USA Wrestling - Statement by Thomas Gilman, June 12, 2017
"I meant no disrespect when referencing Japanese wrestler Rei Higuchi. The context of my comment was intended to pay respect to one of the top wrestlers in the world, but my choice of words contradicted that message. It was a mistake and I apologize."

Well stated apology Mr. Gilman. You can't win anything with a politically correct style... wrestling doesn't have safe spaces.

Out of curiosity - Have either Cael or Taylor issued an apology yet for their behavior?

Maybe both can learn a little lesson in class from Thomas Gilman? ;-)

I heard rumblings from when he was in HS that his life consisted of training, drinking, and getting high. Obviously, he had some growing up to do (whether those rumblings were true or not) and truly hope this is the start. I had very high hopes for him. Kid is a rare talent who, assuming he has his head on straight, can make a nice career for himself in spite of his past. It's certainly not too late. I wish him the best. I love a good underdog story.

I meant no criminal record. If we're going to disqualify kids from D1 for smoking weed, skipping practice, and getting their knobs licked a little, entire rosters would be decimated. I'm not trying to be an apologist. But there is a lot of history of programs taking on kids with far worse problems, some of them criminal.

My thoughts exactly.  If there is one difference that I'm beginning to see in our absolute "best" wrestlers, it's the level of intensity/tenacity.  It's really beginning to separate, in my eyes, the past few years.  Examples:
    * Snyder:  What makes him so good (besides his TD abilities and defense) is his motor.  It... just... won't... stop... Even with bruised ribs at NCAA's, against guys 20-50lbs heavier, his motor never stopped.  Attack attack attack attack... this then lends itself to...
    * Taylor:  In his post Open interview, he kept stating how he "wants" to be relentless.  I truly think the top guys are seeing this behavior exhibited by Snyder, and are now emulating even moreso... which leads me to #1 emulator...
    * Kollin Moore:  His motor is incredible.  He was NOT a blue chip recruit, and his RS year, he took some lumps.  This past year, came out guns blazing, looking like a "mini Snyder", and kept the pace to a 3rd place finish, all the while pushing Cox (that 3rd period was incredible) and beating Pfarr at Big 10's.  It's the motor that appears to be different, which leads me to...
    * Stieber:  He's never out of the match, and his motor doesn't stop.  Even when he looks like he's about ready to pass out... wham... last second TD to win at the WC, multiple times... which leads me to...
    * Zain/Nolf:  Both have motors that seemingly go on forever, scoring whenever possible... which leads me to NaTo...
    * NaTo:  Still not the "top" guy by any means, but is developing the same kind of motor that is apparently being taught at BOTH tOSU and PSU

(Notice:  My list above only lists tOSU and PSU guys... why?  because of that same "vein" of approach/attack).

Last second add:  Burroughs:  When he was winning everything... what was his MO?  relentlessness...

Do "others" have "motors" per se?  Sure, but not on the level of these guys are exhibiting I would suggest.  Heil?  nah... Hall?  not yet.  Zahid?  not yet.

Go ask Derek St John, Mike Evans, and Nick Moore who David Taylor is, I'm sure they'd be able to make an introduction to "her" for you.

I know we have been talking about Michigan and their potential for years. But next year could be the best McFarland has ever had. Just going off of potential, they would be favorites any other year. They will need Penn State to falter but I can see this team winning it all.

    125-Assad (Qualifier)
    133-Micic (Finalist)
    141-Fisher (Qualifier)
    149-Hall (Qualifier)
    157-Pantaleo (Finalist)
    165-Massa (Finalist)
    174-Amine (Top 4)
    184-Abounader (Finalist)
    197-Beazley (Top 6)
    285-Coon (Finalist)

This team could potentially have 7 AA and 5 finalist/NC. I know Penn State has more fire power but you know that upsets/injuries happen and Michigan could have a magical season.
