Typical wrestling culture crap. Unless you were a stud, your opinion or presence is worthless.

Isn't it free if you are a subscriber through your cable? I get ESPN3 for free with my Verizon login

And I quote - "Please, to those that are complaining at all about the NCAA tournament, get off my side!"

One of the best NCAA tournaments ever and, without a doubt, the best media coverage. ESPN provided great streaming for every session and every mat, including finals. Fans who missed any sessions can still logon and watch replays of every session and every mat, including finals. The coverage also included an 'Off the Mat' special that included Gable, Kemp, and Gibbons giving their take on each of the finals match as they happened in real time.

It isn't yet perfect, but we've come a long way and the future is looking brighter than ever.

[EDIT: The ESPN3 coverage is free for many through their cable TV, or satellite TV, or internet service provider - but isn't free for everyone.]

Snyder wrestled the whole match as did Gwiz. They were both in it the whole match and Snyder made it happen in the end. My hat's off to both of them. There is no doubt in my mind that the match will go down as one of the greats, not so much because of the actions, which was very good, but because of the story. Gwiz was on his way to being one of the storied heavyweights. Stops the returning 2x national champ. Dominates his senior season, on everyone's shortlist for a Hodge. The along comes Snyder. He was not on anyone's radar as a Gwiz challenger until he pulled his Olympic redshirt and enlisted at heavyweight. It's quite a story. And for those who like stories, it ended the way great stories usually end.

Gwiz and snyder are so far ahead of the field... So excited for that final.  Has to be the biggest heavyweight matchup of all time

Snyder is officialy my favorite wrestler in this NCAA, a takedown machine. 7 takedowns against a junior world champ should not be easy like it was.

Collica stayed plenty busy.  He moved forward, stayed in bounds, took ineffective shots, and tried to counter every time Mayes shot.  Mayes could have wrestled the circle and won, or he could have taken shots before the last 10 seconds each round.  Either way it's on Mayes that the better wrestler lost.

While we are in waiting mode, here is the area's (Cleveland State's) hypothetic all-homegrown team, the qualifiers, for 2016:

    125 1-Nate Tomasello, LJ Bentley
    133 6-George DiCamillo, 10-Johnni DiJulius
    141 1-Dean Heil
    149 11-Anthony Collica, Nick Barber
    157 16-Markus Scheidel
    165 No qualifier
    174 7-Cody Walters
184 4-Dom Abounader, Alex Utley, Andrew Romanchik
    197 11-Phil Wellington, Sam Wheeler
    285 3-Ty Walz, Billy Miller

5 fewer qualifiers than last year's #1 team, that put up 101.5 points in the NCAAs, of which 89.0 counted for "team" scoring, and had 5AAs.

Can they win again or will they get slayed by Pitt (or someone else)?

This season NC State took down Iowa, Minnesota, AND Oklahoma state.  Rewind the clock back to 2011 the year before Popilizo takes over.  Penn state is starting its run, but prior to that Iowa Minnesota and Oklahoma State have combined for the previous TWENTY TWO national titles in a row.  Other than Darrion Caldwell NC State has not had an AA since 1996.  Four years later and NC State beats all 3 of those programs in one season and has four guys in the top 10.  Utter Insanity.

Never in a million years would I have predicted this program to have so much success so fast.  This has to be the quickest and most dramatic improvement of a non-traditional powerhouse program ever.  When combined with what he did at binghamton I'm convinced Popalizio is a wizard

It does happen and should happen more often. The intent of the rule is to not have guys "hang on" just to get riding time. They need to be actively working to turn their opponent. You can't turn a guy - in most cases - when your hands are below his butt. Furthermore, check page 120 of the rule book:

"If the offensive wrestler moves one hand above the buttocks of the defensive wrestler and improves his position, moves his hold back up above the buttocks of the defensive wrestler, or releases the hold and the referee stops his count and then the offensive wrestler immediately positions both hands back down below the buttocks, this is considered an obvious stalling tactic and the referee shall immediately call the offensive wrestler for stalling."   "If the offensive wrestler attempts a series of dropping down below the buttocks, moving back up and quickly attempting to initiate action and then dropping back down below the buttocks and moving up above the buttocks again, the referee has the option to determine that this is a stalling tactic and shall immediately call the offensive wrestler for stalling."

Let me follow up and propose that the first incident is OK for a five count, but any repeats should be a TWO count.

You title the thread that the stalling rule is a problem and then proceed to give us a perfect written description of a wrestler stalling.

OfficialObserver got a reaction from JBluegill133 in So you want to push the action?
There are some current rule change proposals on the docket that are interesting and that I personally am a fan of. In no particular order here are a few:
    1. 3 points for first takedown of the match
    2. Free escapes after restarts - no points awarded to man being let go
    3. Greater rewards for nearfall - more points
    4. No riding time point unless a nearfall is earned

I would like to see automatic stall calls if neither man scores in the first period regardless of action taking place and scrambles. That way it takes a bit of the onus off the official.
