  1. This isnt some hypothetical monster mini tournament scenario. This is a typical college wrestling season, in a typical situation. Taylor is the better wrestler to have on your team for team scoring purposes, and you have no data to support otherwise. You want to pick Dake to win a big match, I dont really care. Doesnt change the fact that over the course of the season, and 2 of the 3 NCAA tournaments they wrestled in together, Taylor has outscored Dake. I will take Taylor on my team.

All of that and more. Taylor has influenced other wrestlers at Penn State to attempt to score in bunches like he does, so others have become higher bonus point scorers because of his influence. It is EASY to spot in how the style of the other wrestlers has changed. Matt Brown is a great example of this. He is now playing the cat and mouse take them down let them back up game. That is the Cael Sanderson-David Taylor influence right there.

Taylor has made everyone around him a better wrestler, which is what everyone around him says when asked. No wonder the young guns around here want to be like Taylor.

  2. Well Taylor has made the finals in every tournament he has ever wrestled in college, and usually bonusing his way through in the process. Even losing to Dake in the finals last year, Im pretty sure he outscored him for the tournament. Taylor will get you bonus, while Dake will win by dec to some turd half the people here never heard of until he held Dake to a decision. Ill take Taylor on my team over Dake always and forever.

You have a narrow view of things. You apparently don't understand the value of PR. Those extra 2 or 3 points do not compare to the PR Dake's accomplishments brought to Cornell. What was the biggest news coming out of the tournament last year? I'd suggest Dake beating Taylor for his fourth championship at four weights …. not Taylor getting an extra 2 team points. Sorry man, you need to see the forest, not a few trees.

Taylor is an invaluable recruiter and PR machine for Penn State wrestling. No joke. Young wrestlers around here want to be the next scoring machine, the next David Taylor.

    2011

    Dake 22pts Taylor 19pts

    2012

    Dake 26pts Taylor 29pts

    2013

    Dake 22pts Taylor 24pts

Dake scored 23pts in 2010 so his career total is 93pts. Taylor might end up around 100pts. Not exactly sure where that stands all time, but I think it is top 5 maybe top 3 if it turns out that way.

  4. I agree that Moore's best position to creatively stall is bottom. That's what he did before with Taylor.

As for Iowa fans not pushing for stall calls, I don't think it will matter. They'll have pushed for stalling in all the other weights so hard that stalling will be on the refs mind. He may even things out by dinging Moore.

  5. 165 Taylor md. Moore - 16-7 Iowa (Iowa fans ecstatic if just a major, TF 2x last season)

Agreed. It wasn't pretty last time they met:

    Taylor TF Moore 15-0; 2:37

If Moore comes out to legitimately wrestle then I think Taylor either techs or pins him. If Moore can creatively stall for long periods of time then maybe he only gets majored.

  6. That would be a silly bump for Iowa. That makes Iowa an underdog in two matches and a pick'em at 141 given what we've seen from Zain. With their current lineup they are underdogs at two matches anyway but a heavy favorite w/ possible bonus at 133, and with Clark and Dziewa wrestling natural weights they have better shots at upsets.

    You are correct!

  7. If you want to be a Taylor fanboy that's your prerogative.

If you are going to insult people you should at least be honest and admit to your being an Iowa fanboy.

A two time champ? He's the best of his era exactly the same as Ben Askren was and Jake Varner was. That's a fact by the way. If that's minimalization to you fine. I'm not going to worship you're boy because you say to. I welcome any future attempt to challenge me.

David Taylor will finish with one of the top 3 all time team point scoring totals in NCAA history. That'

s a fact too. Also a great all around guy and great face for the Penn State program. The young guns around here LOVE him.

  8. Maybe Ramos is trying to talk Coach Brands into letting him bump up to 141 for the dual?

He likely still can't believe that in his 1st try Retherford was able to do something he hasn't been able to get done in 4 tries - beat Stieber.

I'd like to see this match-up:

    125 Mega v. Gilman

    133 Gulibon v. Clark

    141 Retherford v. Ramos

me too. I'd love to see Iowa try that line up.

  9. In the post match presser Ryan said Stieber was sick during the week, but I'd take that at face value. Before walking off the mat Ryan said something different, and I have watched the match about four times now and it just looks to me like Zain outwrestled him.

What was the thing that Ryan "said differently" before Stieber walked off the mat that makes you take his later statements at face value?

Ryan said something like this ''when you are in a war its everything you do to prepare for the war that goes into the war. Logan got himself into a war out there and he couldn't respond''

That quote made me believe it was more about his preparation for this specific match than it was his health. After all, if it was his health then Ryan could have just said he was sick, but that isn't what Ryan chose to say. Ryan brought up his preparation.

Add in the fact he just didn't look sick to me, and this is how I came to the impression i did. I realize a guy can be sick and not necessarily look sick, but add in Ryan's comments and my overall impression is that Logan just got beat. I am certain he'll be very well prepared for Zain at Big10's.

  10. Guys, the delay was for "locked hands" and we all just naturally looked at the hands and said "that isn't locked hands." Since it is accurate that a figure 4 is treated as locked hands, could Ryan have actually had them looking at the leg ride?

And fwiw, I don't see Zain's leg getting behind the knee so no illegal figure 4 imo.

That is what I suggested earlier. If it would have been deemed a figure 4 or locked hands, it would have been a technical violation (1 match point) but would have also negated riding time accumulated after the infraction.

Yep. Zain would have needed to convert a td in the 3rd and then hold on to get to Sv.

Here is how another wrestler with a history with Zain defends Zain's leg ride. This wrestler knew he had to defend against Zain getting both legs in and he does a very good job in the second period and then again in the 3rd period after Zain gets a reversal, but Zain eventually gets the second leg in and it is then essentially over as he flattens the opponent out.
