No one on god's green earth looked at Carter Starocci in HS and said '"NCAA Champ as a freshman"
i had him high on the big board but i doubt many people thought the same or regarded him as that promising.
Aaron Brooks had one loss as a true frosh and won a title in an undefeated second season.
i mean, you guys try real hard to be blind.

I appreciate your commitment good sir, and I apologize if I misunderstood the purpose of this thread.  I will provide real feedback free of snark as much as possible.  I had a Flo subscription for many years, and spent at least minutes though oftentimes hours a day on Flo just about everyday for the past twelve years.
    THE GOOD THINGS FLO DID:
Broadly speaking, there is no question Flowrestling is responsible for wrestling in the US being where it is today.  Kids raised on Flo have had access to incredible knowledge and wrestling footage that really wasn’t a thing a decade ago if you didn’t grow up in a wrestling hotspot.
Initially, Flo provided access to new events, wrestlers, concepts and material.  Domestically, I think of events like the early Southern Scuffle coverage with Fretwell and Roper, as well as central Michigan/Kent St duals with Zeb Miller.  Those guys knew their stuff cold and were objective wrestling enthusiasts.  They were there to be excited about wrestling and knew the wrestlers and the teams cold.  It was almost impossible to watch a match they were matside for without learning something new.
Internationally, Flo put in the effort to provide access to things that we in the US didn’t even know existed, or could never dream of having access to.  The best example I can give of this would be coverage of Russian Nationals prior to the 2008 Olympics, that coverage was just unreal, and exposed US wrestlers and fans to new environments, ways of wrestling, wrestlers, and a nation in ways that 99.9% of people will never get to see.
Where Flo wasn’t doing this, it raised the level of analysis or production value of events that were already being broadcasted, but were really poorly done.  NCAA’s is the prime example of this.  They used to be ATROCIOUS.  It is undoubtedly thanks to Flo that NCAA coverage isn’t horrendous grainy garbage anymore.  Flo forced standardization of the 8-mat multicast for NCAA’s, and improved coverage of BigTen’s as well.  Ditto for Fargo coverage.
I could go on, because Flo has done a lot of good things. Overall, the tone and messaging of Flo content was positive and geared towards objective, enthusiastic  growth of the sport of wrestling in the US and worldwide.
    MY CURRENT CRITICISMS:
I’m sorry to say, it has been a long time since Flo-related material has felt that way.  Three to four years ago, there was a gradual but tangible shift in tone of articles, FRL, and match coverage, going from sport growth and objective enthusiasm-mindedness to infighting, social-media gossip, and least common denominator sh*t-stirring.  FRL is the prime example of this change.
In the past, if you, Mr Spey, or a Mr Bader were present on any episode, I could guarantee you I would listen to that episode front to back, and I would hear about and learn about wrestling.  The amount of wrestling that actually gets discussed in the average FRL episode now is between low and non-existent.  Instead, it is geared towards arbitrary reading of social media posts, sideways innuendos and derision, either outright or by omission.
My litmus test for content and tenor is, if I were a High School coach, would I guide my guys towards Flo to improve their wrestling and bolster their enthusiasm for the sport?  Five years ago it was an unequivocal yes, and I did so in droves because Flo had the best technique repository, coaches interviews, and event coverage.  New wrestlers could learn about the world of wrestling, Flo was the perfect guide to every level of the sport.
Today? I’m sorry to say no, I would not make this same recommendation. Partially because Flo videos quite often don’t load properly and the website has become very difficult to navigate. The event listing in FloArena is a mess, to the extent I would avoid that page at all costs. It doesn’t populate all that logically, and has WAY too many dropdown tabs.  That’s the website end.
Mainly, however, I would not recommend my guys go to Flo because I have less than complete faith that a new wrestler wouldn’t get sucked down some rabbithole about bickering, instagram posts and twitter fights.  I understand it’s good for the wrestlers that get quoted when you do that, but for the consumer, it’s a lot of chaff to sort through.
Flo has gone from being the unequivocal king of wrestling media, the CBS/PBS/NYT/SportsIllustrated all in one,  to what feels much more like a checkout aisle tabloid of sarcasm and gossip that is tangentially related to wrestlers.  I understand that there is push to create content bc of competition and marketshare under current ownership, but since you are overhauling the website, maybe you could separate the gossip content from the real wrestling stuff in a very clearly defined manner?  As it is/was, there was no way to tell what the next article you scroll through will be, they are entirely unrelated except for the fact that they are Flo content.
Flo was the homepage for wrestling, there was nowhere else to be.  I hope sincerely it finds that stride again, because it was a lot of fun and was great for the sport.

Spey, I am a recent former Flo subscriber. I just let my subscription lapse about 2 or 3 weeks ago after 4 or 5 years. For me the reasons were three fold.
    1. I was unhappy with what I viewed as a heavy handed attempt to quash competition with the Willie Saylor lawsuit.
    2. The loss of Big 10 wrestling made it such that there was less content that I cared about. While picking up UWW was nice, it was not as important to me. And in some cases, did not matter. For example, I watched the trials on Peacock (yes, I know, USAW, but international nonetheless). And I will watch the Olympics on broadcast.
    3. FRL has become less interesting to me. While I don't mind some of the silliness about things like crypto, Brittney Spears, haunchies, etc., I do feel there has been a loss of balance, with too much silliness and not enough serious content. And while I have advocated giving development time to new content providers, so far I have not seen the hoped for development.
I was recently offered a 20% discount to re-subscribe and may do that, but at the moment I am leaning toward not. I appreciate your engagement on this board.

