According to this article, the arbitrator was Matthew Mitten.

As I expected, he has experience disputes with sports disputes in general, but has never before arbitrated a wrestling dispute. (According to this link, he's previously arbitrated disputes involving bobsled & skeleton, Paralympics (track & field), gymnastics, judo, speedskating, diving, taekwondo,  volleyball, track & field, and table tennis -- but not wrestling.)

I was coming here to post his faculty biography. He's an experienced sports arbitrator and teaches sports law classes at Marquette. Just so there's some grist for the conspiracy mill, he went to THE Ohio State University.

  2. The summary of the ruling implies that the brick was accepted purely to challenge the  merits of the 2+2 score, and the video review changed the score. Right or wrong, the decision to accept the brick 30 seconds after the score was posted was an officiating error. In effect, the ruling on the mat isn't the video review, it's the ruling on the mat unless you make a timely challenge.

The issue of the chair improperly agreeing with both the refs 2 and the judge's 2 appears not to have been relevant because the officials did not undertake a review of the allegedly improper scoring process on their own; it was the challenge brick that initiated the review. Yianni's brick wasn't accepted because you can't ask for a video review of a video review.

Next steps are a wild goddamn matchup and what probably isn't next is a Cornell - Penn State dual.

I will go with Dake. He had a better college career. Not only did he win 4 titles to Ringer's 3, he beat better guys, including 2 future world team members. Ringer didn't beat anyone who won even an NCAA title in his finals. Also, Dake has had a much better international career. Has Dake lost to any American other than world champions JB and Cox since his junior year of college?

i think he lost in the yarygin.

i also think that "you are only appealing because you lost" is a tautology. who appeals when they win?

Honestly, he did not do much in the match. Great tournament, but the final match he did little to win it. Abe did not do much either until he got down 2-1 on a step out or penalty (can't recall which) with 30 seconds left, but he then immediately turned the heat up and got a nice TD in like 10 seconds. They were the deciding points.

I followed USAW on twitter and they said that Abe got the TD before giving up a point for fleeing, but I suppose he was down 1-1 at the time anyway so tomato/tomahto. Hoping UWW or Track eventually posts it for free in the US. Not to restart that discussion.

Abe (JPN) is a little black belt freestyler. Nice low single straight to a lace, a killer high and low gut - both ways, and he can throw. Dominated his half.

Should be a real fun finals against Vito. Looking for major fireworks.   :D

    Finals tomorrow at 11am eastern?

1 pm eastern according to flo

I assume that Americans having to pay while others do not (if this is indeed what's happening) is arranged by UWW. Does anyone know why UWW wants it that way?

In the US, wrestling is a niche audience by broadcast standards but a viewership with the disposable income to pay for the product, so a subscription service buys the local rights.  Plus almost all broadcast is in private hands here, which isn't true all over.

I don't need to see it thru a Tor browser (others may wish to take your advice but that's up to them) . I paid Track the $49.99 and can view it thru their site.

I couldn't bring myself to pay $30 for an event that starts at 3:30am. Can't download Tor either because after the tournament is over I don't need to buy heroin or guns.

  8. i can't believe i'm typing this given everything in the arbitration threads but ... would all of you shut up and stop yelling at tbar. it is so easy to get people here angry that i mostly don't even bother. i'm a huge ******* on twitter but here i just engage honestly because getting people mad here is like stealing inflatables from a kiddie pool.

Also, Vito kicks ass and if someone could post a link to the video archive i'd appreciate it.

Tried to watch the main ESPN U feed yesterday’s hoping they would cross over to show the wrestling finals, but the channel stayed on random track and field qualifier events most of the time.   Maybe I will get lucky for at least the men’s freestyle, but I’m not holding my breath.

look under "schedule and replays" for the upcoming events. Pan Am games are listed under "Olympic" and then look for "Lucha Libre" - it's being broadcast via ESPN Deportes. It will switch to the live events at 5:30. You can see the morning matches under Replays (but here's the link http://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=7b12c444-cdd1-4e50-8efe-a8d4f547fedf)

Looks like the brackets only have 8 guys. Is that right?

mostly - a few had 9 and a qualifying round before the QF

Sorry if this has been covered - but is there anywhere to watch the Pan Am games wrestling?

ESPN streaming has Mat A; @usawrestling twitter is streaming a bootleg of Mat B when an American is there, otherwise I don't know if Mat B is streaming in the US.
