Most of his set ups from ties are “slicker” type elbow and drag stuff. He doesn’t really have a under-hook, club or power set up. From a pure offense standpoint. He either dives from space or relies on slick stuff in close

I said this in a longer post earlier but I think that Greco will always suffer even if the academy’s improve it because it simply won’t be available to average kids and you won’t get late bloomers or non academy kids like a Burroughs or Kolin Moore. It’s also not helped by the fact that I know plenty of coaches who may not be “high level” but can teach solid basic fundamentals in folk/free. I know “maybe” 3/4 Greco

Dake gets a title at 74 KG.
He is going to keep moving down in weight as he gets younger and secure titles consecutively at 70 KG and 65 KG.
The reverse of what he did in his former NCAA life.
    Good job, Benjamin Button!

You see what I did there.
But also, seriously, Fix looked incredible.

The 10 years at the job qualifier makes this a lot tougher, especially because a lot of the usual suspects (Oregon State, Indiana, Michigan State) actually did the dang thing and replaced their long time coaches. I'm struggling to think of a P5 school that realistically has high expectations with a long time lame duck coach, which I think is great for the sport.

Eh, I’ve always been neutral about Fix fan wise.
As far as rooting for him at worlds.. He clearly was caught using the exact PED that someone in his position would use and then offered the lamest and cliche excuses to try and cover it up.  That’s what makes it particularly obvious to me. He didn’t pop for a random banned substance. He popped for the exact substance that he would need to most greatly benefit his wrestling and the weight he wrestled.
If he’s clean and staying clean. Go USA. However, I’ll always have what he did in back of mind
btw. Amphetamines can help weight cutting immensely. While I know he’s prescribed (insert ADHD amphetamine here) for other reasons. I had several teammates in college who used the extra sweating as a side benefit.

JO: feels like that poor Chinese girl who was stripped of a gold medal because she took ibuprofen. Punishment did not fit the crime.

Kamal Bey actually had a coach that knew about and pushed greco(and could “mostly” keep him under control, but that’s a whole separate issue)
The real problem is that there are very few coaches that know Greco and fewer opportunities to do it. Ignorance and lack of access.. not fear are the issue.

I have a kid who joined as a sophomore and later in season. So first move he learned was a body lock. And double unders. Because that’s what we’re doing that day and we actually rep it. He was hooked and loves Greco. Hates attacking legs. Whether or not he goes full time will depend on whether or he both locks in and starts improving. The point being, if he joins any of other 5-6 hs he could have instead of mine. Even if he wrestled. He’d have never learned what Greco was. Not because the other coaches are “bad” but because they never wrestled or were even actually exposed to Greco.
LJB. I get it’s probably annoying that not many kids want to be practice dummies for your kids. That’s not the same thing as people not joining “out of fear”

I never said my kid would wrestle in college. In fact. If he does go post hs it’ll probably be Greco.

Sigh, stating with complete sincerity that the reason a lot of kids aren’t doing Greco is fear.. is so wannabe macho and deliberately ignorant of realities on the ground.. that it really makes me wish you were trolling.

You'd be easier to take seriously if you dropped the wannabe tuff guy stuff out of the routine

Though it reminds me of what a couple of people have mentioned about Ossetians not getting the respect they deserve vs Dagestan. Everyone always talks and gush’s about Dagestan and ignores Ossetia despite the fact that Ossetia has more medals

You’d be easier to take seriously if 90% of your responses actually were about wrestling and not self aggrandizing. You only give real responses when pressed and only then reluctantly. You also will repeatedly make a point and only back down when directly called out. The discussion over what athletes are in Greco being a primary example
Lol. Congrats to your son. Not really sure how that actually helps Greco overall. Since you have the backwards hat view of not believing burnout and peaking our athletes too young is a thing. as well as wanting wrestling to stay a niche sport.

And if you are going to be a dad helping fund some camps and training opportunities. Good on ya. That makes you a valuable supporter. I’d focus on that as your way of being seen as legitimate. Your current routine isn’t cutting it

The truth about what athletes go into Greco has elements of both sides. I know several athletes and/or their coaches who went on the Greco ladder because they had much much more of a chance to be competitive.. not because they preferred Greco. There is also your Kamal Beys who wanted and went after the Greco path and had the coaching to do it.

As things stand right now. The amount of the former outnumbers the latter. Anyone who would deny that is not objectively looking at our ladder.

additionally. The Greco enthusiasts in this country(especially the outsiders who come into wrestling and try to use being Freco guys as their way attempting legitimacy. LJB is not unique at all) double down on the. “We’re the tuff style!!!! Roarrrrr!!! We macho!!” As their way of responding to criticism.

That attitude only hurts our Greco team because instead of actually working on getting better at wrestling Greco. They respond by saying “well yeah least we do da man Macho sport” and focus of being “tuff” not on getting better. Especially with Lindland as head coach.

The most technical and best Greco coaches treat the toughness involved as simple what is expected and necessary to be successful and dont wax poetic about “being tuff”. None of the best coaches do. Or they’re at least intelligent about it

The current ruleset for Greco seems to be a little bit better as far as action and scoring. I’m pretty sure they’re different rules than 2017.

Im perfectly willing to let Greco be sacrificed if it saves Olympic wrestling. But as things are. We should support it enough that we aren’t an embarrassment as a team
