It was one of the FLO interviews.  Can't recall which one.   Yea, I was a little surprised, too, but I get the sense that DT and Cox have kept their distance and Bo was at Worlds to help Taylor.

It was the UWW: THE International body that governs the whole sport, that "moron"!

Dream on.  Clowney would get tech-ed.  He may have improved some in recent months, but Taylor is a World Champion who has beaten many, many top ranked guys in his weight class and he hasn't lost in nearly two years.

Yes, the information sharing by the powers-that-be is unimpressive.  Not fan-friendly in other words.

    (1) Place a maximum on the number of times you can turn a guy with a leg lace or gut.  Two times seems sufficient.
Personally, I can't stand matches where a guy gets a takedown and immediately turns his opponent four times to end the match.
    (2) Allow the guy on bottom to fight back more and resist (especially if you want to extend the time a top guy has to work).  I've never understood why they compel the bottom wrestler to "open up" so much and don't allow him to hand fight the position more extensively.  It seems counter to the very nature of the sport.

6 weights and 16 qualified guys per weight is terrible, but it will be the very opposite of "watered down".
You will get many more elite wrestlers competing for far fewer spots.  That will make it more rather than less difficult to win an Olympic title or medal.
If wrestling really wanted to reflect the true rankings and challenges, it would allow up to three wrestlers from the top countries like Russia and the US if they have in fact qualified.
Track and field encourages the best athletes to compete by allowing up to three qualifiers from a country if they have met minimum times or distances (which are actually quite difficult and world class).
It's a shame that the Olympics has become so much of a commercial spectacle that encourages marginal and questionable "sports" while downplaying serious historical, traditional and very demanding sports.

I don't think there is a big mystery.
At 57, 65, and 70 KG, most of the top tier guys will be competing a few days later at the US Open (because there is no one with a bye to the finals of Final X), so they (Team USA) probably found it much harder to find an elite wrestler willing to make the trip to Argentina and most likely miss out on the US Open in Las Vegas.
At 79 KG, Dake is most likely going to compete at the US Open at 74 KG.   Others like Dieringer are competing there at 79 KG.

Dake's absence at Pan Ams and this tweet (below) signal he is moving on down or at least going to test the waters at 74KG at the US Open.
If he feels good and performs well, perhaps he will stay at the weight to take on Borroughs in Final X (assuming of course Dake earns the spot).   If not, I believe he still has time to accept his own Final X spot at 79 KG right after the US Open:

How can anyone not enjoy and appreciate the talents of Nolf?
The guy has seriously helped to advance and even to some degree reinvent aspects of the sport.
He is one of those rare figures who will be mentioned with the likes of Schalles, Askren, Sanderson, and Gable when folks stand back and take a broader historical perspective.
He introduced creative elements from jiu jitsu and other areas.
He is as much of an artist as an athlete.

The whole context of the match would have changed.  That wasn't a last second 3rd period takedown.  Nolf may have turned up the sense of urgency and gotten the points back.

Ok, I see why Hidlay didn't get the takedown.  Notice in the gif below that when Nolf's right hand is down, his left leg is in the air.  By the time his left leg hits the mat, his right hand is now off the mat.  He magically retains two points of contact the entire time.

I absolutely loved watching Nolf dismantle and, yes, torture Van Brill.
The universe was once again restored to order.
Rutgers  often acts like the Poor Man's Iowa of the East.
They seem to pride themselves on all that empty macho posturing.
Good to see it drained from their bodies by masterful technical superiority

Who is that absolutely horrible ESPN wrestling announcer who mispronounces names and doesn't know moves and just about everything else?
He has the voice of an older guy who likes wrestling but doesn't know much of anything.
He gets a mat every year, but I suspect he must be the grandfather of some rich conservative guy at the corporation.

All of  European wrestling must wonder why a class act like Micic must actually step onto the mat with a feral creature named De Satan.
