I wrestled in high school, 112 lbs. The city where I'm from was never a huge wrestling hubbub, and I was never particularly good tbh. Never won my section (which was just my city LOL), so I never went to State as a wrestler. My last year, I injured my neck pretty bad in practice, and that took out half my season. The chiropractor said I had the neck of a 40 year old in a car accident, LOL.

Still, I fell in love with it and what it taught me. My coaches were fantastic guys and I still look up to them. I coached up until last year for my high school for about 4 years. I do boxing now abroad and love it, but damn do I miss rolling on the mats too.

Interesting to read some of these, including DF's historically accurate biography.

Started at 5 and won my first tournament then a lot more in my life. I have a big box of medals and ribbons. Never look at them anymore.

Here's what matters - high school on.

98 - School district rules prevented me from being a starter even though I was the best wrestler at 98 and 105. Freshmen could not take the place of a Senior on a varsity roster. 112 guy was much bigger and better. 3X state champ. I could hang but not beat him. The coach made sure to work with the parents of the 98 and 105 so I could get enough varsity team points to get a letter. Some consolation prize that was. Still sore about that season.
105 - Cut 28 pounds to make this weight. Was the worst year of my life. The roof of my mouth peeled and was never the same again. Visine was my best friend.
    112
    119

    2 years 118 and 2 years 126.

Lots of weight cutting, most years around 20 pounds. Hundreds of miles of open road running in crappy shoes. My hips feel every one of those miles.

I never tell my specific results for personal reasons.

4 years high school coach 15-ish as a zebra. Lots of years as a youth coach in my kid's clubs.

Now I'm just an aging wrestling junkie limping slightly and shifting my weight from side to side when I stand.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, I was about to go out for wrestling when my friend who had a couple years experience told me I wouldn't like it because it's not like pro wrestling, I was under the assumption it was similar to PW.He told me about the weight classes and points and how the matches are 6 minutes, etc....I didn't quite grasp the points thing and I seriously said to him "well I'll just lie about my weight(was a tub of goo back then) and 6 minutes is nothing,..and then i asked him sincerely how many points are camel clutches and elbow smashes(he had already informed me that body slams were a no-no), he grew annoyed and showed me some of the stuff they do in practice...hated all of it.
Then had to do wrestling in gym class for a few weeks and gained an appreciation for it. A year later, wanting to lose some weight I  asked my buddy what a typical workout in practice was like and i modified what he told me and did a workout after school everyday, dieted and lost about 50 pounds in my jr of high school...and while doing all that everyday I imagined it  probably wasn't 1/10th as hard as a wrestling practice, so I gained further respect. I was always obsessed with stats since i was 6 or 7, memorized the back of baseball/football cards. At some point I lost interest in those  sports and  I've been just a fan or Wrestling and enjoy looking at stats, brackets etc....nerd stuff.

So the bow and arrow should be PD and all arm bars since they inflict pain to the defensive wrestler until they give way for the offensive wrestler to improve his position? Isn’t that the same as the over torqued knee? I’m all for the safety of the wrestlers and hate seeing anyone get hurt. I do not think any rule changes need to be in place now that aren’t already there. If there were rules that prevent any torque on any joints, what would be left in wrestling? Refs, in general, do a good job protecting kids and you do see plenty of stalemates or PDs called.

Go watch all of his matches while winning his 2nd national title and he doesn't go to that strategy at all.  He has scored TDs off his own shots on every top guy in the country the last 2 years.  This is not a rule change issue.  The field got much better at 141 and that has an effect.  But it's more than that too.  He didn't lose to Ian Parker today because the field got worse or because the rules changed.  Something is clearly wrong with him.  It doesn't look to be a physical issue, but rather HEW.

The seeding committee does some strange things. I’d actually be shocked if they don’t make an undefeated Zacherl a top 4 seed.

125 Lee- Getting healthier and more experience still and he's already beaten a previous champ who many favor this year.
133 Gross-  He seems the most consistent at this weight and even challenged himself by bumping
141 Heil-  I wanna pick Yianni, but I think Heil's experience helps him in March.
    149 Retherford
    157 Nolf
165 IMart- Cenzo is going to be there, but I think IMart gets his revenge.k
174 Zahid-  I've become a big fan of this kid and don't think a headgear pull saves Hall this year.
184 Martin- I think he now understands the strength and conditioning he needs to beat Bo
197 Moore- I think he'll feel the pressure of earning team points at the upper weights and pull a win after Martin's.
285 Seriously?  He ain't missing weight, so unless he picks up some funky skin infection I don't see anybody here but Snyder.

Oh I’m not arguing... I don’t know who Michigan has at their rtc. I know jordan Oliver is at asu. With Zeke Jones as the coach. Plus Sunkist kids is based there and I think they get the SKK athletes there for camps. But yes he is from Michigan and that a huge factor. I like the kid and just think ASU would be better for him in my opinion. But, I don’t know anything because I’m a Wyoming fan and we need a 141 for next year so maybe he should come here!

I think the problem is with small children being specialized. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a freshman or sophomore in high school choosing one sport and specializing in it. Kids know how good they are by that age. There are some that are athletic enough to be special at a few sports and they will play those sports because they are standouts. Nothing wrong with high school kids choosing just one sport to specialize in because they’re clearly better at it.

I’m pretty sure kids that love competition and want to wrestle the best guys in the country will look at this and see that bono and branch will give them the opportunity. Maybe if SDSU’s starter at 141 was any good this never would have materialized. They bumped 141 but gave an opportunity for the back up at 133

I disagree. High profile wrestlers will be attracted to smaller programs like SDSU when they see that programs and coaches are willing to take chances like this, which will in turn attract more recruits.
