  1. One of my cronies? LOL, I don't think scribe and I have had any form of communication whatsoever. I have no issue with someone posting Stieber would win the Hodge or saying Taylor would. I honestly think Taylor will. I simply think Taylor wins EVERY Fantasy matchup on here while wrestlers who I actually think are better like Dake and Howe get considerably less respect than they deserve. I will start a post that asks ALL to be COMPLETELY honest in who they think is better and who they would pick if Taylor wrestled Dake or Howe. Also, I am sorry if you feel like I lumped you into a category. You seem to be the most reasonable PSU fan on here.
  2. You went off on an entire fanbase. Where are the other posts that made you mad? Sorry, that was the post that broke the proverbial Camel's back! I really don't feel like going through post after post over the last year to find, MANY, man-love posts for Taylor. We BOTH know they are here. If I get the interest to do so I might, but you know there have been many posts like the one above.
  3. Are you sure I am exaggerating the Majority's stance? Are you sure your outlook is not in the Minority? Obviously, I cannot speak for all the PSU fans who do not post on here, and my post IS NOT for them. This post is for those who give this site more than a glancing interest. My posts are mainly to spark up a good conversation on the sport I am very passionate. I may stir the pot but I am truly interested in the responses I get.
  4. Between the All Star Classic, regulation matches and Freestyle Dake is 5-0. I really wouldn't have an issue with people picking Taylor to win, my isssue is the FIRST part I stated in that people still disregard the 5-0 mark and would call Taylor the FAVORITE!
  5. Sounds like you are really upset at Penn State fans. Can you link the posts that led you to make this thread? They must have been pretty bad for you to make this thread. Re: Logan Steiber will win the Hodge this year Postby PRyan2012 » Mon Dec 16, 2013 6:53 am Taylor would own Howe. Own him! He moved up to avoid Taylor. Howe is not a big 165. I would want to go out with a title also. I don't fault Howe for that. David Taylor unless he somehow losses wins the Hodge again. No one is even close. Actually the closest guy is probably at 157 in St John. PRyan2012 Silver Member Silver Member Posts: 1124 Joined: Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:38 am
  6. I agree, he seems like a great guy and his passion for the sport is easy to admire. If it weren't for the Bubba Jenkins fiasco, which is in NO way Taylor's fault, I probably would be a fan. Sanderson ruined Taylor for me.
  7. Who is your pick to upset Taylor? I don't have one. Barring an injury or illness, I have him tied with Ruth as the lock of the tournament. This post wasn't to point out he will lose at NCAA's it is to point out the level of craziness and the near worship-like pattern that has formed on here that nearly mirrors that of Metcalf. Even Taylor's losses are treated on here in nearly the same way. His losses were flukes or ignored and he is automatically the favorite in a rematch and is going to wreck someone he has lost to before. I honestly believe a ton of people on here STILL believe Taylor is better than Dake and would pick Taylor to win again.
  8. Considering he is the favorite against everyone he has lost to, why should he even wrestle when he hasn't lost to anyone currently in his weight class? I think he should just weigh in each day collect a forfeit and receive the Hodge, outstanding wrestler and the new NCAA version of the Hodge. Intermat will name him wrestler of the year and he can go on to beat Howe, Dake and Burroughs to win the World team trials prior to winning the World Championships. Although, I am not sure he should have to wrestle these matches either. In all honesty, I now see why there was so much angst back when Metcalf was around. Being from Michigan I always cheered for Metcalf and had the tinted glasses when Metcalf was painted in a God-like fashion. All the non stop Taylor love has made me see the light. Taylor is amazing, but in the end will at most be ONLY a 2x champ. That is the same as Metcalf. I ask all of you crazed Taylor fans to remember back to what side you were on during all the Metcalf craziness and try not to be hypocritical. If you couldn't stand the Metcalf praise try to realize that the Taylor praise has the same effect.
  9. Please tell me you are joking!? Howe is HUGE at 174. People on here have an AMAZINGLY short memory. Howe was a dominant undefeated champ at 165 as a true sophomore. Was undefeated before losing an incredibly active match against Burroughs 10-7( The same Burroughs to go on to win a World Championship THAT year)then TORE his hamstring and came back and took 3rd with an injury that I don't think ANYONE else comes back from, LET ALONE takes 3rd. Oh, and by the way, he WRECKED Taylor at the Olympic Trials. You really think Howe, a "not big" 165 wanted to go up a weight to wrestle a HUGE 174 defending champ in Perry to avoid Taylor? The more I think about this you have to be joking............
