  1. He won Ali Aliev (seniors) earlier this year...
  2. Elam looking amazing, and as someone else already observed, gigantic. On to the finals with a tech.
  3. Brooks still rolling... up 5-1 against AZE before DQ for headbutts.
  4. Whatever fleeting chance we had at taking the team title is pretty much out the window with that loss.
  5. Fair enough, just pointing out that they've had at least 1 tough match : / I'm not quite as confident as you on the Brooks Gvaramia result but hope you're right
  6. @ 79kg Gvaramia took out Ramazan Sari in the second round (Junior Euro champ from Turkey). Close match though. Gvaramia is a cadet world champ as well.
  7. Correct. This kid Magomedov they have at 97kg has multiple wins over ranked wrestlers at the senior level.
  8. Russia hasn't dropped a single match, and they've outscored their opponents by a combined score of 133-17 (counting pins as 10-0).
  9. Confirmed by OSU Wrestling twitter just now. Micah has to be the favorite in this matchup. That said, Hayes has the advantage on the mat... one turn is all it takes. It'll be a best of 3 though.
  10. My guess would be that Hayes challenges at wrestle-offs at 149, loser moves up to 157. Same as McKenna/Hayes last year.
  11. Right... good point. There are a couple other solid 33's out there... perhaps Duncan from Illinois is in that group too. One other question for anyone really... is the assumption now that Suriano will remain at 125? I was under the impression he's headed up but just saw elsewhere that he's not...
  12. He's looked OK recently, but he's had a number of very close matches with unranked opponents, as well as taking I think 5 losses this year? Hard to lose that many matches and still be considered top 3.
  13. I think most people in this thread are actually being pretty reasonable. He has loads of talent and would be a potential AA in a lot of weight classes, but 133 this year is really deep. I'd put him in the third tier at that weight, at least for now. He could prove this wrong in a hurry, though. Thinking a couple of these guys might try to make the cut to 125. Tier 1 Gross Micic Suriano Fix Tier 2 Lizak Arujau Wilson Pletcher Parker Bridges Tier 3 DeSanto Gomez RBY Terao Erneste Phillippi Myers Tucker
  14. I see no reason not to take his word for it. He was pretty unequivocal last year when he said he won't be seeing 74kg again.
  15. Has anyone done a really deep dive on recruiting rankings and expected point outcomes? Always feels like recruiting class team rankings are missing something. Championship teams are built on classes like Nolf/Nevills/Nickal... not 8 guys ranked in the 15 - 100 range. Perhaps the Class of 2018 is a bad example, because Ohio State and Penn State both have multiple top 10 guys, in addition to a handful of other quality recruits.
  16. Great news. Hopefully there is another positive update on Monday.
  17. I'm not offended in the slightest by wrestlers trying to promote an exhibition match and build some hype. I am offended, however, by how idiotic JO's trash talk is. If you're gonna do it, at least do it well. On a serious note, assuming Zain is healthy and ready to compete (seems like he might not be?), who does an exhibition matchup benefit more? Oliver won their last meeting but it's been a long time, and will be a long time until the next qualification cycle.
  18. All fair points. It's difficult to quantify the impact.
  19. Impossible to make a conclusive statement either way at the moment. Who will they get in 2020? What's the situation now if they had come in 5th last year rather than 3rd? Is there more heat on Brands? Does DeSanto still transfer? IMO it was important for them to get Lee out on the mat sooner rather than later, provided he was ready (which he obviously was).
