  1. Stieber Worlds = 1st, 12th, 19th for 2016, 2017, 2018. In 2016, he had 4 wins to take the championship. All 4 guys would eventually be world medalists - 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronzes between them. So even though this was a non olympic weight in an olympic year, it was a very tough tournament and I wouldn't diminish the gold medal in any way. He earned that thing. Stieber had 2 losses in the 2017 worlds and they were both to past or future gold medalists. Stieber was one loss and out in 2018 and it was to the eventual bronze medalist. So his world championship performances were all competitive with the best in the world. Taylor Worlds = 1st in 2018. Taylor had 5 wins and 1 was against a past gold medalist and one was against the 2018 silver medalist. Taylor took longer to make it to the world championships because he was 1-11 against Burroughs, Dake and Cox. It took the establishing of new weight classes at 79 and 92 kg to spread these guys out and open up a spot for Taylor. Stieber did not have any USA gold medalists to fight through to make it to the first team. Stieber USA Open National Championships = 3rd,6th,4th,3rd,4th,2nd,3rd for 2009,10,13,14,15,16,18. Stieber wrestled his first US Open in 2009 at age 18. It took him from then till 2016 to make his first appearance at the world championships. I think that tells you something about how hard it is to make it through the gauntlet of very good wrestlers to make the first team. Taylor USA Open National Championships = 2nd,2nd,1st,1st,1st,1st for 2013-2018. Taylor wrestled in the 2012 Olympic Trials at age 21 and it took him till 2018 to make his first appearance at the world championships. Reinforces the comment on how hard it is to make it to the first team. Two of the very best all time NCAA wrestlers who both made it to the world team to win gold. The results say that Taylor made the transition from folkstyle to freestyle a little better than Stieber did. They both made it through the very difficult process to make the team. But Taylor's overall freestyle record is better. I think Stieber was an outstanding control wrestler (could ride anyone) but that isn't valued in freestyle. Taylor's style is more wide open and scrambling and that has worked a little better.
  2. I found when it was supposed to happen in the South Idaho Press (Burley, ID). It was 6-27-1991 at 7:30 pm and Kenny Monday was advertised as going to be there. I also found an article that suggested the event did happen. But I can't find any actual results (I used newspapers.com to look for it). The Boise newspapers are not in newspaper.com right now. Sorry about that.
  3. JB by the numbers: Win-Loss Total senior freestyle record 179-8, vs. International guys 139-5, vs. USA = 40-3, vs. Russia 20-3, vs. Former Soviet Union 60-4, vs. world gold medalists 18-4, vs. world silver and bronze medalists 36-2, vs. non medalists 125-2 with the two losses being Marable and Imar. Marable was once a training partner at times, not sure about Imar. Imar may still be a world medalist in his future. I think only Dan Gable and John Smith have the same type winning percentage as JB. The numbers certainly say he hasn't lost much.
  4. I am trying to build a list of all the matches that Kevin Jackson wrestled in. He won the 1998 Takhti Cup (February 1998) and it was a big deal then since it was the first time American wrestlers went to Iran after the Iranian Revolution. The US newspapers gave me some of the information. I found that Jackson took first place and won 3 matches (1st round Stefanos Karakov of Greece was pinned, Semi Final Mohammed Ali Ghaffari of Iran was pinned, and Final Fereiodoon Qambari was decisioned). Is there an Iranian website (Farsi) that someone could look at for me and tell me if he had any other matches in that tournament and what the names, countries and scores are for the matches? I am assuming that he had 5 matches in the tournament then but I don't really know anything except the 3 matches reported in US papers at the time. Thanks for your help. Tim
  5. I added 2014 WTT to Cox and a few 2014 WTT trials matches to Taylor. I had missed that. New spreadsheet with those revisions attached. Thanks for any and all input to make this more complete. Freestyle Records for 5 current wrestlers rev1.xlsx
  6. I am an old retired guy with time on his hands. So I did create a list of the senior freestyle matches that Burroughs, Cox, Dake, Snyder and Taylor have had. I picked all of the current gold medalists we have to try and make these lists. I am missing some data (names, country the wrestler came from, or scores) on a few items. I might also be missing other tournaments. If so, please let me know. All input is appreciated. The Burroughs list from his website is very complete. The Snyder list from his wikipedia page is missing the 2015 US Open that he won and a 2018 World Club Cup Dual match with India that he won. I tried to identify all the world medal winners each guy wrestled and calculated other comparative data. So scroll down to the bottom of each excel workbook page and you can see some of the calculations I have done. I think we live in a good time where we really have outstanding freestyle wrestlers in this country. Some have accomplished more, but we really have a good overall team. It is a lot of fun to follow. I have found it pretty disappointing how poorly documented the records of our greatest freestyle wrestlers are. I find all of the discussions on the forums interesting but often lacking in the real data. So I decided as part of my retirement time hobby, I would try to study it a bit. I guess it's time to share that info with all the other geeks and nerds out there. I wasn't ever sure what I would do with the stuff I created. If someone wants to put any of this out there on Wikipedia, be my guest. I am trying to do this same type of thing for Baumgartner, Gable, Jackson, Kemp, Sanderson, both Schultz brothers, and Smith. I have an outline done but this is very tough sledding finding the info. I am pretty certain that I can never find all the info and will end up with just an outline. But still lots more digging before I know that for sure (months away from having anything I am sure). Also, there is a wikipedia page that shows all the US Men's Freestyle Wrestlers by year and how they finished in world or olympic championships. I retyped this data into a spreadsheet, made a bunch of calculations and observations, and then created two summary pages. That is the second attachment you see. I focused on 1960 thru 2018 since those were the years we were basically competing every year and are completed. I am happy to answer any questions. Just type them out. Thanks Tim Freestyle Records for 5 current wrestlers.xlsx US Men's Freestyle History.xlsx
  7. Does anyone have access to senior freestyle men's career match records? I found a copy of Dan Gable's on his website (I printed it but can't find a copy now to post a link), Lee Kemp has his on his website http://www.leekemp.com/competition-record/), Jordan Burroughs has his on his website ( http://www.jordanburroughs.com/wins), Kyle Snyder has a wikipedia page that has his matches (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Snyder_(wrestler)), but those are the only few I have found. Does anyone have the career freestyle match records for any other US or international senior men's freestyle wrestler that they can provide a link to (from 1970s till now)? Bruce Baumgartners and Cael Sanderson's web pages are "under construction" so no match records there. I have been surprised that there isn't more of this information readily available. Please post a copy or a link if you have it. Thanks.
  8. Does anyone know where to get old match results for Senior US Freestyle wrestlers (ie. list of matches or actual filled in brackets) for US Opens, World Team Trials, international tournaments, World Championships, etc. that go back to the 1980s? I wanted to look at guys like John Smith, Bruce Baumgartner, and others in a lot of detail but can't find their actual match results anywhere. You can find some articles, some you tubes on some matches, etc. but no way to actually see all their actual match results. I was hoping there was a way to find these match results archived online somewhere but no such luck finding. Let me know if you know where to look. Thanks for your help.
