He would be meeting with Biden??
So we are clear...I wrote that as a to point out how ridiculous it is to bring up politics when a great man/coach/mentor/athlete/etc. is receiving an award representing the greatest sport on earth (I too am not an Iowa fan).  Does peoples hate know no bounds???
If you can't see fault in both our presidential options, and chose to call them very disgusting untrue names based on what the media tells you to believe then you sir are exactly what is wrong with this country, and thanks again for getting this thread shut down when it was started to honor a great man.  SMH....

okwrestle reacted to jross in How Important Is It To Have Mom and Dad in the Audience?
My parents never missed a competition event.  There was a time in school where I asked my father to stop coming to my football practices.  He was the only dad to come and watch.  Later I'd see my father holding binoculars, near a truck parked 300 yards away, hidden behind the tree line.  I was embarrassed then.  I'm thankful now.  Dad didn't know how to vocalize his love but he showed it through sacrifice and action.  In comparison, my wife's parents hardly saw her compete in school sporting event.  It bothers her that while she came from a loving family, her parents chose other activities over sporting attendance.  My own family of five goes to every event and supports one another.  I'll be supporting my children even if they ask me not to and I will always vocalize those words "I love you."  I lost my dad when he was 43 and I was 20.

That was one of the best duals I've seen in a while. Blood , guts, suspense, rally, crowd.  Love being able to see these live.  Not like the old days when I had to wait for my Amateur Wrestling News to arrive to get the scoop.

Wanted to give some separate-thread props to these two guys.  That was fabulous.
The first half of the dual had a close score but no competitive matches and with the injury at 133 everything seemed a little off (watching by TV anyway).
Then the top marquee match of the top dual of the year if not years leads off the second half and the 2x nat'l champ and the guy who was undefeated against him put on a show.
Great ties all match, particularly multiple extended stretches with the best double unders guy and the best double overs guy getting their holds in and ending up in a titanic throw that went the other way from prior matches.
Marinelli battling back and hitting his own throw which with more time in the period might have made it a nail biter to the end.
Blood all over both wrestlers faces for half the match.
    Boom!  Great stuff.

Personally I would have set the line up at:
    165   Smith     Jr  2x AA
    174   Rogers   Sr  2x AA
    184   Smith     SR  1x AA
    197   Weigel    Sr   1x AA
odd man out would be Geer who is only a soph and never an AA
The only question would have been who gets 165 with loser going to 174
That, I believe, is the "right" thing to do.  Its not as if John's decision would give the team a chance to upset PSU this year

Payed football, wrestled , and ran track all four years in hs,
Wrestling was by far the most demanding primarily because of the weight cutting.
Our coach used to tell us that if we can handle wrestling's demands we'd be better prepared for whatever life throws at us.
In hindsight, I agree, that the discipline and mental toughness aspect has helped me.
I'm 62 and still work out 5 days/week Mon - Fri in the am before work. I credit part of that discipline to wrestling which has stayed in my blood.
I love the sport and have a deep appreciation for the talent and sacrifice of those at at the D1 level.

This dual might be more interesting if OSU would bump Dieringer up to face Nickal and have Rogers wrestle 165.
If both Crutch and Smith are out its a stretch though.

okwrestle got a reaction from silver-medal in Did you ever, seriously, almost quit wrestling, but
When I was a high school junior I got fed up with the cutting weight/practice grind and "quit".  I tried soccer for 1 week and knew that was not the ticket. I asked the coach to come back and he said sure but you must ask the team as well. So I asked my team mates to take me back which they did and in my first varsity match I won by fall which was the best medicine of all. Wrestling has never left my psyche since then and I will be always appreciative of the life lessons it taught.

Pushing out shouldn't be a legit wrestling move for folk or free. Should be just for greco since its upperbody focused.
Instead, stalling should be more agressively enforced which would force wrestlers to be offensive.
