  1. Did you follow the season? Obviously not, Iowa said from the beginning that Lee was not going to compete in all of the matches and the two matches he missed was immediately prior to US Senior Nationals and the weekend after the senior nationals. Makes sense doesn't it? Glory is a good wrestler and we all wish the NCAA had occurred, but since it didn't we have to look at what the facts are--what really took place. Don't try to say that a guy that won the NCAA's in what was selected as the toughest weight at the NCAA's that year ducked someone--really? Freestyle doesn't count for the Hodge, but it does for the United States Olympic Team. Don't go there. Lee took on tougher competition at the US Senior Nationals than there would have been at the NCAA Tournament or anybody he did wrestle or would have wrestled by far, so he wasn't ducking anyone--he was trying to qualify for the Olympic Trials. I don't think we should hold it against a wrestler that was trying to balance folk style and freestyle so his team could compete for a team title when he could have taken an Olympic Redshirt and just focused on one style. Lee is 2-0 against Glory and neither was close. Glory was having a great season this year, but no one was as dominant as Lee has been with 17 bonus point wins in 18 matches and he only missed bonus by 1 point in the one match he didn't get bonus. Furthermore, the one wrestler he didn't bonus he defeated by a score of 19-3 at the Big 10's. Lee wrestles in a tougher conference etc., he beat a common opponent by bonus that Glory beat by decision and Lee's win was by far more dominant--I watched both matches. This comparison is not even close. Glory barely defeated the Lehigh wrestler.... I think it went to OT.... Really. You can't point to Glory being better this year and closed the gap, because this year Lee looks more solid than in either of the other two seasons, so he was on a roll as well. We are all sad and disappointed that the NCAA Tournament was cancelled, but to try to say that Lee did something wrong this year other than being totally dominant and also unselfish by trying to balance two styles during the same season is a reach, unfair and points to a strong connection or rationale to try to justify something that simply isn't there.
  2. Yes, but in between he took the time to wrestle in the US Senior Nationals that featured 6 former NCAA Champions in it and he won it easily. The toughest opponent you mention is 0-2 against Lee losing 17-2 and 12-6.
  3. Easy to say, but it's my opinion that Lee would have cruised against Rivera in the finals who had just been crushed my Mueller in the Semi's. What was the score of that match between Mueller and Rivera? 8-2 with 6 minutes of riding time for Mueller and then Lee dominated Mueller winning easily 5-0. Lee has proven himself the best at the NCAA Tournament and this time would have been no different. Until guys step up and win at the show they have to say "I would have, could have or should have" and all that language means is they didn't do it when it mattered the most. You can say what you want, but Lee has been untouchable at the NCAA Tournament and he looked better this year than either of the previous two. Big10fanboy is always negative on the Lee kid. I don't know why some are so focused on one wrestler unless there's a history there. As I asked before, did he beat a relative in a 6 and under tournament at some point in your past?
  4. Going to be tough to beat a football player with their fan base....
  5. The rule Rivera won on no longer exists. Are you kidding me its was stupid and if that was a hands to the face then they should call the one in OT for Rivera. Also, the out of bounds call was horrible as well. The match was horribly called. No doubt.
  6. Yes, they do call it Cadet World Championships and Junior World Championships for a reason. Despite your ongoing dislike for this young man, he is a 3X Age Group World champion in the sport of wrestling. Sorry if this bothers you.
  7. Marcus Cisero, there are a few posters on here that always take whatever shots they can at the Lee kld. It's over the top. You are also dead wrong about his state final. The poster that talked about his not being able to train wins the contest for the most accurate post. I know Coach Lebe the head coach for Franklin and he told me that Lee hurt his knee in December and didn't get on the mat again until the day he went to sectionals. He said they didn't know what to expect or if it would hold out. The issue was his conditioning. He beat DeSanto 15-0 the prior year when healthy. He didn't regress and DeSanto didn't progress that much. What an idiotic post. Even AD said in an interview that Spencer didn't feel like Spencer. MpChillin, you nailed it as well. I don't get a few of the posters on here that feel it's an absolute necessity to be critical of one particular wrester. Did he beat your kid in elementary school?
  8. I think Lee wins at 33 and 41. I also feel that had Lee wrestled Rivera at NCAA's last year he hammers him and breaks the 2-2 match tie. I also think Lee would beat Gross. It's a bad match up for Gross. He allows too many guys in on his legs and Lee is a great finisher and Gross likes to scramble to much and depends on that and Lee is very good in the scrambles. No doubt he could win the next two weights...., but this is like the Pound for Pound ranking--who really knows...., but that's my opinion.
  9. Total domination from the top position. Had him in trouble for most of the match.
  10. Congratulations to Gilman. I guess he's become our representative on the team going to Pan Ams int 57KG. Mark Perry announced it yesterday at a Hawkeye Wrestling Club Event. I hope he can qualify the weight.
  11. I stand corrected. I just saw that Christian Pyles agreed with Cary Kolat stating that this has to be fixed when coaches are gaming the system... I hope they cover it on an FRL. This was truly wrong and as Kolat stated, it will hurt other wrestlers because they will get a better seed based on bogus matches.
  12. FLO won't say a word. They have been promoting Dresser since he took the job. In the first year they had talks on FRL about ISU becoming the team in Iowa and how would the UofI handle it. Last year, every time Iowa sat a wrestler it was major news and sometimes a headline on the front of FLO. Dresser sat five guys under dubious circumstances. How is this good for the sport? The reason they used to rant about Iowa last year. How is taking half a team to a dual meet when 4 of those guys wrestled elsewhere good for the fans? FLO won't cover this the same as they did other teams and other wrestlers last year--why, I don't know. If that many guys needed matches, then someone did a horrible job planning a schedule. My concern is the way the brackets and matches gained were manipulated. If I'm a recruits family and this is how he interacts with his team and the rules, I would question the manipulative approach. This loophole needs to be changed by the NCAA, since certain coaches will do anything to manipulate winning percent for seeding. What happened to just earn it on the mat. Maybe we should interject, just earn it on the mat--by actually wrestling real matches against real opponents.....