  10. I don't think anyone was calling the field of 165 a bunch of nobodys. It is just GLARINGLY obvious that the top 6 at 174 are SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than the top 6 at 165. You have 2 NCAA champs in Howe and Perry. Brown is a returning finalist. Kokesh is the returning 3rd place finisher. Storley is a 2xaa and is currently a True Junior. Returning, and currently undefeated, AA Evans has shown he is right there with anyone listed above. If you want to you can even throw in returning AA Cody Walters to show depth. Every Taylor fan gets offended when his weight's depth gets pointed out. It is not his fault. Although, you could say some have avoided 165 because of him. Caldwell is the only elite wrestler in his weight class and 174 has 6 guys comparable to Caldwell. Taylor will destroy everyone, quite possibly including Caldwell, but that does not change the fact 174 is much deeper. I think like you pointed out that 174 is stronger because the competition moved up and away from Taylor to improve their chances at a title. Taylor pretty well manhandled Evans and Kokesh, 2 of the top 6 wrestlers you are talking about at 174. I wasn't pointing out that 174 is stronger because ANYONE left to get away from Taylor. I said that 165 MAY be weaker because people moved out of 165(possibly because of Taylor in a case or 2). My point wasn't whether Taylor could beat the quality at 174. My point was 174 has considerably MORE quality than 165. Also, Kokesh and Evans are MUCH better at 174 not being sucked out pale looking ghosts. I don't think either could hold 165 with Taylor there or not. However, in the end the numbers don't lie. Just as comparing Metcalf's 2008 competition vs. Gavin's the depth of the 2 weight classes are significantly different. This doesn't make Taylor ANY less dominant. It simply means that an undefeated 174 champ this year would have to get EXTRA consideration by winning a loaded weight class with 2 returning champs and a returning finalist!
  11. And Howe destroyed Taylor in the Olympic Trials the year before. Do not draw conclusions from the last Taylor/Howe match. Howe tried a Head pinch that isn't legal in Folkstyle and when Taylor popped his head out he had a trapped arm gutwrench locked up rolled 3 times and the match was over. The results of that match lead everyone to believe it was a massacre. Tech falls in Freestyle are NOT anywhere like Folkstyle. Folk techs are domination while Freestyle techs are often a result of one move, as it was in this case. With them both at 2 different weights speculation will run rampant but I would NOT act like Taylor would run away against Howe.
  12. can't help but chuckle at this....you do know that one of those nobodys at 165 knocked off Howe in his last NCAA appearance, right? I don't think anyone was calling the field of 165 as nobodys. It is just GLARINGLY obvious that the top 6 at 174 is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than the top 6 at 165. 14. 174 Mike Evans Iowa 11-0 all bonus pt wins. His competition gets A TON harder very soon, but as of now, he is undefeated.
  15. I am very lucky I am not a big gambler because I would have bet it ALL on Stieber. Congrats to Retherford, I knew he was going to be special but this win is UNREAL!
  16. There really isn't much I can add to what has already been posted. Other than McClure they are brutal to watch. Watts has moments but could easily not qualify. Rizqallah is a hard worker, with a lot of funk, but he is no lock to qualify either. I have a hard time even giving MSU credit for McClure. He is a physical specimen and overpowers most of the 285's he matches up with. Put him at Minnesota and I would be interested to see if Nelson would even be the starter. I wouldn't bet on him actually being better than Nelson but putting him at a program like Minnesota that has a history of developing Champion 285's I would put him right at the top. I also, find it very telling that if you compare the team schedule progression(or regression) you will see that Minkel has scheduled about the weakest schedule a B1G would see. As long as he is there MSU is a cellar dweller.
  17. I am sorry , I confused Reader with Sponseller, the match I remember was the Midlands finals where Perry beat Reader 8-0. Reader was a Freshman(albeit not a True freshman like Sponseller was) and I remember wanting to see how he matched up with the best as I remember he had only 1 loss going into Midlands losing a close one to Moza Fay. I do, remember the Sponseller-Tannenbaum match but juxtaposed Reader with Sponseller.
