  6. Weight training – the 50-50 positions in wrestling will almost always go to the strongest wrestler. A good strength program 2X a week year round is vital. Get strong. Good luck! - Purler Wrestling http://www.purlerwrestling.com
  7. Practice time – try to get into a drilling flow in practice… By doing this you will maximize your improvement. Good luck! - Purler Wrestling http://www.purlerwrestling.com

  10. The 13th Annual Takedown Machine Drill Camp Camp dates are available at http://www.purlerwrestling.com This is an overnight camp that drew kids from as far away as Alaska last year and kids from over 25 different states. High School and youth teams generally come as well as individuals from across the country. Many of the top NCAA Wrestlers you see on TV have attended our camp. Small Group (50 per camp) - Not the 700 kids per week spread across the indoor football fields as you get with the chaotic college sponsored camps. Drill intensive - No random moves followed by recreational drill time. Repetition is the mother of all skill. System based - We follow a drilling system / plan that gives your son exactly what they MUST know in order to be tremendous on their feet. A ‘master this and be great’ plan is essential to success. Trial and error camps are a waste of time. Wrestling only – If you want your son to run, do pushups, and get screamed at by college kids at 6 am, do not come to our camp. All we do is wrestle and keep the kids engaged in the sport of wrestling. Besides, all the conditioning will wear off by time season comes and there is no need to pay someone to watch your son run or do pushups. The so-called intensive camps can in fact, be a poor way to spend our wrestling dollars. Professional coaching- Only Nick, Tony, and a few of our trained coaches will be running the camps. Not random college kids as you get at the meat market camps. Proof - At most camps, the director will say 'If you learn just one move this week, you got your monies worth'. Oddly enough, everyone nods in approval. At the Purler Camp, we invite you to come watch the final practice where we take your son through the entire camp format before your eyes and prove to you that we did our job. We are eager the impress you and plan on doing just that. Dream Season Camp This 14 day camp is the nation's first and only TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE training camp and a place to train with top Middle School and High School wrestlers from around the USA. Kids from New England to AK to FL to CA and everywhere inbetween attending last year. The afternoon session is a great time to compete with some of the top kids from around the USA and nearly every wrestler in attendance last year was a State medalists with many nationally ranked wrestlers in attendance. Sign up at http://www.purlerwrestling.com Bring a camp to your town – email nick@purlerwrestling.com to bring a Purler camp to your hometown. Weekly training – Purler Wrestling Academy offers training opportunities on a weekly basis for those living in the states of MO, IL, and KS. Details are available on line. Call Nick if you have questions 314.229.3540 Good luck.... Purler Wrestling
  11. Matches – you are better off in live wrestling, at least some of the practice time, to spend live wrestling time going matches vs just all out live wrestling. This way, kids can get used to the ‘feel’ of what a 2 minute period feels like, and they can PRACTICE winning matches. We should change the way we wrestle in a match according to the score and the time on the clock. For example, we would never throw a headlock the last 15 seconds of a match if we were winning by one point. But, if we were losing by a few we might just go for it. Matches in practice bring about big improvements come tournament time. -Purler Wrestling http://www.purlerwrestling.com

  13. System – you are FAR better off as a coach and / or wrestler to have a system of drill routines. Similar to a weight training routine, a practice routine that is neither too big or too narrow is just what you will need. Generally, a few of the best leg attacks, a few of the best ways to score from a front headlock, etc is the best route to take. Write this down and tape it to your wrestling room wall. Follow this just as a teacher would follow a lesson plan. It is better to focus on a narrow drill plan and do this same plan over and over and over than it is to have a massive set of drill routines and only get to spend a few minutes a week mastering that enormous plan. Good luck! - Purler Wrestling
