This 100%.  You can't be the GOAT when you only have one Olympic gold (Burroughs) or zero (Adeline) and there is someone else with more Olympic gold (Smith and Baum, and on the women's side, Helen and Mensah).

This is great news! He’s already signed a multi year contract and they are going to turn a star into a superstar. I love whoever his manager/lawyer is for getting him another year at Minnesota to go along with the contract! When I look at what his goals and dreams are I say that this is probably the best case scenario.

Woah woah woah don't question Bob the Builder over here. Not like we're still in the middle of a pandemic that shut down the global economy. There's simply no reason this building hasn't been built yet.

One thing that might help you going forward is having a basic understanding of how things work. The HWC is not connected to the Iowa Athletic Department. That would be against the rules. Two different budgets. One is dictated by the state government. The other is private.

the club my boys were in as youths had a fairly large girl contingent... 10+ if i remember correctly...
in youth wrestling, boys and girls used to wrestle the same divisions... there is now typically a girls division at all the major youth tourneys...
what i found was up to U10ish, the girls were actually very competitive with boys and easier to coach...
the girls who excel can then become competitive once again in HS when the overall level of wrestling takes a nose dive again...
    where are you located?

Perhaps I can give you the short version of what Chael is talking about. You have to be on the list in Georgia but basically anybody who is anybody in the wrestling world can you get on the list. Oh the cooler has three ice-skating arenas four kids skating. I saw Gable Stevenson putting on some shoes to skate by the way. Anyways.... so they quarantine off one of the areas and most of the people on the list has been checked for Covid symptoms. Since it’s a skating ring the crowd area is where we are supposed to stay, but there were people walking around on the mat. I would have but I didn’t see anybody big that I know. I saw Kevin Jackson and Gable Stevenson outside of a weight room that is just outside of the skating ring. So basically I could’ve done more and had more to brag about, but out of respect I didn’t want to push it.

I know this is off-topic but wow Gabriel Stephenson is a great guy. When he’s not getting ready or cooling down from a wrestling match he is a different person. He was so humble! I knew Kevin Jackson was but I guess it’s Stevenson wanting to be a professional wrestler and all that gives him the bad boy look.

Any other questions I could answer I’d be glad to.

This is my opinion, but I believe Gilman isn't being philosophical, trying to show you how smart he is, or trying to win you over to him.
He is witnessing. To me it looks like he is using his own experience to try to win people to Christ, not to Thomas Gilman. If someone saw another motive, I believe they missed the point of the blog post. Most of the writing in the blog is based in scriptural example. He is telling us to listen for God, because He doesn't always work in obvious ways. There are numerous stories in the Bible of people straying from God and returning after hardship. I thought his comment about the foot merely being a symptom of his bigger problem made it pretty clear.
The being silent/meditating and listening for the word of God is common advice given by pastors.
I don't know Thomas Gilman, and I don't know how smart he is or if I would like him if I met him. The blog post is about him, but clearly only as a device to allow the reader to see the bigger message. My $.02.

I have also had the privilege of having a few conversations with his family and they are just salt of the Earth people who are not afraid to give God the glory win or lose. After seeing the way that Nate Carr, his wife, and Nate Carr Jr. carry themselves on and off the mat I’m not surprised at all. I wrestled in Georgia around the same time Carr Jr. was in High School, and that entire family knows how to raise fine Christian men that are strikingly good on the mat.

Goheels1812, I would second that and be very happy if my daughter ended up dating/marrying someone like this. I know that if he stepped out of line his entire family would get to him and fix the problem before I would even have to step in!

Absolutely perfect post especially about mental health. It’s easy to judge but for sure living with mental illness is a curse. It is also painful for family members. I can say with 100% certainly that AD’s parents are distraught. I am praying for AD and his family.

Huh, I’m thinking through and there is no Uber collision that hasn’t recently occurred outside of RBY and Fix.

Eierman / Lee just happened.  So did Gable / Parris.

Deakin / Hidlay doesn’t seem big enough.  Brooks vs ? As well.

Just call it the Riddler! It really is that slick. It needs to be studied and taught at wrestling camp. I could just see kids that are really athletic training and hitting that at the beginning of next season.

“Double inverted Flying knee pick” What Jaydin E. Did to you take Red down in the semis. He jumps and taps both knees with the back of his foot and lands behind him. Watch it again.

I think it’s the sparring instead of going live 100% or doing technique. Just sparring and trying to be creative at a slower pace has helped kids these days to take The funk to a different level. I’m 34 now so the ankle pass what is what we called funk when I wrestled. I believe a lot of credit should be given to the Abas brothers. They were the first ones that I can think of to start diving under the feet. And then obviously Askren on the mat.

Lee is better at freestyle than Folk and has been nothing but Gold at the jr level (2x world champ, and a cadet to go with it). Sure it was it 50 kg, but he is horsing guys are around all throughout his collegiate career after putting on some mass. He dominated his bracket at 2019 senior nationals. He’s also the one American who is actually good at par terre.

I suppose Fix has maybe a slightly lesser chance, but he teched his first round match and lost a close 4-2 to a former world gold and bronze medalist. It will be interesting to see how he does without creatine to cut down, but that will show up at WTT/Final X.
