  1. If Taylor beats Dake he gets something even bigger than the Hodge. In many minds he will have prevented Dake from becoming the GOAT. That win will be right there with what Owings did to Gable.
  2. Why would they feel insulted when by merely winning they can ensure that this match is about THEM? The NCAA didn't place Taylor-Dake last, they placed the weight class last. If the others are good enough, they can still be in that final match. If they aren't, then they didn't earn it.
  3. Well, you are on record at least with your bold pick. You have every right to make that pick too. I don't agree with it, but that is another story.
  4. Based on what? Taylor toyed with Yates in that match, so why will this one be different? This is a fun prediction and all, just not one that looks remotely plausible.
  5. ..why not? I love Wright, so don't get me wrong. It is just that Kilgore is so strong it is hard to get anything going against him. If anyone in the field can do it, it would be Wright. Kilgore did pretty well at Olympic Trials (freestyle) and he is unbeaten this year as well. My heart wants Wright, but my head says Kilgore. Hope to be wrong.
  6. PA is 1rst, and the next three states all border on PA. These top four states represent 40% of all the qualifiers and probably even more of the seeded wrestlers. It is obvious that Cael has a huge advantage recruiting in this great talent pool.
  7. If that was posted by a Penn State fan then I stand corrected. That prediction seems pretty off the wall, though, considering Kilgore finished 3rd at Olympic tryouts, he's a past champion here, and he is undefeated and an absolute hammer this year. I'm a Penn State fan and I don't even have Wright beating Kilgore, and Wright is 10x more accomplished than Burak.
  8. Delgado's 2nd take down of McD at Big10's, McD had superior position and Delgado showed some freakish strength (compared to McD) to turn that position into his favor. Not sure how McD combats that disadvantage when Delgado is also clearly quicker than he is as well.
  9. People are seriously struggling with the concept of UPSET. No surprise it's the PSU fans. The concept is fine with me. I just get a chuckle watching Iowa fans predict Penn State losses while also predicting things like Burak beating Kilgore. You, me and everyone else knows that isn't going to happen.
  10. TBAR.... you're hooked. You took the bait ;) I am enjoying the contortions blowing in from the Great Plains. :D
  11. Here is a preview of the match. If you don't want to see Yates getting TD over and lover again, fast forward to the 7 minute mark and you can just watch Taylor pin him. :D http://www.gohiocasts.com/speaker/557-David-Taylor/video/526809-165lbs-Semi-David-Taylor-PSY-G-vs-Peter-Yates-VT-R Seriously, Yates isn't on Taylor's level.
  12. Don't bite guys, it's a trap! lol...Porter majored Perry so he is capable of an upset. Brown beat him 9-4 this year.
  13. Burroughs today would win, but the Burroughs of back then I don't think so. My argument would be that he beat a younger less experienced Caldwell 2-1 while Dake and Taylor just drill the older more experienced Caldwell with ease. Gotta take both Dake and Taylor in this hypothetical match up.
  14. Glad to play a small part in getting you to NCAA's. You seem like a great guy. Good luck with your recovery. I will be praying for you all the way. TBar
  15. I think they get lumped together by Penn State fans who have watched them grow up. Those fans know that Andrew is very dynamic on his feet and can throw and pin just about anyone when he is at his best. Clearly he has not been at his best of late.
  16. Wire, the rumor is that Penn State's next heavy (after Lawson/Gingrich) is Thomas Haines. Haines is a Pennsylvania high school 220 now, but according to rumors he's stated that he is headed for Hwt. You can find loads of video on him over at Flo.
  17. My feeling as well. BTW, have a great time in Des Moines! :-) ~ TBar
  18. Penn State Nico 3/ 3rd or 4th bonus points Conaway: 5 / 1 and 2 Pearsall: 5 / 1 and 2 Andrew: 4 / 4 to 12, still lots of bonus pts Dylan: 6 / 5 to 8 Taylor 2 / 1 or 2 lots of bonus Brown 1 / 1 to 8 some bonus Ruth 1 / 1 lots of bonus Wright 1 / 2 to 4 (I have Kilgore winning) still, lots of bonus Lawson 8 / 1 and 2 The PSU guys' ceilings and floors are humorously inflated relative to the Minny/Iowa wrestlers. Name names, madcat.
  19. Based solely on AWN rankings, the Altons are ranked lower than their ability for certain. Penn State has scored a lot more bonus than their nearest competitors the past few years, a trend I expect will continue at NCAA's.
