Scholarship limits only matter to the handful of programs that would actually give more if they were allowed, ie the cream of the crop. RTC’s made those limits, shall we say, less limiting. Now NLI money has rendered them practically irrelevant. I’m hearing that boosters are now being told to donate directly to NLI funds rather than RTC’s or schools because of the increased flexibility of that money and the corresponding lack of oversight strings attached.

Careful there. Ever see some wrestlers try to swim? That said, the physical stress pales in comparison to the mental stress, which I believe D1 wrestlers would be more likely than the general population to excel at, but by no means would guarantee success.

I think it helps to think of talent as room for improvement. The more talented or natural ability one has for a given activity, the more that person can improve with hard work and training. If you’re not talented naturally for wrestling, no amount of training will take you to the highest levels. Talent without hard work is simply unrealized potential.

I’ve watched many of his matches over the last 2 seasons and I honestly believe there’s not 197 lber out there who is superior to him from the feet. The matches he’s still losing he’s losing on the mat. If he gets mat wrestling figured out, he’ll be a title threat. Easier said than done, however.

I’d say O’Toole already did. Public talk of weight cutting notwithstanding, we all know he doesn’t pass the eyeball test for 165.

I’ve always enjoyed your posts, but you’re really earning your keep this year with your unabashed O’toole fandom.

Alan Fried gets more love and respect than any other 1x champ ever. He’s the opposite of what the OP is asking for, imho. My answer would be almost any 2x or 3xer from anywhere other than Iowa, OkSt, or more recently, PSU. Guys like Valenti, Russell, Cuvo, Krieger, Volker, and many others. Just not as many fans of those teams on the forum so they get talked about way less.

I know I have zero ability to effect any official policy change regarding this blatant cheating by certain coaches. What I can, and will, do is mercilessly heckle them from the stands if I ever get the opportunity, right up to the line of getting kicked out. The teacher in me wants to assign them a book review of John McCain’s autobiography and examine how his definition of moral courage applies to their lives. This is so reprehensible and contrary to everything amateur sports are supposed to teach young adults, it sickens me.

edit: I did reach out to the one head coach I have a personal relationship with to see if he has any ideas about what we as fans can do to apply pressure to the right people to make this stop. If he has any insight, I’ll pass it along.

"The post season is only a few days away, and the wrestlers are salty. They are ready to eat their own guts and ask for seconds. The coaches are proud to see that we are growing beyond their control. The coaching staff does not want robots. The coaching staff wants killers. The athletic director wants to build indestructible men, men without fear."

Fair enough. More info for you, I don’t know a single person who’s gotten seriously ill from any variant of Covid this entire pandemic. Must not be too serious.

The vast majority of deaths have been old people or those with significant comorbities, correct? How many of those people would have died in the last 2 years anyway? Of the tiny percentage of young, healthy, people of reproductive age that have died from Covid, is it possible that they were genetically vulnerable to this virus and their genes not being passed on is ultimately good for the health of the entire human herd?
Since the beginning of this thing, those people with natural immunity, either acquired or genetic, have been urged to get vaccinated anyway, and the control group of unvaccinated is steadily shrinking so that adequate scientific study of them is becoming more and more difficult. But we sure have sold a lot of vaccines.

With animals carrying this thing, it’s clear it is never going away. I choose to live with it rather than run from it. But that should be my choice, based on my assessment of my risk, others are free to choose to protect themselves as best as they see fit. Can we stop blaming people for its existence and make our own choices about what’s best for ourselves and our families? Good grief.

When did making medical decisions for yourself become selfish?

What are the chances you’ll be hospitalized if you’re involved in an auto accident at 85+ mph, compared to being hospitalized from Covid? How many of the thousands of people I see driving those speeds are so altruistic that they feel entitled to shame/insult people who choose differently regarding vaccines?
When will people of every political stripe stop trying to use the coercive power of the government to force others to live according to “approved” norms?
I applaud anyone, wrestlers included, who stand up to mandates/policies/regulations that are adopted out of fear and sacrifice freedom.
