 2. You have to know that I was saying that precisely because it is absurd - to illustrate my point...right? You have to know that...
  23. I didn't say it was? My point was getting into the "Don't you think this is at least possible?" game is totally useless.
  24. You're right. Nobody thought Taylor (with his 3 career losses - two of them to Dake by 1 pt - and in OT and on a late reversal no less- and one being an exibition) stood any chance of winning.
