That's what I was thinking. Especially since he ended up retearing the surgically repaired one against Mueller anyways so it's not a stretch to imagine that he thinks it's not worth the bother, atleast maybe not until after next year? Idk. Im a big fan so I'll cheer him on no matter what he chooses to do, but, yeah, makes me nervous.

I really wish more had this attitude to development. Or at least minimized the emphasis on kids competitions.

To be clear it’s my observation not me justifying. I actually lean that way too believe it or not. Especially with my athletes. I’m just cynical and pragmatic when it comes to evaluating things. agree that he shouldn’t need to be babysat.
Also, when you run a program for Hs kids you have to do the babysitting and teaching to one degree or another. The more successful college coaches deliberately go after kids they don’t need to babysit (for the most part, Hendricks being a clear exception) and in college+ they shouldn’t need to be.

That being said.. I do think a more.. organized and consistent approach than Lindlands would help LOL.
A decent but not great athlete, who’s a constant headache, of mine asked if he could do well in college wrestling. When I was done laughing I explained to him no college coach would put up with him the way I did unless he magically won Fargo that summer.. it got me a week of good practice out of him

The allure would be relative proximity to home, and the fact its a Big Ten School. Outside of that idk if there would be any interest from him, or for him by the admin.

Having read that article, I think John Reader would be a sneaky strong pick. He’s been coaching for a long time, was a killer in college at 174, and might be at the point of running his own program.

I also think it’s dubious he’d be the best to handle the more.. I guess “straight laced” aspects of being a head coach. Not a diss. Just not his strengths

According to some old timers, one of the reasons the RTCs gained popularity so quickly was because “allegedly”.. USA wrestling would have favorites and use the training at the OTC to scout for and give other advantages to their favorite. As well as providing more overseas opportunities.

The only person I’ve seen out that in writing is Schalle.. but many people think he is.. “off” as a person. He is not the only one I’ve heard it from though.

Take that as you will. It’s a circumstance designed for the word allegedly

How is Dake ahead of Sadulaev....?? I’m genuinely curious about this logic. I genuinely want to know if it’s anything more than fan boy ism.

If it’s because he finally beat Burroughs.. Jordan had only gotten bronze in last 2 world championships. And was at the age most pro athletes call off.. 32-33 years old.

That aside. I’d like to know how Dakes two non Olympic weight titles not only match but beat Sadulaev’s... FIVE senior golds.. one senior silver, and two cadet titles...

jp157 reacted to fullnelson in JO Weight Cut
Massive weight cuts have always occurred-K Chertow was 26 lbs over 2 days before his competition in Seoul, and it showed on the mat (one and done). Mark Shultz did cut 12 lbs in an hour in Pensacola (Remember Foxcatcher), although he did it outside the arena in the sun (not in the hallway as in the movie) with Dave pushing him hard. Akins used to do 2 IV's after weighins (when it was still legal), huge weight cutter. Agree that some guys can't do it while others thrive, obviously making a big difference in their appearance on the mat. Gene Mills said he weighed over 140 in the finals with Gonzales in the 118 NCAA finals (weigh-ins were the night before); imagine the suffering to make 114.5 (52 kg). Waiting till the last second is the ideal way to do it; Terry Brands was a master of this thinking. He'd be 10 over with less than 2 hours before weighins, but his routine was solid, getting on the air dyne and pushing as hard as he could for one hour in plastics, hood, gloves, etc and he's on weight when done. The beauty here of course is that you immediately rehydrate and you're back up to 135-36 where you were when you started the cut, keeping your size. Obviously it takes a well-conditioned athlete to pull this off, and of course you have to be hydrated to begin with. Cutting water weight at the very end is the way to do it. I just can't believe that J.O. cuts water weight in the evening; it would take much longer for rehydration to be fully assimilated after a long delay between getting down to weight and then sitting on it till weighins. Science shows after 90 min the body (if no fluids are injested) will attempt equilibrium of body fluids by going to other areas of the body for lack of fluid balance, including muscles (which will often lead to cramping).

So we have two third matches so far, both WFS.  Helen Maroulis, the greatest US women's wrestler ever in one match.  Macey Kilty, the future (along with Kennedy Blades) of women's wrestling in the other.

Need to get him on our development coaching staff soon after he finishes up his career.  He already has some smarter technique than we often see from our greco program.