Tbar I give you credit to keep coming here and mixing it up with so many dopes.

It’s amazing Iowa fans can’t understand why we were thrilled with the outcome Saturday night.

The team title was won prior to finals, we get it, congrats Iowa!

The finals is for crowning individual national champs. Like you said “Hollywood Ending.” We knocked off two Iowa wrestlers that were seeded above us, knocked off Fix who some people were saying “next topic” and Brooks finally may get ranked #1 by Flo. 4 for 4 is amazing and anyone to try to diminish that is just sour apples

As a subscriber of Flo for last 6 or 7yrs, I finally cancelled Flo and subscribed to Intermat.

Flo cost me $130 a year for no B1Gs, horrible rankings and snarky hosts with no inside info to anything going on in wrestling world. And very little original articles with stuff I didn’t know already.

I subscribed to Intermat 2 weeks ago for $40 a year for some incredibly written articles, staffed by people actually “in the know” of what’s going on. I’ll get B1G10 + for a few months next year to get my B1G10 fix.

Saved money, much better writing, people in the know..no brainer for me

I do have to agree, I canceled my FLO as well, and a big part of it is how much snark has replaced earnest, enthusiastic journalism and wrestling coverage compared to the the Martin, Bader, and JoeFlo days.

Berge shouldn’t be ranked 7th. Kerk should be ahead of Hilger since they met H2H and Kerk majored him.

Did Lewis or Maranelli beat O’Toole?

I’m fine with 6th for Kerk; he beat Hilger pretty decisively at B1Gs. Hilger being seeded above him at NCAAs was a joke. If they swap places for NCAA seeding, Kerk would likely wrestle, and potentially win, the 5th place match.

Berge at 9-12 would be acceptable. He’s got some good wins, but MFFd out. It is what it is.

Flo rankings are garbage. By the criteria they use to justify the rankings, Mekhi should still be #1, since he didn't lose by anything but med forfeit. Why did Wentzel not pass Lewis after handedly beating him in a duel (which Lewis forfeited while losing in the 3rd period), but passed him after nationals (which Lewis also forfeited out of)? Drop the "scientific" bs, because the guys at Flo aren't smart enough to keep their own rules straight.

Honestly Spey's ratings(they aren't rankings) make it nearly not worth the re-up.
    Nearly.
Good thing intermat will have rankings that make sense, still.  I hope to fck that they don't let him near the Trackgents rankings.  That would be a travesty.

I wish we knew what the true story was.

Personally I feel bad for DeSanto. He wrestled his ass off and was a big part of Iowa winning. Honestly thought he should have beaten Fix

To all the talk of (they could have taken his points away and PSU would win. I would hate to see that and It wouldn’t be a “real” win in my eyes as a PSU fan.

For him not to be a part of the team pic, parade, etc. That just sucks for him. I also noticed Brands didn’t mention DeSanto when talking about guys that won them the team title.

Whatever happened, I guess this is how all coaches would have handled it, so I’m not blaming Brands.

I just feel bad for the kid. As much as I’m a PSU fan, I’m also a fan of kids that go and give 100% and DeSanto fits that description

Ridiculous and probably true. Problem with him is he thinks it’s all a joke. Flo has lost so much credibility this last year and these guys still think it’s a joke.

I’ll be cancelling as soon as trials are over. Just tired of the smugness (and it’s not all Spey).

They have no insiders, and that’s what’s killing them. They have a bunch of fans but no sources. They screwed themselves when they got rid of Willie. He was the one insider they had.

So, if I follow Spey’s logic correctly, Mekhi Lewis is the end-of-year #1 because INJ DEFs and MED FFTs don’t negatively impact one’s ranking.

At some point your rankings will stop being considered rankings for even the general and basic fan.
For as much as you gents have done to grow the sport, your stance here on rankings gets more of a WWE feel every time it gets discussed.
Use whatever basis you want, ignoring the 'gut' or common instinct factor is truly silly.
As much as I hate to say it, I'm going to use the comparison(s): NCAA Mens Basketball and NCAA Football take into account projected greatness and aptitude, both before and during the season.  ESPN does better with their rankings of both of those sports than Flo, supposedly our/wrestling's predominant media outlet.  You know why?  They allow their expert opinion(s) in on their ranking procedure.
After seeing how piss-poor your rankings were in relation to results, I truly hope they aren't part of your review process.  Add in the laughable and robotic attempt at defending them as if you're attempting to seed, and it is becoming more and more like WWE.  That is wonderful and lovely for entertainment purposes as we get to see you gents squirm and get all riled up week in, week out.  You absolutely know the biggest detriment that we all know and love about the WWE is that it is known as a scripted sham.
Keep going the way you're going and you're going to be looking across at your meetings and see more Trackgents and less Floboys sooner rather than later.
I don't want that.  I like all you Floboys.
    Do better.

“He doesn’t have many great wins...”

    Meanwhile, he has wins over their most recent 1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11.

Likewise, they’ll do Carter dirty, despite having wins over their most recent 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8.
