tigerfan got a reaction from swoopdown in Validative experiences
In the late 70's early 80's, most youth wrestling opportunities were in freestyle where I lived (Mn). We did have a limited Middle School wrestling season where we typically wrestled 10-12 matches in a season. I think it was 6th or 7th grade and our freestyle club went to a folkstyle tournament in Emmetsburg, IA. That was the first tournament I ever attended that seeded wrestlers. I was like 12-0 or something and was expecting to get seeded first. However, a team of Oklahoma studs, the Tulsa All-Stars or something, came and their kids were sporting records like 46-1 or whatever. I was seeded something like 5th or 6th I think. I got destroyed in the semis and took 4th, I believe. A couple years later at Cyclone Wrestling Camp a kid comes up to me and was like, "I know you. We wrestled in Emmetsburg." He said he had the picture on his wall because he won, and I was on the stand. He said I was the toughest match he had that whole year. We rolled that whole week at camp; he was much better than me and I learned a lot from him. That kid's name was Kendall Cross.
Fast-forward to 1992, on a whim while serving in the Marines in Italy, I went to the Olympics in Barcelona. I had acquired some free tickets to the wrestling. Lo and behold, who did I see but Kendall Cross. Later that week, I ran into Kendall and some of the other wrestlers at a drinking establishment off Las Ramblas and introduced myself. Whether he did or didn't remember me, he was gracious enough to pretend he did, and we hung out well into the morning hours, thoroughly dehydrating ourselves in the process. Still have my ticket autographed by Cross, Coleman, Jackson, and some others lying around a scrapbook somewhere.

tigerfan got a reaction from John Coctostan in Favorite team moments/performances
What are your favorite team's most memorable performances, either individually or team-wise? I'm especially interested in surprises, so please no PSU fans droning on about winning 7 of 8 titles when they were favored.
For Mizzou, I have quite a few:
Individually:
Ben Askren making the finals as a freshman, and bumping up against Kish at Natty Duals
Matt Pell taking 7th at 184 the same year
Walk on Michael Chandler making the R12 as a freshman
Mark Ellis winning it all as a Jr
Alan Waters starting 20-something and 0 as a true freshman
Todd Porter, a SR first year starter majoring defending champ Chris Perry at home
J'den Cox winning it all as a true freshman
Jaydin Eierman taking 5th at 141 as a freshman and sticking Dean Heil in the dual last year
Marcus Hoehn winning the Big12 over Gallick
Kyle Bradley beating defending champ St. John in Natty Duals quaterfinals in Mpls
Team:
Beating Iowa in Carver for National Dual Championship
Beating Iowa in Minnesota at National duals in Mpls, see above
Every time we beat Cornell
Beating OkSt in their house last year, see above
There are so many others, but this should get us started

Unranked Darmstadt majoring then #2 Miklus 9-0 while choosing top to accumulate 6:11 of riding time.

Though not a Mizzou fan, Houdashelt beating Ness at NCAAs really got their fanbase pumped up as well. That was a LOUD reaction...

tigerfan got a reaction from mlbruem in Mizzou Lineup?
No decision at 125 yet, Smith and Punke's performance will determine.
Fortuna will start at 157, but Jacques is ready to come out of RS if he falters.
Marriott is the guy at 184.
No decision at 197 yet.
Myers will start, but Elam could get pulled if necessary.
Mizzou is loading up for next year with RS's, I expect they'll be in the 6-10 range this year and make a run at a trophy next year.
