MSU158 got a reaction from ConnorsDad in With OkState having a sort of "off" year, what are the chances we see a lineup like this next season?
Obviously, this is all conjecture.  I was simply looking for a scenario that makes OkState a true contender.  A TON of that would hinge on super young guys being elite right off the bat.   Of them all, I think Plott has the most potential to be that guy.  If he can do it at 174, that definitely give OkState the chance to make their ideal lineup!

Glass half full vs. glass half empty.  With the way social media controls this planet, as soon as someone is accused of something, they ARE guilty in the court of public opinion.  If something can be perceived as nefarious, many believe it is so.
My hat is off to you for your altruistic approach.  I would fall more in the middle on that approach.  I won't directly consider you a habitual criminal, but I definitely haven't ruled it out and will approach all correspondence with that possibility in mind!  ;)

Other than actually watching matches my favorite thing is people throwing out possibilities for lineups or results in duals so I enjoyed it. If it wasn't for that once the season was over we'd have nothing to do so I like the conjecture!

I have to disagree.  I don't think EITHER would have been offered anything to come  Iowa.  Would they have been turned down? Absolutely not.  But, Brands has been VERY vocal about scholarship loyalty.  Once committed to Cass, it is his to lose.  This goes all the way back to Tsirtsis when Brands first came back to Iowa.  He ended up losing Blanton to Illinois because he couldn't allocate the money because Tsirtsis was going to redshirt and tie up funds for an extra year.
Also, there was a bit of rumored bad blood with Gable after his brother left Iowa to go back to Minnesota.  I don't see any way that scenario was going to happen.  As far as Kerk goes, the fact that Iowa was never in on him IN ANY WAY over the course of 4 different schools is pretty telling that they were committed to Cass.
Finally, I am not convinced that Kerk is going to be that much better than Cass in Folk anyway.  I would assume the Iowa coaches feel the same.  As such, I don't see them tying up the money to get him to Iowa.  Now, if he came to Iowa and proved his worth on the mat, the money would definitely follow!

Well, if he gets reversed and gives up backs, his seeding can take a hit.  With the dual not in question, I think going for the major was not necessary.

MSU158 got a reaction from BLT in Did Ohio St lose opportunities for future by not using redshirt more?
I love what Ryan has done at tOSU, but this statement necessitates pointing out the difference between someone's "seems like" and the actual reality.  Still credit is due, since they have taken 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd and 2nd the past 5 years which is super impressive considering what PSU has done.
    2007:  10th
    2008:  2nd
    2009:  2nd
    2010:  8th
    2011:  29th
    2012:  5th
    2013:  6th
    2014:  6th
    2015:  1st
    2016:  3rd
    2017:  2nd
    2018:  2nd
    2019: 2nd

Actually have things like that memorized.  Sorry, if any of that came of as negative.  I am pro Ryan all the way and he has done an amazing job at tOSU.  I just have spent quite a bit of time pointing out the actual numbers for the top 5 or so teams over basically the exact time frame you mentioned.  Iowa is the ONLY team that has finished in the top 5 every season since then(not true they took 8th Brands 1st season-2007) and even PSU, with 8 championships, does not have a better average finish over that timeframe.
    PSU:  11,3,17,9,1,1,1,1,6,1,1,1,1=54/13=4.15
    Iowa:  8,1,1,1,3,3,4,4,2,5, 4,3,4=43/13=3.31

MSU158 got a reaction from Lurker in Lee v Pletcher poll
The result almost exclusively comes down to stamina.  This matchup is much like McKenna vs Lee was.  However, I think Lee is better than he was then, so it is even harder for Pletcher to get the lead he MUST HAVE to weather the 3rd period.
Pletcher has the necessary short offense and counters to score on Lee and can escape rather easily, when he isn't gassed.  With that in mind, his best chance is to beat him at NCAA's. He MUST peak his conditioning for that tournament and be at max capacity with solid rest for Saturday Night.
Another thing I think will be paramount to his success is 2nd period choice.  Choose down in the 2nd and get the quick escape.  Essentially he would need to get to the 3rd period with something like a 5-2 lead with 2 takedowns, an escape and NO stall calls.  That way he has options on how to conserve energy(strategically stall) in the 3rd.
If he doesn't go into the 3rd period with the lead, I just don't see him winning.

MSU158 got a reaction from TBar1977 in Lee will pin Pletcher
A 4 or 5 minute match, I would slightly favor Pletcher. When conditioning isn’t a factor, Pletcher looks a tad bit better. However, conditioning is actually a HUGE factor and the last 2.5 minutes favor Lee considerably.
Lee’s gas tank advantage is as much as I have seen since Metcalf, maybe even more. His attack rate actually goes up in the 3rd and he has become a hammer on top so if he has to finish the match on top he can and will.

Warner actually took 7th last season.  Not meaning to nitpick, but that is substantially different than 4th.  In fact, it is a minimum of 6 points difference!

Yeah, but there was NO WAY to know he would jump levels this season like he has REGARDLESS of that pace.  Nick Lee is simply MUCH better than he was the past 2 seasons and I don't think it is even close.  His improvement this season may be the biggest jump a PSU guy has made under Sanderson in just 1 season.  Retherford made a similar jump, but that was after a redshirt season.

MSU158 got a reaction from Mr. Poopy butthole in RBY should have been DQ'd
Ben is usually pretty good in his descriptions.  However, in this case he VERY lazily goes through what he THINKS happened, even admitting he didn't really know what happened the 1st time.  Simply put, his description is NOT what happened.
In his description he grabs the foot near the heel and simply pulls the foot out WITHOUT turning it.  As such, if THAT was what was done, he would be correct.  However, RBY grabs the foot closer to the toes and turns the foot outward to the point that the arch is almost flat on the ground from heel to toe.  After that, he transitions even further to the toe and yanks again.
So, the turning of the foot DOES lock out the knee and the 2nd yank pops it.  Now, again, I am not sure that even this process is illegal or falls into the "twisting knee lock" as indicated in the rulebook.  But, it definitely has enough to make it suspect.
With that said, I DO NOT think, nor have I ever mentioned, that RBY should have been DQ'd.  My whole area of contention has solely been that the move ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY caused significant trauma to DeSanto's knee PRIOR to the cradle, causing DeSanto to stop wrestling and cry out DUE TO the injury.  After that, the INJURY seriously effected his wrestling and gauging the results off that is FOLLY.
Dismissing the injury as being mental due to his getting "dominated" is laughable considering the injury happened prior to ANY domination WHATSOEVER..........

See my post above, between hipaa and Brands overly cryptic approach to injuries, you already KNOW you almost certainly will not get a definitive answer.  As such, it comes down to common sense.  Sadly, common sense isn't very common on this board.........
