  1. I think that answer would depend on your own strengths and weaknesses (assuming you will be the head coach). Some HS programs hire assistant coaches to handle administrative work/compliance and others to work out and teach technique. Ideally you would fine someone that can help complement you. You can do some research and learn best practices form other top programs. Both of the schools below have assistants and volunteer assistants (along with strong middle school and elementary feeder programs/summer camps). Some families with strong ties tend to come back and help coach their siblings and next generation. You can try and recruit a father or older sibling of a current wrestler to assist. Hope that makes sense. Crown Point (IN) https://www.cps.k12.in.us/Page/9589 South Plainfield (NJ) https://sphswrestling.wixsite.com/sphs-wrestling
  2. Two minor upsets at 133 and 149 LBS, true freshman Giraldo over DelVecchio in OT and Hunt WBF over Dippery. Anyone know why Corey Stasenko (South Plainfield, NJ) is off the RU roster? Always enjoyed watching him compete in HS & college (seems like at 3-4 different weight classes for sake of the team). Rutgers Wrestle-Offs Weight-by-Weight Results (not in order of events) 125: Freshman Nicholas Ottaviano (Marlboro, N.J.) dec. over redshirt sophomore Sean McCabe (Connetquot, N.Y.), 4-3. 133: Freshman Anthony Giraldo (Guttenberg, N.J.) dec. over sophomore Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield, N.J.), 3-1 (SV2). 141: Redshirt freshman Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) tech fall over redshirt sophomore Jalen Ramos(Bayville, N.J.), 19-4. 149: Redshirt sophomore Tyler Hunt (South Plainfield, N.J.) wins by fall over sophomore Tyson Dippery(Harrisburg, Pa.) (6:55). 149: Junior Ken Theobold (Toms River, N.J.) dec. over freshman John Van Brill (Mullica Hill, N.J.), 2-0. 157: Van Brill dec. over freshman Vincent Corsaro (Indianapolis, Ind.), 4-2 (SV). 165: Redshirt freshman Nicholas Gravina (Allendale, N.J.) dec. over redshirt junior Ethan Orr (Branchville, N.J.), 5-4. 174: Redshirt sophomore Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) tech fall over freshman Lucky Shaut (Columbus, Ohio), 17-2. 184: Redshirt sophomore Anthony Pafumi (Westfield, N.J.) major dec. over redshirt freshman Taylor Jackson (Lady Lake, Fla.), 10-1. 285: Redshirt junior Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) major dec. over freshman Wesley Bernard (Indianapolis, Ind.), 10-1.
  3. The Purdue Crew Team has had a "rent a rower" fundraiser for a number of years that I think would be great for wrestling. You can rent a rower to help with errands for $65 up to five hours/day on five different Saturdays in the fall. College towns are becoming more and more of a popular place for retirees so there is always a need for manual labor from landscaping, moving furniture, running errands, tutoring children, etc. It would help generate fan support (from non wrestlers), put in some sweat equity from your team and generate the finances that you need. I'm sure you can take the idea and apply it to State College, PA for the club wrestling team. 100 members participate x $65 x 5 Saturdays = $32,500 Sample Flyer https://web.ics.purdue.edu/~pucrew/Website/Media/RARFlyer10.pdf From October 2002 http://www.purdueexponent.org/features/article_48a4fc9d-11b3-5131-ac15-160dd30662d5.html
  4. The Lehigh wrestler in reference in the above post is Matt Anderson of South Plainfield, NJ. http://lehighsports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2385 From the 2004 EIWA Championships, Matt Anderson of Lehigh takes on #1 Nationally ranked and heir apparent to the 149lb National title, Jesse Jantzen of Harvard.
  5. I think a lot of credit should go to the coaching staff including Ben Wissel (2x All-American from Purdue): http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml? ... =205569834 http://www.flowrestling.org/video/66057 ... y8gI_ldXgM

  8. I would agree with MadMardigain's comments regarding Cashe Quiroga. Should be a great weekend of wrestling at the Northeast Duals in Troy, NY and some early season tests for him (in order of the schedule): #18 Jordan Thome (Army) Senior, 7-3 #13 Geoff Alexander (Maryland) Sophomore, 4-1 #19 Garrett Frey (Princeton) Senior, 1-2 #16 Jamie Franco (Hofstra) Junior, 1-1 *Rankings courtesy of AWN* Depending on the team scores, I'm not sure that you will see him for all four duals on Saturday but I would expect him for the majority of the match ups. Interested to see how Frey looks up a weight class from 125 and after working out with Joe Dubuque every day in the room.
  9. As a proud supporter of Purdue Wrestling, the Purdue Alumni Club of New Jersey presents this series about the family behind this student athlete from Anderson, IN. This chapter highlights one of the best rivalries in the state of Indiana in the past decade as Eppert competed against Brandon Wright (both finished as 2x Indiana State Champions) a total of 12 times in high school during a three year time frame.
  10. Tommy Churchard of Purdue Wrestling - Time to Redefine the Grind Highlight Video. Senior at Purdue University studying Sales Management.
