    Missouri - '18/'19

Just wanted to start a thread for general discussion for the balance of this season. - Duals (10-0) with N. Iowa & Oklahoma St. still upcoming at Home. - CKLV (2nd behind Ohio St.). 125: Colby Smith, Jr. (6-1) #18 per FLO. Limited matches due to a very tough cut. Only loss is to #3 Bresser at Vegas. A key component if the Tigers hope to contend for a top 4-6 finish. 133: John Erneste, Sr. (11-3) #11 in arguably the DEEPEST NCAA weight. R12 last season. Losses this season to #2 Suriano, #8 Lizak, & #17 Paetzell. Tough cut also. Hoping for an AA finish for John in his final season. 141: Jaydin Eierman, Jr. (15-2) #3 with losses to #1 Yianni & #2 McKenna. 2X AA (5,4). Very talented, unorthodox, & fun to watch. 3rd place may be his ceiling but can score big points at NCAA with his bonus potential. 149: Brock Mauller, Fr-true, (19-1) #12. Split with #11 Degen. Pulled out of his shirt after AA Leeth was injured at Vegas (out for the season). Will be interesting to see what his ceiling is this season ? AA ? 157: Jarrett Jacques, Fr-true, (18-5) #18 with recent wins over Smythe, Humphreys, & Stroker. Has shown improvement as season has progressed. Could score some much needed points at NCAA. 165: Conner Flynn, Jr. (13-3) #13 with losses to #8 Ashworth, #12 Steiert, & split with #17 Gunther. R24 last season. Probably the 2nd deepest weight behind 133 will make it difficult to reach AA status. 174: Daniel Lewis, Sr. (15-1) #4 with his only loss to #3 Amine in Vegas finals. 3X AA (4,6,4). Daniel has been the model of consistency during his 4 years in Columbia. He will truly be missed. Like Eierman, his ceiling may be 3rd/4th, but will likely score big points at NCAA with his bonus potential. 184: Dylan Wisman, Jr. (13-5) #15 with losses to #2 Parker, #6 ZZ (twice), #10 Preisch, & Looney. Big win against #9 Dean at South Beach. Appears to have won the spot from a very capable Canten Marriott (R24 last season). 197: Wyatt Koelling, So. (14-7) #20 with no “bad” losses. With the exit of 3X AA Miklus to Iowa St., Wyatt has seized the opportunity and has not disappointed. He continues to improve and has a become a very tough out. A recent big win over #9 Brunner at South Beach. Hoping for some points at NCAA from Koelling. 285: Zach Elam, Fr-true, (15-5) #16 with a 3rd place finish at Vegas. Wins over #11 Thomas & #12 Gunning as well as several losses to unranked wrestlers. A bit inconsistent, but shows tremendous potential as a true frosh. Excited to see Zach compete for 4 seasons. Thoughts on this Teams 2019 NCAA prospects ?

Harding was R16 in 2015 & R32 in 2016. With that being said, I am hoping he makes a deep run in his final season. Also agree that Branch would be a great replacement at OSU although I would hate for Wyoming to lose him.
  12. I have been a strong proponent of an 8 team playoff with all P5 champs + best non P5 + the remaining 2 highest ranked Teams. Seeded 1 thru 8. With that being said, your suggestion is interesting and has merit.

The following is Mizzou's Press Release for Friday's Dual at Ohio U. Of Note : 1) Colby Smith is listed at 133. Read into that as you choose. 2) For Ohio, it appears that Cam Kelly will assume the 141 starting role from Kyran Hagan. ================================================================================================================================================ COLUMBIA, Mo. – Fifth-ranked Mizzou Wrestling travels to Athens, Ohio, this Friday to take on MAC foe Ohio at 6 p.m. (CT). The dual is Mizzou's first since going a perfect 4-0 at the South Beach Duals from Dec. 29-30 in Fort Lauderdale. The Tigers carry a 30-match dual winning streak into Friday's dual as the team sits at a perfect 10-0 during the 2018-19 season. Ohio comes into Friday's dual at 2-2 on the year. Mizzou and Ohio last met on Dec. 10, 2017, at the Hearnes Center as the Tigers earned a 36-3 win, claiming nine of the 10 weight classes. In fact, Mizzou has won all six duals against the Bobcats since joining the MAC for the 2012-13 season. The closest Ohio has come to knocking off the Tigers was a 25-18 decision in Athens on Dec. 13, 2014. Over the last three meetings with Ohio, Mizzou has outscored the Bobcats, 98-19, winning 25 of 30 bouts. Below is the lineup that Coach Brian Smith will send to the mat Friday. As many as five freshmen could be in the lineup for Mizzou. 125 – Dack Punke (6-4) vs. Shakur Laney or Trevor Giallombardo 133 – #9 John Erneste (12-2) or #18 Colby Smith (6-2) vs. Mario Guillen 141 – #3 Jaydin Eierman (15-2) or Allan Hart (9-5) vs. Cameron Kelly 149 – #14 Brock Mauller (20-1) vs. Alec Hagan 157 – #19 Jarrett Jacques (18-5) vs. Zac Carson 165 – #13 Connor Flynn (13-3) vs. Colt Yinger 174 – #4 Daniel Lewis (15-1) vs. Logan Stanley 184 – #15 Dylan Wisman (13-5) vs. Hunter Yeargan 197 – #20 Wyatt Koelling (12-7) vs. Aaron Naples/Nate Hall 285 – #16 Zach Elam (15-5) vs. Zack Parker

Win. Can Boo coming off a long absence/injury now beat Gfeller who has won all 16 of his matches since taking over 149 ? If yes, I completely agree with you that Boo should get 149 back. However, I wonder if that is the case ? Hence the speculation that Boo "may" wrestle 157. Depends what your definition of "winning" is. If you mean Championship, then I agree. There are 4 Team Trophies. The Cowboys are very much in contention for 2nd/3rd/4th. Who occupies 149 & 157 could prove to be the difference between 2nd/3rd, 3rd/4th, or 4th/5th. Only Coach Smith knows how important "final placement" is to him & the Program.

Agree that the 157 hole is more of a concern than 141. Gfeller has earned the right to stay at 149. Could Boo score points at 157 ? is Geo Martinez officially done ?
  17. I talked to the Hofstra coach at Vegas. They have a “roster limit” which is a real challenge regarding workout partners, etc. Considering these restraints, I believe he is doing a good job overall. OU - too early to judge. Maryland - obviously long overdue for a change in leadership.

    South Beach Duals - opportunity

RichB nailed it. The 2 Coaches that were instrumental in creating this event (Rob Koll & Brian Smith) have no desire to make this a bracketed/meat-grinder event. The purpose is/was to get their wrestlers matches during the Holiday break with the "flexibility" to dual opponents of THEIR choosing. And Florida is a nice late-December destination. This has become a nice Event in just a few years and serves the purpose for all participating Teams.

No real surprises in this Tourney. Thought the Preisch vs Weiler match at 184 might be a bit more competitive. Good to see Karam, Schuyler, Wolf, & Preisch at weight & wrestling again. Looking forward to seeing a “more complete” Lehigh lineup at South Beach.

Agree about Geer being done at 184 with that weigh-in. Jo would still be several weeks away (late January) from competing at 165. This all makes me believe that "the plan" for Smith & Smith is 174 & 184.
