Wrestling is not popular in Russia as a whole.

Wrestling is popular in a few republics, mostly in the Caucasus region and Siberia. Wrestling in Russia is practiced by almost no ethnic Russians, but instead by minority ethnic groups, some of whom don't identify as Russian at all.

I know how horrified people were and still are about Reza Yazdani (2011, 2013 World Champion) and his patented foot stomp to snatch single. Discussion about this move still rages almost 4 years after Yazdani's last world level medal.

I was shocked and dismayed to see that American Hero and Boy Wonder, Kyle Snyder, of THE Ohio State University, is now using the same move to dig his way out of matches he should rightfully lose. How could this be? Snyder was pure wrestling distilled, now we know he is nothing more than a cheater and no better than a common thief.

Please keep all PED discussion out of this thread. We all know that Kyle Snyder is probably on a PED regimen supplied by Tom Ryan and his church group, but this thread is about proven cheating and cheating that actually makes in-match differences.

Most of these Russians don't identify with Russia and none of them are Russian ethnically. They are usually citizens of quasi-independent republics who have a long and bitter history of fighting with Russia.

It would be cool if Dagestan, Ossetia, Chechnya, Abkhazia, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Yakutia, Buryatia, Tuva, etc could send their 1 or 2 or 3 representatives each. You would see the best wrestlers in the Olympics not just the best of each "country", whatever that means.

    Hi all

Here is my take on Mongolian team at the Olympics. Our World medalists Nomin 60kg and Tserenchimed 58kg are staying at home. It would have been unheard of 4 years ago, but our wrestling has come a long way in terms of depth.

57kg - Bekhbayar - 2015 Bronze medallist - He will get at least a bronze medal, even make the finals if his draw does not include Khinchigeshvili.

65kg - Mandakhnaran - In probably his last Olympics, the veteran will give his all. Hope he will do enough to medal. Nomin would have been a more threat but he is young and can wrestle for 2020.

74kg - Unurbat - 2015 Silver medalist will be in form to get his first Olympic medal. Barring a draw on the side of JB or Geduev (Russian rep), he will medal for sure.

86kg - Uitumen - He burned through the Asian qualifier, hope he wins couple of matches

97kg - Khuderbulga - He finally qualified in the final Asian qualifiers. Hope he wins a match

125kg - Chuluunbat - Chuka will win couple of matches, barring any lingering injuries. He is unlucky in Olympics, he almost pinned Makhov in London, but did not get the fall.

    Female Wrestling

53kg - Sumiya - She was disqualified due to Meldonium, but reinstated by WADA. Hope she wins couple of matches

58kg - Orkhon - She got the nod over Sukhee because she could beat Icho. She will medal if not in the final. She lost the final in Asian qualifiers but she will be quality

63kg - Battsetseg - All She Sees is Gold. She will settle for nothing less than a Gold. She will tech every opponent to the finals

69kg - Nasanburmaa - The veteran will win couple of matches for sure and may medal at the end of the day

Wishing everyone a great Olympic wrestling show!

It is well known and researched that the deltoid (shoulder) and trapezius muscles have more androgen receptors than other muscles and are disproportionately affected by steroid use.

If someone has 3-D or "bowling ball" delts and disproportionately big traps, it is usually a clear visual indication they have been using steroids.

This is Anzor Zakuev, son of Arsen Zakuev, one of the top coaches in Kabardino-Balkaria. He's 18 and has a very exciting and dynamic style, I expect big things from him. He's also an extremely nice kid and comes from a great family.

Here he is giving Ramonov a tough match, maybe the highest scoring match of nationals

Here is he showing off more of his "unorthodox" moves

He ended up taking 5th place at nationals.