  18. He will slow Stieber down on his feet with his Russian Tie and he won't roll over for Stieber like the rest of the competition. I have to admit this is starting to remind me a lot of Sponseller's true freshman year and the discussion prior to his match-up with Mark Perry. As true freshman both Retherford and Sponseller had looked great but hadn't wrestled anyone ranked near the top. When Sponseller finally wrestler Perry, Perry darn near ripped his arm off. The worse thing is the gap between Stieber and Retherford may be even more so than it was between Sponseller and Perry. After watching Retherford vs. Bright, I cannot see how Retherford will keep the match even remotely close. As a true freshman Retherford is outstanding. As a two-time NCAA champ and currently undefeated 141 lbr Stieber is not only a step above he is probably 3 or 4 steps above. I like Retherford and see him as a 4x AA but he will be lucky to get out of the match with Stieber without being pinned. The same could be said about nearly every 141lbr with the exception of Port, Dardanes and Carter(Khishignyam if he regains eligibility) and even this small group would have their hands full keeping it close. Stieber is THAT good!
  19. Do not worry, I will NOT waver. I will be your beacon lighting your way to reality. Whenever you are lead astray I will be here to bring you back to Earth. My team is lost in Limbo, possibly never to return. I will do my best to not let you go so far in the opposite direction that you become just as lost.
  20. Someone has to keep you guys grounded in reality. If we stayed quiet this site would have been taken over. The name of this forum would become THE PSU. The PSU would become a place of worship similar to a church and Cael Sanderson would be your God. All wrestlers at PSU automatically will be transformed into Angels and when they lose they will be described as Angels of Mercy(letting the little guy win one so he does not lose heart). Acolytes would be running around on the site chanting his(Cael's)praises and crusading to either change over any non conforming poster or having him eliminated from this site. It would inevitably result in anarchy and we just can't have that kind of thing. Trust me our policing you is necessary and the best thing for all involved!
  21. If a student/athlete never enrolled in college they are considered a "TRUE FRESHMEN" What would you consider someone that joined the military right out of high school and ten years later decided to attend college? I think you are abusing that analogy when comparing it to Ivy league enrollment. They used the "Greyshirt" avenue which is the equivalent to a Redshirt. THey deferred enrollment a year, wrestled with the wrestling "Club" affiliated with Cornell and normally they attend a sister college to get some prep courses in prior to the next year. If you want to call them "True" freshman feel free, but it is a HUGE stretch to do so.......
  22. I hate to say it,but.....I am starting to agree. I have, for quite a while now, ONLY followed the Intermat Rankings. When JB was there they were the only credible ranking source and even after JB left they seemed to be the best. Each year JB has been gone they seem to get worse. I am not sure about them anymore.
  23. Schopp is very Simmons-like both in build and style of wrestling. You needed/need to beat them on their feet, but you have to do it with clean, crisp takedowns as they would/will funk you to death if you are sloppy or slow. Avoid bottom if at all possible as they had/have 3x the leverage as any other wrestler at the weight and will work moves you don't see coming. Their neutral wrestling was/is the only thing that held/will(most likely) hold them from being a NCAA champ.
  24. My intent for this thread was not to bash the coaches but to show my distress at where this program is at and where it is heading. This program appears lost at EVERY level that is necessary for it to be competitive. It is even more frustrating because I don't know what to do. I do not have the inside ties that I once had. The few that I talk to that did, have grown up and away and have lost interest. Over the last 10 years my passion for the sport has been reinvigorated and I would love to see MY Green and White represent itself in sports other than Basketball and more recently Football. I ultimately do blame the Athletic Department for not caring but I don't want to go there as it is very similar even at the successful D1 schools. Even at Iowa the focus is on Football first. They just have such a marketable product there that it benefits the Athletic Department. PSU is at the center of the most successful High School State in the Nation. Toss in Sanderson and they are relevant. But, believe you me, regardless of the recent scandal, PSU's main focus is on their Football program. Instead of attacking the Athletic Department we have to find a way to reignite their interest. A donor, former wrestler and or alum somehow needs to get the ear of the AD and find a way to make wrestling relevant again. Push the benefits of a new facility, a RTC(which is hard to do with the fate of Olympic wrestling still in the balance) and a Pro-Active coaching staff. I am frustrated and concerned that nothing will be done until it is too late.........
