  1. NJWC, Why does PA have more schools that offer wrestling in the first place? Because on balance the interest in wrestling is greater here than anywhere else.
  2. David Taylor joins Cael Sanderson and Ben Askren as multiple time winners of the Hodge Award in the past 20 years.
  3. Yeah, I'd have to agree with this. The majority of big names from PA did not attend this event. Don't v iew it as that big a problem, though. Lots more tournaments in the year.
  4. PA was under represented. Lots of top kids skipped this one.
  5. The amount of energy spent putting down David Taylor over the past few years spent by a handful of Minnesota, Iowa and Cornell fans could fill Noah's Ark.
  6. You nailed it, BAC. I think you'd be proven correct in an analysis like this. Taylor would be #1 or #2 in avg. points per match over his career, and this is what wins meets and tournaments.
  7. If this passes muster, how long before the band and baton twirlers unionize? They are a part of the show, are they not? And what about high school football players? The high school marching band too?
  8. Great article by Christian Pyles. The last paragraph is the best description I have read yet. No, he’s not in the Cael, Dake, Smith conversation, but I’ll put his credentials and team impact with almost anyone else. It was more than just NCAA title accumulation, it’s the impact he had on an entire team, the way he carried himself and the impact he’s had on fans and young wrestlers alike. He’s a star for his style, dominance and personality more than his NCAA finishes. He carried himself with class every step of the way. When he won, he showed a youthful exuberance and renewed excitement every time. When he lost, he carried himself like a man. He’s an example and role model for young wrestlers. The popularity he’s gained he earned through a contagious and captivating style. Who knows what’s next for DT, but I think we know he’s going to continue to excel and excite. http://www.flowrestling.org/article/258 ... zVicIWyp5Z
  9. Based just on who the crowd is trying to topple ... CAEL SANDERSON Tom Brands. JRob, Smith
  10. Haselrig's story is incredible.
  11. Lmao....AVERAGE?! I guess being a 4x finalist and 2x champ is average in our sport. Idiot..... And being the most dominant! Upside down world we live in here, snap.
  12. David Taylor won The NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler Award http://news.theopenmat.com/2014/03/fina ... standings/ :D :D :D
  13. Are we really going to go thru this again? You are not going to "fix" an event that sells out every year with an event that draws flies. The Dapper Dan Charity Exhibition significantly out drew NWCA Duals.

  15. I said this once on this msg. board when we were talking about Johnny Football, and I will say it again now, the day they unionize and turn what are essentially amateur athletics into semi pro sports is the day I'm out. They will drive up both ticket prices and tuition, both of which are already too expensive.
  16. Taylor Tech Howe while in college. Dake won in overtime. Pretty convincing head to head win for Taylor being the superior wrestler. Taylor was also handled by Andrew Howe during his college career. Dake lost to Howe a few years back a few months after winning ncaas at 149. Taylor won ncaas at 165 before he lost to Howe. The Taylor loss to Howe is ancient compared to the Taylor Tech on Howe. This is like Taylor thoroughly beating Marable last year while Marable just beat Burroughs. I'm sure most people would give more credence to what happened more recently.
  17. I would expect those coaches to say exactly what you implied they would say, they are never going to diss their guys. Keep in mind that Cael wasn't asked about this, he just came out and said it. He would not want anyone else to build a program around more than David Taylor. His words, and I can see why he said them. You guys are not getting the major reason here. It has nothing to do with two close losses to Kyle Dake. Nothing. It has everything to do with his style of wrestling and his personality. 3, 2, 1 ....
  18. Taylor Tech Howe while in college. Dake won in overtime. Pretty convincing head to head win for Taylor being the superior wrestler. If anyone wants to take into account common opponents, then Dake had a very close win over Nick Marable while Taylor totally dominated Marable. 3, 2, 1 ....
  19. He has to be mid-60s. He wrestled in the 72 Olympics. I checked and saw he graduated college in 1969. So 66 or 67 seems right.
  20. There is a guy who is a huge NW fan who posts here. He is talking championship contender. While I believe they are absolutely a team (stealing a phrase used by Pitt football every year) "on the rise", I don't see them battling for #1 next year. They are recruiting great with guys like Brill and Micic coming in. Micic absolutely tore up his Dapper Dan opponent.
  21. NJWC, we all know Dake has the 4 individual championships to Taylor's 2, but Taylor's phenomenal point scoring is still what makes young wrestlers want to be like Taylor first, even when compared to Dake. Taylor's style also translates to others on the team trying to emulate what he does, which is equally important to the team concept. It is these reasons why Cael Sanderson would, even in hindsight, choose Taylor over Dake. And given Sanderson won the last 4 titles, his opinion means something. Had Taylor finished in 2nd in 2013 wrestling with a style like Dake's, then Penn State would have lost to Oklahoma State. That is why Penn State fans think so highly of him. He's a big time scorer. Wrestling needs more David Taylors. 3 .... 2..... 1.....