  13. Surprised Fix lost to Gilman and then shocked about the loss to China. I expected him to win both of those matches. I don't understand people being critical of Gilman against Fix. Gilman got in on the leg a couple of times and Fix kicked away, they were good shots. Gilman was the aggressor until late in the match and Fix got busy, because he was about to lose. I agree Fix dominated the last 45 seconds. I don't understand the lack of offense in big matches going back to the NCAA tournament against Suriano. I honestly didn't think he would lose to Gilman again. The weight cut must be hitting him hard. JO seems to be getting on a roll.
  14. TBar, I guess calling me a she is another form of sarcasm and humor... The issue with Lee not traveling to Princeton was that the trip was the week prior to the Open and I'm assuming they didn't want to risk injury the week prior to qualifying for the Olympic Trials and also the fact that he was about to wrestle a different style of wrestling and they wanted him to focus on freestyle and not switch back to folk style. It was just a timing thing just as not wanting him to wrestle multiple days a week after a five match Open. If you can't interpret this dynamic then I fully understand the depth of your issues and I will become more understanding of your ongoing problems that are contributing to this lack of basic comprehension. Hang in there.
  15. Thanks, glad to know others have noticed. I have no issues with the typical conversations on a message board, but I've been reading Tbarr's critiques for years and ignored them. I won't do so moving forward.
  16. I'm watching the games as well. I love Bowl season,
  17. You can take a lesson from Spencer Lee and how he holds himself accountable. He was interviewed last week after he won the open and the guy tried to get him to call out Fix or Gilman or to say something about it's his weight and he said, that's not who I am. I don't call anyone out, I just wrestle. He has always been complimentary of his opponent and when he's lost he has never allowed anyone to make an excuse for him. Last year when his own Head Coach stated in an interview that he was dealing with some health issues and a reporter brought it up to Lee later and asked him to comment and he said no excuses, once I step on the mat, if I lose, I simply got beat, I will not make an excuse. You might want to take a lesson from a young man you have been persistent in your ongoing critiscim of and if you're going to call people out and take shots at him in a highly critical manner--then stand up and be accountable and don't hide behind a safe screen name.
  18. I'm not being critical of a young man, I'm just asking you why you have been for the past few years and you refuse to answer. I'm not piling on, just wondering what you have against Spencer Lee that has caused you to consistently be so negative over a long period of time. Let me know if you want to talk. I would love to hear your back story.
  19. Pay per view would sell out, maybe for a good charity we can make it happen.
  20. I don't take it too seriously, but your posts over the past few years have been seriously negative and pointed and I don't believe attacking these young men's character is appropriate for a message board and I don't believe it's okay to hide behind a screen name while doing so. I've been reading your posts for the past few years and just hit a tolerance level that makes me wonder what is your problem with this young men that causes you to be so consistently negative over an elongated period of time. There is not one post that demonstrates any level of positive regarding for Spencer or supporting the statement that you like him as a wrestler and a person--not one. I'm not saying that you should like him, but to be so critical of him over a span of years is also perplexing. There must be a back story--so do share.
  21. I wish I was as tough as his mom apparently is--I loved the story the NCAA told during his freshman run.
  22. You didn't answer and posted again on the same topic, so yes, I figured you were not going to answer me. If you want to call me let's talk, you can message me privately as I requested originally. I think what you've done over the years is wrong and I believe your criticism has been consistent and misguided. I truly want to find out what the back story is, because your comments have been harsh for some time now and I hit a threshold that I am not going to let go any longer.
  23. TBarr1977: You are someone that has posted numerous times on this topic and this specific post and way too many times to count in the past regarding concerns you have with Lee. Why is that? I don't see or read you taking on anybody else. I sent you a private message asking you why the focus on this one wrestler and you didn't respond. You also mix your negative shots with far more than skipping a match: you talked about a recruiting binder and a gas tank--wow, you are on a roll in being critical of this young man. I am a fan of many wrestlers and yes, I do cheer for the Hawkeyes and I love good wrestling. I also like wrestlers that provide good role models for others and I think wrestlers like Spencer and Yianni are two of those that do a good job with how they win, lose and interview. I think they are both classy well spoken young men. I am also careful to not be critical of these young men, because I don't have all of the facts nor do you or anybody else except those that are directly involved with these decisions. This is different than offering opinions regarding who is going to win or lose or projecting the future, or frustration with a a team in general--that's being a fan, but due to your constant negative banter and swipes toward this young man, I would love to know your connection and back story. Why have you have jumped on this one wrestler for numerous issues over the past few years? Are you connected to someone he is competing with or has competed with? Do you just hate Iowa wrestlers and have chosen this one to try to tear down on numerous topics over the past few years? It's easy to hide behind a screen name and be critical of a young person and attack their character. Who are you? If you want to attack someone on a consistent negative basis, please let us know who you are. Don't take shots and not stand up and be accountable--that's a lack of character. Does anyone know who TBarr1977 is? If so, please tell.
  24. Snyder wrestled like 8 total matches that year prior to NCAA's. Lee will probably wrestle 18 or 19 matches prior to the NCAA
  25. He hurt his ankle in the first period. If you listen closely to the tape you can hear him tell his coaches that he heard a pop. He was limping a little, but went back and tried to finish. I hope he's okay and it's a slight sprain or something simple that won't keep him out. He's a great wrestler and I believe he can beat Gross when they meet again.
