MSU158 got a reaction from Cementmixer103 in 2005 NCAA Champions
He actually controlled Churella rather well in the semis that year.  Churella was the 2 seed and Hendricks the 3.  In fact, Hendricks had a really strong tournament pretty much dominating into the semis and then 2 controlling wins over Churella and Perry.
The bigger part of that bracket was a freshman Perry knocking off Letter 3-0.  Letters was undefeated and was dominant during the season similar to a Retherford season.  Perry did a great job in the 1st of slowing Letters down.  He got to his leg multiple times and used up a ton of time holding on.  But, I think the 2nd period was the kill shot.  Letters had no answer for Perry's ride. After about 30 seconds of a hard double leg ride, Letters sat back into a Perry's crab ride right off the restart and Perry was able to hold him long enough with a half to get a 5 count.  After that, Letters was fully out of it mentally.  It may have been the most masterful match I have seen Perry wrestle!

03 probably has the best DI accomplishments for Michigan High School wrestlers across the divisions.
    NCAA Champs:
1.)Reader(7,4,R12,1) took 3rd at 112 as a freshman.  Steintrager won that bracket and was the 8th seed wrestling for CMU as a senior(missed 2 seasons).
2.)Donahoe(R12,1,3,2) took 2nd at 119 as a freshman.  Shutich beat him 7-6.  Shutich was a 2 year starter for Michigan.
    3.)Metcalf(DNQ,1,2,1) took 1st as a sophomore.
    NCAA Finalists:
    1.)Josh Churella(8,R12,2,4)took 1st at 135 as a senior.
    2.)Roger Kish(R12,2,3,R12) took 1st at 189 as a senior.
    3.)Wynn Michalak(8,8,R12,2) took 1st at 189 as a senior.
    NCAA AA's:
    1.)Bubba Gritter(DNQ,DNQ,5,7) took 1st at 275 as a senior.
    2.)Brandon Sinnot(DNQ,0-2,7,5)   took 1st at 160 as a senior.
3.)Christian Sinnot(DNQ,1-2,R12,4)   took 2nd at 171 as a senior losing to Tim Breyer(2x Finalist).  Breyer wrestled for EMU.

    Look:
1.) Caldwell STARTED his celebration and flip(just because he isn't in the air before the whistle doesn't mean the flip doesn't start before it) BEFORE the clock ran out.
2.) Metcalf STARTED chasing him around the mat BEFORE the clock ran out.
3.) By the time Caldwell is in the air, Metcalf has almost completely stopped and barely touches him. He OBVIOUSLY pulls up.  What he did was the equivalent of the minor shoulder bump when walking past someone walking towards you.
4.) If Metcalf was so bad, he would have kept his complete momentum, by the time Caldwell is mid-air, he ends up flying OFF the platform.

Should Metcalf have COMPLETELY pulled off?  Sure.  But, what he did is NOWHERE NEAR what some of you paint it to be......................

At 79kg, I would bet on Dake... I still think he is the better wrestler. If there’s no weigh in, I don’t think Dake is that much better that he can give up that kind of weight to an elite wrestler like Taylor and still win.

I think a LOT of that had to do with size.  If they still had 118, even with the new weigh-ins, I think Sanders would have been very dominant there.

It's truly systemic and the percentage in wrestling almost assuredly is no different than it is EVERYWHERE.  Racial prejudices are so much more cultural than simple viewpoints of "color".  Hell, I would bet that nearly 100% of white people have used the n word to describe a black person.
It isn't as simple as equality.  It is more exclusively based on inclusion.  As long as the societal differences are so monumental, hatred will remain on BOTH sides.  Hatred and fear are often fueled by lack of understanding.  Detroit is the most racially segregated city in the U.S.  As a result, there is a GIANT gap between white and black.  Those living in the suburbs have clearly defined the borders of Detroit since I was a kid and so did those living in Detroit.  Whites didn't go south of "8 Mile Rd." and blacks didn't come north.
Protests, marches and guilt are NOT going to make any lasting headway.  Daily life integration is the ONLY true way to break down the walls on both sides.  You need to be living next to each other.  Going to school together.  Playing together. Working together.  Sharing similar interests.  I simply don't see any other way........

I disagree that constant protests, marches and guilt are going to improve the current state of racism.  It especially helped  initiate change in the 60's because racism was brutally bad back then.  Now, it is all too easy to keep the status quo as soon as the rage dies down.  I am thinking about long term solutions.
Also, because Minnesota is planning a possible "de-funding" of police does NOT mean these protests and riots are IN ANY WAY successful.  Immediate knee-jerk reactions can cause more harm than good.
Simply put, protests and guilt may cause people to INITIATE the change.  But constant protesting isn't going to MAKE change.  Real change will only come from education and understanding.  Too many protests and guilt/blaming will likely devolve into a negativity that defeats the point.

I think you and MSU are arguing two parallel points of improvement.  He is advocating ways to help improve the longer term change in an individuals way of thinking/viewing the matter,  where you are pointing out the pathway that have and can  bring about improved legal/civil rights changes.   Changing the laws and changing someones thinking are both important, but are not always achieved at the same time and through the same methods.

I completely get what you are saying.  You not only have to "un-teach" all the hatred, fear and understanding, you have to also create an environment that minimizes the chances to form uneducated opinions.  Without significant integration, the lack of exposure is systemic to the problem.  Many racist opinions are based on perceived stereo types instead of a significant number of actual, diverse experiences.

This is a testament to "relativity".
Is this a question based on "AA's that were only good at neutral" compared ONLY to other AA's or compared to the field at their weight during that season?  Or just AA's, period?
Simply put, even guys like Micah Jordan were more than good on bottom, except against the top competition and mainly had issues with guys that pretty much decimated EVERYONE from the top position.  Hell, Micah even turned guys from top with 7 falls his senior year and even tilta-whirled a very solid Jared Prince like he was a carousel.
As good as the neutral wrestling in DI is, what REALLY separates it from High School, let alone any of the "lower" College divisions, is mat wrestling.  What a spectator sees as a weakness, hence this thread, is actually more of a testament to how good the average DI guy is and how freaky good a guy like Retherford was.

Everyone?  Other than Lizak, whom he "gassed from bottom", who else rode him?  Not Suriano, not Dance, not Piccininni.  The only real issue was the brainfart in not picking bottom against Cruz, which probably helps make some misremember Gilman being ridden more often.........

I've seen this as a projected lineup and think it's probably their best bet. I think there's some questions still about where Micic and Myles Amine go, but I'd kind of be surprised if this wasn't it.
    125 - Medley / McHenry
    133 - Micic
    141 - Silva
    149 - Storr
    157 - Lewan
    165 - C. Amine
    174 - Massa
    184 - M. Amine
    197 - Embree / Davison
    Hwt - Parris