  20. Delgado Steiber (Streibler for you Iowa fans.....:-) Maple Oliver Welch (5 or 6 guys can win this) Taylor Perry (8 guys can win this) Ruth Kilgore Bradley (3 or 4 guys can win this) Team Race PSU Okst, Minny, Iowa in no particular order
  21. two-six, I think Penn State can potentially score even more bonus in 2013 than in 2012. Check this out from the past two NCAA Championships: Penn State Bonus points ONLY at the NCAA Tournament... 2011 2012 125 0 1 133 4 0 141 3 0 149 1 2 157 2.5 1 165 0 9.5 174 4 6.5 184 2 4 197 0 0 285 0 1.5 Tot 16.5 25.5 The numbers that stick out to me above are Nico getting 3rd place, Molinaro winning, and Dylan taking 3rd, and between them scoring only 4 bonus points. Of course, Molinaro was injured. Those three weights will score more than 4 bonus points in 2013. I'll give these three weights 7 bp for a +3 this year. Taylor and Ruth will probably decline a little. I'll reduce them by 3. So that is minus -3. Wright stays the same. So far we are even with 2012. Will Matt Brown, Jimmy Lawson, Bryan Pearsall and Jordan Conaway get more than 1.5 combined? I believe there are a couple earkly riound pins in there somewhere, so I will say yes. The end result is that we'll have slightly more bonus than year if this all works out. This will give us a 6 to 10 point edge in bonus points. I'm confident.
  22. I would love to have this comfort you seem to have. Penn State won B1G by less than comfortable margin right? Now lets make 1 change. Storley wins it at 174. How does that change things from a team score? 8 point swing in the finals alone, plus semis etc etc. Of course it's hypothetical and yes the Altons could have great tourney and increase the lead but this isn't the same MN and OSU. Not to mention that there were some great wrestlers and teams not in the mix at the scuffle. Man, I hope you're right though. :D two-six, the reason for my comfort is that when you look at where the Iowa and Minny wrestlers finished at Big10's, some of them won't come anywhere near close to that at Nationals. Here is a list of where they finished at Big10's and where they'll be projected at NCAA's. Every team will have some drop off, but Penn State will still be a bonus machine. I'm confident. Iowa McD 2 /3rd or 4th some bonus Ramlos 2 /2 some bonus Ballweg 2 / 7 to 10 Dziewa n/a St. John 3 / 3rd - 6th Evans 2 / 1rst - 8th Lofthouse 3 / 6th - 12th Burak 4 / 2 and 2 Telford 3 / 3rd - 8th Minny Thorn 6 / 1 and 2 C. Dardanes 4 / 5 to 8 N. Dardanes 3 / 7 to 10 Ness 1 / 2 to 6 bonus + Zilverberg 5 / 2 and 2 Yohn 3 / 2 and 2 Storley 7 / 1 to 8 Steinhouse 2 / 2nd to 6th some bonus Schiller 2 / 8 to 12 Nelson 1 / 1 to 3 some bonus Penn State Nico 3/ 3rd or 4th bonus points Conaway: 5 / 1 and 2 Pearsall: 5 / 1 and 2 Andrew: 4 / 4 to 12, still lots of bonus pts Dylan: 6 / 5 to 8 Taylor 2 / 1 or 2 lots of bonus Brown 1 / 1 to 8 some bonus Ruth 1 / 1 lots of bonus Wright 1 / 2 to 4 (I have Kilgore winning) still, lots of bonus Lawson 8 / 1 and 2
  23. I can't really see Penn State losing at Nationals. Penn State beat Okie State and Minny at The Scuffle, and they beat Iowa and Minny at Big10's, and in neither event did they come close to reaching their full potential. Yet they still win. If Penn State wrestles to their potential then they win. And even if they don't they probably still win.
  24. Actually, I'm not. What I am saying is that the combination of Cael and all that #1 type talent is hard to beat. This means that, on balance, they'll win a lot more than they will lose. The dynamic even holds up when all 10 wrestlers do not do well in a tournament, which is what happened at Big10. Five different wrestlers underperformed, but they still won. I assume you mean Conaway and Pearsall? Maybe Lawson? Lawson performed where I expected, not where I had hoped. I hoped he would surprise some guys and finish top 4. Conaway had a four seed, but nobody really expected him to finish there and I was very happy with his performance. Pearsall, I gave this guy a lot of crap last couple of years. He didn't deserve it. He wrestled great and got us much needed team points (16?) that I never expected out of him. So five is your opinion, my opinion is at worst four underperformed. Nico (slightly) Andrew Dylan Brown should have decked Evans ;) two-six, according to the link I found at the Big10, Mega, Conoway, Pearsall and Lawson all finished one spot lower than seed. Then you have the Altons. I know Andrew finished one spot better than seed, but both Andrew and Dylan underperformed my expectations. Yet, Penn State still ends up winning, which was the point I wanted to make. Penn State doesn't need to click on all cylinders to win, but right now those other teams do. The basic premise is that a squad full of kids Cael can cherry pick from our traditional recruiting area is likely to have more top end wrestlers than what Iowa, Minny or anyone else has. There will obviously be years where this won't occur, but I do think it will happen a lot.
