Sanders was the only wrestler in history to shut out 1972 Olympic gold medalist Dan Gable in a match. Sanders beat Gable 6-0 in the semifinals at the 1967 AAU National Championships. Gable highlighted his relationship with Sanders in his book titled "A Wrestling Life," and an excerpt can be read here.

dmm53 got a reaction from Katie in 141 seeds at Big Tens
Here is Regularfan's reasoning about the seeds (from BWI forum).
141 lbs (projecting 9 qualifiers so will seed to 14 if that holds)

    1. Nick Lee (Penn State) (23-1, 7-1 Big 10 Starters) – Call this my bold prediction but Lee is the highest ranked in the coaches release of the top three and suffered his only loss in OT. I also think some coaches will punish Carr for missing the last dual and so Lee will get either #1 or #2 votes and Carr will get #1 or #3 votes (behind McKenna) to be the difference

    2. Mike Carr (Illinois) (11-2, 6-0 Big 10 Starters) – Undefeated I think he will split #1 and #3 votes

    3. Joey McKenna (Ohio State) (16-1, 5-1 Big 10 Starters) – higher than Carr in the coaches poll by two spots but he will split #2 and #3 votes from coaches and end up hitting Carr in semis (if my prediction holds)

    4. Tristan Moran (Wisconsin) (19-6, 5-2 Big 10 Starters) – Lost to McKenna, Carr, beat Lee and pinned McKee

    5. Mitch McKee (Minnesota) (15-3, 7-2 Big 10 Starters) – Beat everybody below (and a lot of them), McKee and Storr are very close but McKee has been slightly more dominant vs. common opponents

    6. Kanen Storr (Michigan) (20-4, 6-3 Big 10 Starters) – Storr could very easily be 5 and did have a higher coaches rank than both Moran and McKee but I just see him as #6

    7. Max Murin (Iowa) (12-5, 5-3 Big 10 Starters) – has the weird loss by fall against Luigs but has been everybody else below him

    8. Chad Red (Nebraska) (15-10, 1-5 Big 10 Starters) – wrestled a lot of the top guys, did beat Lipari who beat Limmex (who I am projecting to get a bid)

    9. Peter Lipari (Rutgers) (9-10, 2-6 Big 10 Starters) – interesting to me because I don’t have Lipari qualifying one of the 9 bids but he did beat Limmex in overtime

    10. Nate Limmex (Purdue) (16-12, 2-6 Big 10 Starters) – better overall ranking than Lipari and in the coaches rank (which Lipari was not) but he lost the head-to-head, seeded 10th even though I have him qualifying the ninth and final bid

    11. Kyle Luigs (Indiana) (13-14, 1-4 Big 10 Starters) – Pinned Murin but lost to Limmex, could also be 12

    12. Austin Eicher (Michigan State) (13-11, 1-4 Big 10 Starters) – beat McKenna for only conference win

    13. Danny Bertoni (Maryland) (13-12, 0-4 Big 10 Starters) – winning record overall was difference to me although he was a backup doing opens for some of the year

    14. Alec McKenna (Northwestern) (8-10, 0-7 Big 10 Starters) – was the man all year long for Northwestern, will coaches reward that with 13 seed over Bertoni?

Marinelli should have been hit for stalling in the second period.  Would have given Wick the win since Marinelli was called for it later.

He didn't go as far as these guys (below) or the Mongolian coaches in the Olympics.   But it might have been more entertaining if he had done so.

Maryland has 1 win in the Big Ten in the last 5 years (over Michigan State).
They are currently 0-6 and being outscored by Big Ten opponents this year 40-205.
    Overall 0-9 this year.
Before entrance into the Big Ten, they were performing better in the ACC.

Maybe no one consciously dislikes Sanderson for this reason but it might be a subconscious factor: namely, that he was "perfect" in college: 159-0 with 4 titles.
And he doesn't tend to draw attention to himself or his own achievements.  He appears serenely aloof and even sublimely detached in a more- or other-than-human way at times.
It is hard for most of us to relate in a personal way to perfection.  You can't top it.  It is near-impossible to achieve or emulate.  It is in some sense "inhuman". And, while his tenure as coach at PSU clearly has not been perfect, it certainly has been extremely dominant and arguably without scandal or large doses and displays of ego.
Some folks liked to dislike Iowa when they thoroughly ruled the sport for years. And maybe Oklahoma State before that.  These teams were "the Yankees" of wrestling,.  But now that torch is carried by Penn State  . . . at least for the time being.
I suspect there is frequently  a desire or to see giants fail or fall  . . . or be felled: celebrities, the rich, the powerful, the successful.  Cosmic "justice" almost demands it; poetic justice wants it.
And, who knows, there might even be a hidden longing for disaster and the drama or intensity that comes with all that—a wish for the ruination of others, the possibility that one's own team can then ascend, and sometimes the delicious or seditious enjoyment in this suffering of others (schadenfreude).
Isn't in fact there another thread currently on The Mat called "PSU - How the Dynasty Will End".  (What's that remark by Yogi Berra or maybe Neils Bohr: something like "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future"?)
