That sucks.. Thanks for the updates, much appreciated

I am guessing there is a good chance he is taking a "less academic" major in Junior College to give him a chance to improve his English and adapt to the US as I am sure it is a big change from Mongolia.

Lomtadze seems to be appear in every FS highlight video on Youtube, both executing some fantastic moves and getting dropped spectacularly on his head

Flo not paying women from Captains Cup?
Jim L replied to IronChef's topic in International Wrestling
Small businesses that pay their vendors on time or early get premium service especially if the vendors are small. Working in Industry it is amazing how much cash flow matters to small business and how appreciative they are for early payments -
I would guess that the success of the college drives High School level excellence as well. Kids see bunches of guys from their state doing well nationally at MU, it sets their goals and expectations higher. I think this is why wrestling talent in the Pacific NW is slowly fading
-
I wasn't narrowing down my statement to just wrestlers, but generally to cover top level athletes across sports. I suspect many are not the good teammates/humble competitors/humanitarians they try to portray themselves as. I am fine with that. I admire athletes for their athletic abilities and their drive, if I learn that they fall short of their public image that does not bother me at all and I can still be a fan, exceptions made for criminal acts and cheating
-
100% I also suspect a lot of the athletes who come across as great guys are actually 5 star a-holes, but at least are self aware enough to keep that side hidden to the public
-
More that the motivation and life priorities for a 30+ year old and two time Olympian are not going to be the same as a 18/19 year old right out of high school
-
I checked out the link. Why aren't they vaccinating? 2.6 doses per 100 while the US is at 71 per 100. I would think a rich country like Japan who took the pandemic very seriously would be ahead of the curve
-
If we are looking at a bell curve for weight distribution we should not be focusing on the US distribution, but look at some of the Asian countries with wrestling traditions that tend to have smaller bodies than the west
-
I like this too, but think it would hurt some of the really small guys who are already a little small for 57kg

Younger brother doing better than older brother?
Jim L replied to klehner's topic in College Wrestling
To add an international flavor, some Russian with multiple world golds outshone by their brothers: The younger Makharbek Khadartsev (2x Oly Gold, 1x Oly Sivler, 5x World champ) > Aslan Khadartsev(3X World champ) Twins, Sergei Beloglazov (2x Oly Gold, 6X World champ) > Anatoly Beloglazov (1x Oly Gold, 3x World Champ) The elder Buvaisar Satiev (3x Oly Gold, 6x World Champ) > Adam Satiev (1xOly Gold, 3x World Champ) -
Younger brother doing better than older brother?

Other brothers that I can think of that I will let someone else rank: Troy and Terry Steiner John and Ben Peterson, Jim and Bill Scherr, Ed and Lou Banach, Dave and Mark Schultz, Duane and Dennis Kozlowski -
Sea Bass competing for PR? This is the first I have heard about that. I would think he is too small to be a real threat at 65KG
-
I hate this. Bad calls happen everywhere. Unless they can prove something like a pay off took place, the person who has his hand raised at the end of a match should not have a court take it away.

Pat Smith outdid John and Leroy in college. Dustin Schlatter was better than CP. Gable Steveson much better then Bobby Chris and Mark Perry about even? -
I thought the general consensus was the Karelin was juiced to the gills. Wasn't his nickname "the Experiment" a reference to the amount of PEDs he was on?
-
What do he do during the off-season to gain so much weight? I would think world class athletes are still doing at least one moderately hard workouts per day. How much do you have to eat to put on that much weight do quickly? I can't help think about fellow Easton native Jack Cuvo, who I recently saw I picture. I had not seen him since he was wrestling, and it was a shock to my system. Cuvo does not get enough credit, at his peak he is among the best NCAA lightweights ever. I did see that Cuvo has claimed addiction and mental health problems, so I hope hometown is the only thing they share.

Will we see Dake vs Sidakov at Tokyo?
Jim L replied to sbarrett5432's topic in International Wrestling
When was the Marble match? Is he the only person in the world to beat both JB and Dake? Taylor never beat Dake, right? -
I think Smith when he won in Seoul, was more dominant than JB or Bruce ever was. When I watched him beat Sarkissian, I had to remind myself that Sarkissian was the 2nd best guy in the world, not some JV scrub that Smith was drilling on. I don't ever recall seeing JB that much better than the competition.

It was hard to follow international wrestling in those days, but I remember almost all his loses were close and most of his big wins were as well. Most years it seemed like he was a guy that could win Gold if things went well for him. IMO, Bruce never was clearly the best in the world at his weight class like Burroughs was at his peak.

Can't believe he was at Standford for 13 years. I remember people criticizing the hire on this forum, doesn't seem that long ago.

Did your state GOAT come from the pool of undefeated’s?
Jim L replied to headshuck's topic in College Wrestling
Pretty sure he hit that throw in a preliminary round against a Multiple time world champ Russian in OT. I remember people complaining that he absolutely get screwed in regualtion by the refs and it never should have gone to OT. Every bit as good of a story and much better wrestling than Gardner/Karelin I also think he got tossed onto his head in the semi-finals and that was the beginning of neck injuries that shortened his college career. -
No. Stalling on the mat is too subjective. Referees would be to involved in the outcome. Only way is to bring them back to their feet after a certain time like freestyle. If you give points for riding, then guys are going to be doing anything they can to ride. Unrealistic to expect that wrestlers are going to be able to turn other D1 opponents. It is way too tough, unless you are Spencer Lee, then it is easy
