Interesting that they seem to take Conor McGregor's insults seriously. Apparently their culture very much values an earnest sense of honor.

Katie got a reaction from 2td3nf in Seeding at the world championships: a retrospective
A few days ago, when the draws started rolling in, there was a lot of dissatisfaction at the seeding criteria. I thought it would be interesting to see how accurate the seeds actually were.
Based on my research, 14 of 31 seeded wrestlers earned medals, for a success rate of about 45%.  That's not bad, given that guys like Yazdani and Sadulaev were not seeded.
Here is where I am getting my numbers:
57- 1 of 4 seeded wrestlers medaled 61- 2 of 4 seeded wrestlers medaled 65- 1 of 3 seeded wrestlers medaled (Bekbulatov did not compete here) 70- 1 of 2 seeded wrestlers medaled (Kurbanaliev & Muslimov did not compete here) 74- 1 of 3 seeded wrestlers medaled (Kaisanov did not compete here) 79- 3 of 4 seeded wrestlers medaled 86- 2 of 3 seeded wrestlers medaled (Naifonov did not compete here) 92- 0 of 2 seeded wrestlers medaled (Ebrahimizivlaei & Sadulaev did not compete here) 97- 1 of 3 seeded wrestlers medaled (Baitcaev did not compete here) 125- 2 of 3 seeded wrestlers medaled (Kartavyi did not compete here)

    **CORRECTION**
So according to Jason Bryant, the men will go before womens finals, so Snyder/Sad should be around 12:15ish Central, would have the popcorn ready by noon.

The finals have been running just over 2 and 1/2 hours start to finish with all four weights the last couple days. They are the second weight to wrestle, so around 12:15ish Central time I would guess.

Bonne finally gets it done at nearly 36 years of age. He competed once internationally between the ages of 20 to 28 and it is well known Cuba struggles with finances and often cannot send a full team overseas. He was stuck behind Chamizo and some other great wrestlers for a while but persevered and got it done.
One of the most exciting wrestlers in the sport:

Congratulations to Spain and Taimuraz Friev for their first ever world level medal.
Friev placed 5th in 2013 at 84 kg and was a 2016 Olympian at 74 kg, as well as a Russian Nationals finalist in 2010 at 74 kg.
Friev is from North Ossetia and has a slick style I have enjoyed watching over the years.

In the semis, I was a bit nervous because Kurugliev had a decent wheel kick. But Taylor came back surgically and did exactly what he needed to do. He was nails.
I'm very glad to see Taylor in the finals.  He's been at this for a while, and never gave up.

The Russian (Sidakov) is basically a 5 seed in a 32-man bracket.  JB is the 4 seed.  So they could meet in the quarters. (JB could then meet Chamizo in the semis.)
Apparently JB moved up to the 4 seed after the 3 seed (Kaisanov of Kazakhstan?) withdrew.

People are annoyed for two reasons:
    1) We are one of the few countries where we have to pay to watch the world championships.
    2) For those of us who are only interested in watching men's freestyle, it's annoying to have Greco and women's wrestling bundled into the package.
