XiXiTiger got a reaction from ionel in Cowboy Challenge
Hart seemed pretty cautious, only taking one real shot before OT and didn't quite finish it. Looking at Ervin's wrestlestat page, he seems to keep matches low scoring and is getting better too (up from #146 last year). Beat #25 Spann 5-1 and lost to Kaid Brock 12-7 a few weeks ago.

Actually got a chuckle from that tweet. Probably because the first thing it brought to mind was Ogre.

XiXiTiger got a reaction from gallison in Mizzou Lineup
I agree and it looks like both guys will face enough top guys to have a strong resume. O'Toole should hit Franek (NDSU) this weekend and Carr (ISU) and Teemer (ASU) on Jan 17th. He'd also have Sheets (OkSt) and Dellavecchia (Rider; twice including MACs) later in the season. Depending on the ranking service, that's 2 guys in the top 5 and 3 more in the top 15.
Elam should get Noah Adams (WVU), Tanner Sloan (SDSU; this weekend), Bulsak (Clarion at MACs), Norfleet (ASU), Coleman (ISU), and Holschlag (UNI). The number 1 guy, another top 7 guy, and 4 more in the top 15.
Hopefully it doesn't happen, but COVID or injury will probably cause some of these guys to miss each other. On the flip side, maybe there will be fewer 'ducks' to protect seed with so few available matches.

XiXiTiger reacted to nhs67 in Mizzou Lineup
My guess at what the lineup will look like, with no injuries, come MACs:
125: Brown
133: Schmitt
141: Edmond-Rumor is the Edmond is nursing an injury and wrestled anyways. If he gets healthy, I think he wins the spot by conferences)
149: Mauller
157: O'Toole-This guy has the moxxy to win 157 this year. Yes I know that means beating Deakin and Hidlay.
165/174: Jacques/Mocco-I think the winner between the two takes 165 and the other ends up going up. Keep in mind that both of these guys have been wrestling 74kg for freestyle, so 174 isn't too out of the question for them.
184: Kent-Rumblings are that they know Kent at 184 this year is what is best for the team. That doesn't mean he won't drop to 174 next season.
197: Elam
285: Elam
I think that lineup could get them 8-10 qualifiers this year, providing they still bring 33 to NCAAs(how many are they bringing, btw?).
I also think this lineup easily wins the MAC.

It'll be fun watching Rocky Elam and O'Toole rise up the weight class rankings this season.

Sounds like O’Toole will be at 157 if he beats Jacques (I think he will). He wrestled 70kg at juniors and, per FRL, B Smith indicated it will be Jacques or O’Toole.

"Funky" Ben Askren was pretty appropriate.

Eierman majored him 12-4 at NCAAs the only time I can remember they wrestled. Until today.

XiXiTiger got a reaction from spladle08 in Askren/JB pic
Askren's bracket in 2006 had Herbert (3, 2, 1, 1) and Mark Perry (2, 3, 1, 1) in it. His bracket in 2007 had Keith Gavin (NCAA champ and world team member) and Steve Luke (NCAA champ). Including Pendleton, he's got folkstyle wins against two 2-timers (one of them a hodge trophy winner). None of the guys you listed have resumes like that.

True freshmen that beat Gfeller, Thompson, Martin and everyone else he faced (not named Degen).

XiXiTiger got a reaction from Housebuye in Mizzou -> MMA article on ESPN
I've heard Askren make several comments over the years about Perry ducking him, but I thought it was because Askren didn't like Iowa. Didn't know that Perry actually called out Askren in WIN magazine. Also, good story in there about Smith's nervousness before Askren-Herbert and Askren just goofing off and working on his fro.
Pretty amazing that there were three future MMA stars in Mizzou's room at the same time.

XiXiTiger reacted to tigerfan in RTC's - Wild, Wild West
It's not really about whether or not RTC's are a "good" thing or not. The evidence of our performance at the world level strongly suggests that RTC's have improved our overall success. That is clearly a good thing. The problem is the gray areas between RTC's and NCAA regulations. Since there are so many gaps, those who have tremendous assets can exploit those gaps to a far greater degree and produce disproportionate success in the short term. That success creates a legacy that might be impossible to overcome once the regulations catch up and the gaps are closed. Kinda like a pyramid scheme, if you don't get in early, you'll never get rich. The rich are getting massively richer while the rest struggle to keep up and their struggle will that much more difficult once/if regulations level the field. In the interview, Clemsen states that in the last 4 or 5 years, Missouri has the 4th best average NCAA finish in the country, yet I doubt they've ever raised more than 100k in any given year for their RTC. The disparity of wealth is huge between #1 and #4, yet alone the other 70 programs. What is the point of limiting scholarships if not to provide a level playing field? If that limit is circumscribed by RTC's, bad things are going to happen. It's just a matter of time.

XiXiTiger got a reaction from BLT in ESPN reporting on wrestling referee incident
1032004 posted an article on page 1 that clears up at lot of the confusion. Team was informed before the season regarding the rule and a couple kids (including this one) were specifically warned that they needed to cut their hair or get a cover that attaches to headgear.
Sounds like the kid was also warned the weekend before, but allowed to wrestle with improper cover. IMO, the wrestler and his coach had plenty of time to get it right before this match.

For those that want some more in depth PA talk, Mason Beckman and Tristan Warner have been doing the PA Power College podcast for a few months now. Though college is in the name, they talk a lot of high school as well. Not the full "entertainment" from Askren or FLO, but they have good stories and thoughts on everything.

XiXiTiger got a reaction from krippler in OkSt vs Mizzou, Sat 1/27
That ref also gave Heil a 3 count to get up before calling the pin.
Erneste should’ve picked top in the 3rd. Big mistake. Question. In that Brock/Erneste match, Brock let Erneste up and the ref called the escape before he turned to face him. So Brock immediately shot as he was turning and of course took him down. I thought Erneste should’ve been given a chance to face Brock before the escape was called? Any thoughts?

XiXiTiger got a reaction from Gantry in Who makes the podium besides PSU and tOSU
Agree with this, Lewis almost always gets the first takedown, he just seems to have gas tank issues. Pretty sure he got a couple takedowns against BoJo at the 2016 NCAAs. Took Isaac Jordan down in the first period at the All Star last year. He nearly had IMar taken down in the first last year and it looked like he had him pinned when the ref inexplicably called a stalemate. He got the first takedown against Joseph at NCAAs and was in control of the match until the 3rd period when he was totally spent. Couldn't even run away with less than 20 seconds to go (hadn't been warned yet).
Hopefully he won't have the same gas tank issues at 174, as I think he will be pretty competitive with the top 3.

Mizzou has good OOC matches with the Illini, OkSt, Cornell, North Carolina, VT, Virginia, and Northern Iowa. No tOSU this year though and no Scuffle.
