While we are semi-off topic, William and Mary adding wrestling back would be great too.

Back to the point - good for Averett. Not too far from Greensboro College, another new D3 program.

NotReady reacted to maligned in Mongolia preliminary entries
The preliminary entries for each nation for Mongolia are posted under "results and videos" then "participants" in each weight class tab here:

    https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/1st-og-world-qualifying-tournament

    Some quick observations:

Freestyle 65kg is stacked, as expected.  It doesn't seem that any nation is leaving a big name out of the mix.  30 nations are preliminarily entered, meaning the two bracket halves should be quite balanced.

Freestyle 86kg seems very navigable.  The biggest potential name, Aldatov of Ukraine, is not entered.  All in all, there's no name that I'd clearly pick to win a match over Cox.  Zvirbulis, Ismanov, and Ceballos are all tough, for example, but wouldn't be clear favorites over Cox, in my opinion.  Vereb of Hungary is another tough one listed, but that's an error since he already qualified.  In fact, of the 25 nations listed that are really going to be there, I would only expect 10 of their reps to present real matches for Cox.  That means he's essentially trying to be Top 3 out of 11 "real" contenders, rather than 25.
With 25 nations, we'll see unbalanced brackets with about 9 on the top and 16 on the bottom.  If Cox gets into that top bracket, he could have a very, very navigable half-bracket.

If I'm Storniolo, I've already reached out to Tony. Wonder if Illinois has room?

Also, wonder what drove Brands to make that offer to Dennis. Best wishes, middle finger to VT, a mix of the two?

Who teaches "grappling" - the same gyms where people train UFC?

Find a BJJ instructor that wrestled free/folk/greco or did judo.

Sambo is also totally legit as a combined grappling art, although most people in the US assume sambo is like 100% leglocks, which is not how its done in the Former Soviet Union.

Back to the point of the original post, wrestling needs to ask itself why jiu jitsu is doing such an astronomically better job getting and keeping people on the mat outside of the 15-22 year old male demographic. Even judo in the united states beats wrestling in this sense. Or why even those close to UWW fail to be engaged by FILA Grappling or other submission styles, such as catch.

Judo had to ban certain grips, limit times for others, and ultimately ban leg grabs for a reason. Not to say jacket wrestling doesn't develop extremely valuable skills for MMA, but Judo is extremely artificial at this point.

FILA Grappling is a joke, as is Catch Wrestling. They are to BJJ what Cornish Wrestling is to Freestyle.

Episode 11 has been released. It is back to an interview format and it feature 3x All-American and 2x NCAA Runner-Up Jon Trenge. Jon is very open about his wrestling career (Eye Injuries, Vertias Movie, Hahn Match, "Anger Management" and also has a lot to say about coaching at the youth and high school level. I always say it everyone I have an interview, but I feel like it's the best one so far.

It's not unreasonable to assume Snyder will be around for 2020 and 2024 - even at 2028 he would "only" be 32. Plenty of time to develop his top game, especially when you consider how much he has improved over the last 12 months.

Same, but I've had Comcast for a long time and been able to use multi-screen before. Bummer.

Absolutely amazing to see Kyle Snyder in action. He must have been giving up 50 pounds to the heavyweight from F&M. F&M started tough, nearly hitting a foot sweep, but I don't think he's ever had to try to keep up with a pace like Snyder's before.

Kolat was pretty successful running an after practice/weekend/offseason school for kids. For adults, it would take some tinkering, but it is possible. Adult Judo schools work to a certain extent, with Judo being another Olympic grappling style. Some boxing and more so Thai Boxing programs have instituted rank structures for the reasons you indicated although neither of those sports traditionally have one.

Just kind of surprising to me that we have seen school and government funded programs suffer cuts in funding or be terminated, but not much response in terms of private sector solutions. It would be nice to see folks think out of the box.

NotReady got a reaction from Coach_J in Decision to expel ex-UTC wrestler Corey Mock reversed in court
CD did not lose his job because he spoke out. He lost his job because he made incendiary comments on a controversial topic on company time, in his company office, while fielding a mediocre at best product, in a manner that blurred the line between what CD as a person was saying and what CD the head UNC wrestling coach and representative of a large state university was saying.

Gonna be pretty awkward if Marable makes the team with potential teammates and training partners taking such a strong public stand against the situation.

I think it's a tough situation, and empathize with Kolat's frustrations. Especially now, when you have to look back and wonder if you had stuck around a year. No disrespect to Campbell, but it's not UNC.

While I don't question Scott's abilities on the mat and trust his coaching is great as well, that's quite a leap professionally to assume the responsibilities as a head coach that has to contend with an AD and other university officials.

Is Erisman the only assistant there at the moment? Wonder if they bring in someone that can handle the administrative aspect?

Scott Justus-VA Tech, beats Hahn twice, undefeated #1 seed, loses in the first round, never AAs becomes a Navy SEAL whodoesn't know how to swim before he goes to boot camp, drowns during one of the swims, is revived, jumps back into the water and finishes the swim. All because he "never did anything with his life". Exact words before he left Blacksburg. I'm honored to have wrestled with him and proud of who he is and what he stands for.
