The whole idea that Nolf is a chump is absurd. Unless you fall over in pain and hear something go crack you just don’t know how bad it is. And a great deal of the time it’s nothing. But this poster wants Nolf to forfeit them and there and give it to Cenzo. If that had happened half the gym would have gone bonkers.

Suriano VS Garrett was a great match of for no other reason than Suriano borrowed Garrett’s singlet and then repeatedly wiped his bloody nose on it.

Wow. What the heck just happened ? We’ve got to be thinking of Gross as a serious contender if he can hold the weight.

I expected Lewis to win too. I thought between his gold medal in jr worlds and his NCAA title he was ready for senior level prime time.

The fact is that beating someone at a non worlds event isn’t the same. The fact that DT ultimately beat Yazdanni doesn’t invalidate the comments after the World Cup. Here’s two eighties classics by way of example: Jim Scherr lost repeatedly to Maharbek Khadartsef over his career. He beat him once, in the World Cup. Chris Wilson beat Fadzaev a few times, once I’m the World Cup. He never won worlds. Bottom line is that until DT won worlds it was legit to say “that’s great but Yaz gassed and it wasn’t the worlds”. DT proved the World Cup wasn’t a fluke. He didn’t prove the comments were dumb.

This is like arguing over which is the best fruit, apples or oranges.

Snyder has beaten world champs in Sadulaev and Gadisov. Cox is a two time world champ but it’s at a non Olympic weight and at the worlds in my view the best guy he beat was Karimi who isn’t a world champ. He beat Dake and Taylor but they are both naturally two and one weights (at least) below him.
I want to know what weight Cox goes for the Oly trials. Whichever weight he goes he will have to beat a tough world champ domestically to make the team and then he will have to (most likely) beat an even tougher world champ to win. Should he do that, at any weight, I’d say he’s the best.

I think Lee is such a super talent that when he hits his stride in senior worlds - if he has an injury free and issue free run - he will dominate. But those are some big ifs.

He might do what Snyder did and compete in FS during the season.  But if he just wrestles his regular folkstyle season he can still have success in the Olympic trials.  Cox is the latest example in 2016 and there have been plenty of examples before that.  Just ask Kevin Jackson. He was a 3X Gold medalist who was lost the 96 Olympic team spot to a graduating senior.

Wow. Amazing article. I hope more people take the time to come read it and comment. The article is full of insights and definitely makes a strong case that Sad was off his game in 2018. I recall that Snyder said he just got caught last year and it happens. I admire him not making excuses and look forward to a rubber match. That said after watching the key highlights from Sad’s 2018 run, I think it’s a lot more than Snyder just got caught. Yes he did get caught and the match didn’t have to end in a fall so quickly but Sadulaev was bringing so much serious heat I think that Snyder was going to have his hands full the whole match.

I heard he has his right leg amputated and has a wooden leg now. Solid Oak, stained black so Zain won't know if he is wrestling a black guy or a white guy and if going for a low single he'll get a handful of splinters. Head games to confuse Zain as he comes onto the mat wearing dreadlocks and singing to the beat of a Zydeco band - and a team of former U.S. Supreme Court law clerks filming the matches ready to yell "I Object" to any calls that don't go his way.
To top it off Koll will be there in drag wearing 9 inch heels dressed like Dolly Parton singing at the top of his voice in falsetto to influence the refs.

Does it mean you are more religious than the next guy just because you answer every question with “I will win if the Lord Jesus my savior wants me to win. I’m humbled by his glory and except whatever he has in store for me.”? I think this thread is a good one but I think the real question is more like “are top wrestlers more vocal about the faith.

Feel free to disagree with me but I think there’s a certain lack of humility in using every second of camera time to make sure no one forgets just how damn much you love Christ. To me it ends up seeming like shameless self-promotion (look at me; I’m a world beater wrestler but humble before Christ) in their absolutely refusal to admit any part in their success. To the vanquished the message is  ”you just because God loves me me than you.”

BigTimeFan got a reaction from TBar1977 in Anything from arbitration?
Well said. I think that the way it should and does work is that coaches should be allowed to vigorously advocate for their athletes through any and all means allowed by the rules. There should be neutral adjudicators who decide which challenges, which appeals and so forth get a hearing and then neutral judges to hear the outcomes. That’s the setup. Then there has to be an overlay of yet other people who work to ensure that the parties are all sticking to the script. Coaches should not be allowed to abuse their rights to challenge and appeal. The judges must be reviewed to insure they are indeed neutral and not being influenced. And so on. The system will end up pretty good but from time to time there will be major issues.
In this case the system at matside, in my view, failed us by allowing an extremely aggressive challenge to be heard and the overturn the initial result of the match. I have no quibble with Penn State attempting their challenge. It’s simply not their job to determine the legitimacy of their own challenges. They had their rationale, no matter how much of a stretch it was. I think the decision to the reverse the outcome was extremely odd. Even so system still worked to some degree. The appeals process allowed Yianni to get a hearing and now he and Zain get to wrestle again.
Last point: one poster said the result still favored Zain because he went from losing the match (the original outcome) to having to re-wrestle the match. I agree. But this simply means that the arbitration’s conclusion was consistent with “we aren’t sure who won” as opposed to “Yianni won”. I’m not sure I agree with that.
