  1. In a show of respect for what Gable accomplished this summer, Hawkeye fans put the sport above their own and rose to give a standing ovation to Gable. It was a first class act, given the rivalry, and as noted, by the greatest fans of the sport! Again, congratulations Hawkeye fans for being the best ambassadors of the sport!
  2. Just wanted to tip my hat to the Hawkeye fans for their acknowledgement of Gable Stevenson. What a class act from the best fans of wrestling! Bar none.
  3. jcjcjc.. Kudukhov wasn't passive with his skills. I do see similarities if Kyle is less passive. Notice, to my point, Kudukhov had the ability to surrender points and still win. I say this as evidence that Kyle has the skills to open up.
  4. I think I understand what you are trying to ask. If I may be so bold, can you spot any similarities is styles? Couldn't attach it so...
  5. I stand by my earlier post: Wouldn't it be amazing if Kyle Dake knew what the rest of the world knows? When he opens up, he is simply lights out. His hips and scrambling ability, along with his par terre keep him in every match no matter whom. More importantly, he can give up points, and still overcome deficits when attacking. JB can also score against the worlds best when he opens up but as an old man myself, I understand his reluctance as age pursues him. Going to be an amazing night!
  6. I just want to take a moment to first, wish Jordan Oliver the best in his pursuit to qualify his weight for the Olympics! Of course he can! Will it be difficult, of course! I'd like to go on record saying that I believe he can. I saw no reason in his style, his competitiveness, conditioning or post trials mentality to assume otherwise. Remember fellow teammate Coleman Scott folks. Secondly, I want to congratulate our entire squad of Olympians. I am actually very excited about this team and our coaching staff and the strides they have all made! As a former coach, I had the opportunity to routinely say to my athletes what we all know...DREAM BIG and TRAIN HARD! With respect for all our 2021 Olympians!

  8. I missed that!!! Many thanks GreatWhite!
  9. Congrats Wyatt! I would much rather spend my time looking at the huge accomplishments of these young men so thanks lu_alum.
  10. Just noticed Yahya Thomas had an equally impressive tournament as the 25th seed. I don't know him personally, like I know Patrick, so the slight was never intended. Well done to both!
  11. Just wanted to tip my hat to Patrick McKee. #15 seed goes 7-1 to take third. Loses to 2 seed in 2nd round and goes through 16,23,5,19,7 and 4 seeded wrestlers to capture third. Heck of an effort! Congrats Patrick!
  12. Absurd and "CLASS..LESS" These coaches would not put their athletes at risk IMO! You have most likely NEVER coached at the collegiate level but there is a real and enduring bond that transcends success. Yes, they want the most out of their athletes but that would not include running them on the freeway to sharpen their foot speed as you suggest!
  13. Much like influenza that kills vastly more?
  14. I've wondered if Stevenson won't be akin to Schlatter? One of those guys that popular opinion would suggest has the ability to win 4 titles yet always has someone in his weight that prevents him from doing so.
  15. So, if your concern is of transmission, you must also know that it has had little, if ANY effect on youth. Especially well trained athletes like wrestlers or infants, with mucus infused lungs. It is killing mostly the elderly and the congestively ill people. What is your concern?
  16. ??? To be honest, YOU never make sense to me. What are you saying or is my CORONA (not covid-19)virus acting up again?
  17. Vak: I have a lot of respect for you and your years of fair minded and imo, even handed analysis. However, we risk our lives and limbs everyday. A broken neck, a poorly timed entrance into oncoming traffic or an off chance salmonella laced meal at Chipolte. You know what I mean. We (wrestlers) ARE modern day Gladiators! Let them wrestle in front of adoring fans, especially the seniors (Athletes that is, not us old folks), is my opinion! They will never be afforded another opportunity as unique as this. Now my rant on group think...."we're all going to perish in 2000 from Y2K, trust us" "aaahh emm, we meant, Global Warming, 2010 and you are toast, ice berg melting, flooding, New York city underwater, etc." "Trust us, we're educated!" "AAAhhh....eeeemmm, now we have to say, ""GLOBAL EXISTENTIAL CLIMATE CHANGE ( we can add a word and change a word so no matter if it is hotter or cooler, they will think we're REALLY smart this time!" And now, YOU ONLY HAVE 12 YEARS LEFT!!!" yeah, yeah, yeah....read the Danish Astrophysicist who makes global warming a matter of galaxial band theory and....I guess, according to the educated idiots, I'm on borrowed time anyway. So I want to see round two of RBY vs. Gross, Hall vs. Kemmerer, Stevenson vs. Parris and of course, Vincent vs "the BULL", IN THE COMFORT OF MY SUITE!. I would have even invited you over for a beer. At least then I can die a happy CORONA (not covid-19) man! God speed and go Hawks ( and gophers)! BTW, I was going to add, if you are flying into the twin cities to watch NCAA's on espn, I highly recommend fogo de chao! It is a brazilian steakhouse with an almost game show quality but it is absolutely a must. Took Eggs, Becker, Russell, Ness, my Dad and Son there and it is a real treat! I apologize for the cross mixing of threads. Little time in my old age.
  18. so...the old guy got this right. RBY over Rivera in the finals.
  19. Like this kid a lot. Wish his coach would have told him to pop elbows on Desantos reach like we used to. Think he might have made the semis if he would have.
  20. Im going with RBY. If Gross wrestles Rivera like his earlier match he won't make the finals. Desaanto looked gassed so I don't see him getting by the fast paced, tons of scrambles RBY (biting tongue here to avoid any reference to a cradle). I just thought RBY looked the best in the early round.
