What did you say that was false?
"It's a shame so much of their fan base has been calling for their heads."
The percentage of Iowa fans calling for their heads is somewhere between zero and miniscule. I read the HR regularly, and Brands bros are appreciated overwhelmingly.
LaxHawk174 reacted to MSU158 in Mark Perry hype as a coach. Help me understand.
Brent Metcalf is the ONLY 1 that was on that "trajectory" coming in. This line of argument is probably the biggest stretch anyone on here has used to denigrate Brands and Iowa. This argument is so inaccurate because one of the biggest knocks IS the fact that they haven't been recruiting the bluest of blue chips and HAVE been focusing on the guy that fits(ala Gable) and getting the most out of him.
Here are Iowa's Top 10 recruits under Brands: That is only 5(2 of which were recruited to VTech originally) Top 10 recruits since he took over in the 2006-2007 season.
#2-Metcalf: DNW, 1st, 2nd, 1st.
#6-Murphy: DNW-Grade issues ended up at Iowa Central.
#8-Nate Moore: A lot of issues held this guy up. A bunch of his mat issues appeared to be strength related. He was originally recruited/projected at 125. Blaming Brands is a stretch, but I guess you could.
#4-Mike Evans 1-2, 6th, 6th, 6th. Was right there in a really deep weight. Many think he should have been a Finalist his Junior year. Just ask Chris Perry.
Here are the AA's under Brands with their rankings and yearly results:
#1-Mark Perry-1st, 1st. Only the years he wrestled for Brands were included.
n/a-Falck-8th, 6th, R12. Only the years he wrestled for Brands were included. He was ranked at the top of his weight class, but I can't find exact rankings before 2005.

The top guys that left Iowa very early: #6-Murphy, #8-Nate Moore and #15 Nate Skoniecsky.
Top guys that fell short of expectations:
Top 5-A. Tsirtsis-Had a strong career but only AA'd once(prior to Brands). He went 52-17 under Brands taking 3rd and 4th at B1Gs. Went 1-2 and 2-2 at NCAA's under Brands.
#40-Dan Leclere-38-15 record. Lost out on a year(VTech transfer) and had a strong first season but fizzled at NCAA's. Never started again with Tsirtsis coming back the next season and then Marion taking 141 over.
#11-Nick Moore-75-33 record. Did not start his 1st sitting behind either St. John or Evans. Took 4th, 2nd and DNP at B1G's. Went 1-2, 2-2 and 0-2 at NCAA's.
#12-Dziewa-84-26 record. Did not start his 1st and 2nd seasons sitting behind Marion and Ballweg, respectively. Took 5th and 2nd at B1G's and went 2-2 at both NCAA's.

Yeah, but his hairline is a senior.
LaxHawk174 reacted to IronChef in does 10 AAs = top 10 finish?
The ten 8th place finishers combined for 75.5 points this past season. That would have been good for 6th place. Individual point totals ranged from 5.5 to 9.5. If all ten would have gotten 5.5 points, that would have been just enough for 10th place.

My workout partner from high school beat Reggie Wright (Four-time state qualifier and two-time champ from Proviso East, AA at Triton College, two-time AA for Oklahoma State University, Senior level tournament winner) when we were seniors and Reggie was a freshman. My friend never qualified for state, wrestled one semester in the NJCAA, and we laugh about his win every few years. Know that we laugh not at the expense of Reggie, but how their careers turned out so wildly different.

yeah I probably should have just hoofed it. I was next door to you at the Luxor, which should be renamed the Suxor, because the hotel, in fact, very much sucks.
one of my favorite moments of the Worlds was standing in line to buy beer with a guy in a Kazakhstan warm up suit. we couldn't communicate hardly at all but I think I gave him the thumbs up after he got his beer and he laughed. something about sharing a laugh over beers with a wrestling coach from Kazakhstan in Vegas just made my day.
LaxHawk174 reacted to MSU158 in Jim Zalesky vs Tom Brands
That double recruiting class garbage is so ridiculous. Do you all not remember that everyone that left to follow him lost a year of eligibility? Also, should we discount all the championships Sanderson won with Ruth and Taylor on the same team?
The simple truth is Zalesky inherited the program at its apex and it steadily declined from there(especially in dual meets). Brands took over and brought it back. However, as he was doing so 2 great recruiting head coaches took over at premiere universities in the 2 best wrestling states. That doesn't even account for OkState still being an elite power. Brands still has done very well against them in duals overall. He has also been on a very strong recruiting run.
Simply put, unless you have an agenda, I don't see how you can ignore the glaring differences between what happened under Zalesky and what has been happening under Brands.

Or you just want to twist it that way.
Cael had a funny TV interview where he was in the stands by himself and said his team all fled because the cameras were coming. I could twist that and say Cael was trying to hog the spotlight. But that would be ridiculous and untrue. It would be me trying to twist facts to fit a story I already decided to tell regardless of truth. Like you trying to twist this. Win with class. Like Cael and the entire PSU team do. Don't come trying to demean and attack one of the very few celebrations that didn't belong to you.
Brands did nothing wrong here and only those with an axe to grind are seeing something else.
