maybe the other wrestlers at the top of 57 are also elite wrestlers and that's why they have mixed results against each other

GockeS reacted to MedicineMan in THE WRESTLER WHO WOULDN'T BE
In 1966, a high school sophomore named Siddidi Finch, an adopted Iranian-born foster child from Oak Park, Illinois, whose parents died in a plane crash near Nepal, entered the Tbilisi tournament in Georgia and won... defeating 5-time world champ Ali Aliyev.  He was denied the championship' however, when it was discovered he did not meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years.

He never wrestled in high school folk style matches and only pursued freestyle. The majority of his training during his teen years occurred in Japan, where he was coached by the father of Yojiro Uetake Obata, and accompanied the elder Uetake on many trips to Tibet to learn yogic mastery of mind-body under the great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa.  The elder Uetake when asked about the wrestling skills of the teenage Finch, stated:  "Siddidi has taught my son, Yojiro, many skills."

He did however, after graduating high school, walk on at Portland State university, where he twice defeated Rick Sanders in wrestle offs, but was denied a starting spot in the line up because of "academic performance"... The truth is, Finch rarely attended classes, other than to take exams, and in fact his GPA was a 4.0, but the University staff frowned on his absences from the classroom.

After the debacle at Portland State, Finch decided not to pursue a wrestling career, instead choosing to play the French horn or golf or something.  What if.... Imagine how great he would have been.  Perhaps better than Cael...

Below is the only known photo of Finch, sparring with Yojo, taken by his father:

marmsd said: I don't think anyone says he's a "bad guy" for doing it...just that it leads to an apparent strategy (one growing in popularity, perhaps) that is both somewhat frustrating and boring to watch. I have nothing against any fan who thinks dropping to the leg>move up>drop and/or pinch/hook legs and/or constantly just run the bottom guy out>rinse>repeat  is cutting edge supa-skill stuff...have at it.  I'd bet you'll re-watch this year's event with sheer delight. But apparently it wasn't such a fan who started this particular discussion.
It seems that the guy who is adept at top is being vilified for his ability to control his opponent.  "bad guy" was a euphemism/expression not to be taken literally. My point was that it's not the top guys responsibility to make the bottom man look skilled. Being on bottom is an opportunity to score and limit RT, unless, of course, you aren't very good there...then you just help the top guy do his job...It's the bottom man's responsibility to limit the control the top man has over him. When you can exhibit dominance, mastery, and control, you deserve to be rewarded, whether from neutral, top, or bottom.  When you can't do that you do not deserve a reward.
RT is the reward for dominating on top, whether you turn him or not..it's still domination/control/mastery. Escaping or reversing is bottom's reward and it limits top's RT. That's domination/control/mastery from bottom.
"I have nothing against any fan who thinks dropping to the leg>move up>drop and/or pinch/hook legs and/or constantly just run the bottom guy out>rinse>repeat  is cutting edge supa-skill stuff...have at it."  If it isn't "supa-skill stuff" then how come the bottom man can't get out? Actually, when you get on top of some wrestlers, you're damn lucky to get the RT let alone turn him.  So that's worth something and if it is bothersome, he should learn to get out efficiently and effectively.  Problem solved.
Regarding your remark about this year's event...first of all, I won't "re-watch" it....it was just ok.  don't care for the hand touch TD's, the 5 count below, the time wasting bricks,  mat returns (or lack thereof) or most of the top/bottom wrestling in general...with a few exceptions. Regarding your last sentence.  Not exactly sure what your point was there or to whom it was aimed but perhaps you can add clarity to that for me.  Respectfully,  Patrick Milkovich

I'm not saying he wasn't guilty. What I'm saying is that Brooks dove for the OOB twice in the same sequence while Hidlay had his ankle and after Hidlay drug him back in. Blatant disregard of the avoiding wrestling definition by the ref.
What the refs didn't call prior ( during which I may have been distracted b.s.ing with my buddy) is another subject,,,,but yeah, if he worked the edge and avoided contact then he should have been dinged.
p.s. I'm still ticked at Zach Rey for his stall-a-thon in the finals. More ticked at the refs...but the rules didn't address playing the edge at the time.

The three worst officiating efforts imo
    1. The Heil loss to Oklahoma State. Completely unfathomable and worst outcome of the whole tourney.
    2. The stall calls on RBY vs Fix. First while he's working on top, second while he is literally shooting, third after Fix shoves him out of the circle. The official gave Fix exactly what he needed to get the matchj into OT. Thank God the right guy won despite the officiating.
    3. The whole of the Warner - Reenan debacle.

I would imagine the answer is no, nobody here on the message board knows what was said with Brands or why he was in the specific tone at that specific time.

But if I may offer a different, albeit less dramatic theory, it could have been there was an immense amount of emotion having just one his third title, the team title he coveted so much, while also being in a great deal of pain because he was wrestling through some pretty tough adversity to obtain those coveted titles, just thirty seconds ago.

The letter from Dad to his son.  Not reminiscent of PD3.   Birthday Letter to AJ Junior: Happy 18th Birthday son. You are my oldest son and I am super proud of you. You have been a terrific example for your younger brothers and sister. You have accomplished a lot in your brief time in this world. You are close with God and your family. You study the bible and pray. You have high grades. You are the #1 P4P wrestler in the country. Being the #1 P4P wrestler in the country is really something to be proud of. Please don’t ever forget what got you there. Hard work, faith in God, faith in yourself, your family support system and not being afraid of failure.   It is a lot to handle for a young man. People know you where ever you go. People look up to you. Luke 12:48 says, “To Whom Much is Given, Much Will Be Required.” Satan uses vanity to pull us away from God. Don’t ever forget that without God, none of your success would be possible. He blessed you with parents who love you and have sacrificed more than you can understand (until you have a wife and kids of your own) to accomplish what you have. Your mom and sisters have sacrificed time away from me as I spent countless hours training you and your brothers and travelled the country getting you the best competition. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” God, Family/Friends & Wrestling. Keep your priorities in that order. If they get out of order, your life will get out of order as well. Don’t let others around you get you to question you or your upbringing. God’s laws don’t change with the times… and neither should the way we live our life. Since you were a teenager, you were teased for not having a cell phone until you were 17. Or about not having video games in our house…. Or about not having Cable Television. But all those things are part of what made you who you are today. Instead of playing video games and watching the garbage on today’s TV, you watched Christian movies, listened to the real news (not that stuff on TV), you studied wrestling, studied the Bible, worked out, practiced wrestling, spent time with your family (playing board games, becoming proficient in Chess and shooting pool) and played outside.   Remember this is Satan’s world. If you are fitting in too much, then you are probably doing something wrong. 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” I have told you and your brothers this since you were young… You do not just represent you. You represent the Ferrari family. You represent Christians. You represent USA Wrestling. You represent Allen, Texas. You represent Italian-Americans. There are not many Italian-Americans in Texas… if you act foolish, people here will assume that is how most Italians act. You have a lot of responsibility. You are a young man, no longer a boy. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” God’s laws are real. Our actions have consequences. It is easy for you to become prideful and think you are better than others because of what you have accomplished. You are no better than anyone else. In fact, you are less than others if you do not treat others as you would like to be treated. If you get too cocky or arrogant, there will be consequences… in this life or the next.   Finally, I love you unconditionally. I will be there to support you in all your future successes. More importantly, you can always count on me to be there for any setbacks to help you get back on the right path in wrestling and life.   Love Dad
