For real, kind of unreal how Kolodzik and Hall only get 3 ncaa tournaments but Eierman will be wrestling in his 5th this year, and all the freshman this season will have a crack at 5 in a few years, idk how the NCAA thought this was a fair system

Blair’s current run goes back to 2002 Moccos freshman year, it could be longer but I didn’t see any placers in 2001 from blair at first glance
blair had a freshman AA this year in Chris Cannon ( Ferrari also spent a little time at blair) and have Shane Van Ness coming in next year, not hard to imagine the streak goes on another 4-5 yrs atleast
Covid actually probably helped keep the streak intact bc I don’t think they would have had an AA in 2020

My family has a long history with ACLs.  My kids have 4 ACL reconstructions between them.  Both of the surgeons we consulted during this process  said that competing with a torn ACL is out of the question and they would never sign off on it.  Our experience is ACL recovery time to training full-time is 6-7 months and competition is 7-8 months.
I suppose some doctors would sign off on it, but I can't believe he/she has the patient's long term health in mind.  Hell, some doctors sign off on opiate prescriptions they know to be fraudulent and others take showers with wrestlers.  Corruption is in the nature of people.  However, Spencer Lee is not my business and I wish him  a safe OTT, where I will be rooting for several of his opponents for reasons unrelated to his knees.

I think both of their ceiling was 8th place and Orndorff did it out of the 21 seed, winning 3 straight tough matches on the backside (2 upsets) I don’t see gas tank Gary pulling that off, especially considering he came in way out of shape this season

I agree, I think he can win it all with the limited amount we know about him at the collegiate level.  Hopefully he has a bottom game, because it will not be taught at tOSU.

Good point...he’s been solid for years and has some real good regular season wins ( Beard 2x, Buchanan, 3-0 against laird, Sloan ) but he is 1-6 in 3 trips to ncaas so maybe a change of scenery will be good for him

NO OFFENSE HERE to anyone but I'm guessing none of the posters on this thread ever wrestled at the D1 level ?? MANY big name high school wrestlers college careers came to an end OR did not turn out the way they hoped because of the bottom position. Starting on bottom against a tough top wrestler is by far the hardest, most exhausting and physical position in D1 wrestling.  A high school wrestler is MUCH farther ahead going into D1 being able to get out from bottom on anybody rather than being able to take anybody down.  A good take down artist can take you down, kick you out and may even embarrass you and hurt your feelings a little BUT please Spencer Lee don't rip my arms off or please Zain Retherford don't break my spine in half !! Trust me , just because you don't see top guys turning the bottom wrestlers in D1 doesn't mean they are not trying. Furthermore, getting ridden out for 2 minutes by a tough top wrestler is much more physical and exhausting than getting taken down 2 or 3 times by a take down artist in 2 minutes. In fact , the bottom position in D1 is what makes the NCAA D1 Championships the hardest and most physical tourney in the world!!  Please all college experienced wrestlers let me know your opinion on this.

Collegiate wrestling has enough problems finding talented heavyweights to stay with the sport.  This will only add to the burden.

Antitroll2828 got a reaction from dman115 in Iowa won the title but Penn St won the day
you both been going at it for awhile ...Have you both taken a second to think that maybe both teams and wrestling as whole won the night?
I don’t think it helps to grow the sport when penn state wins by 50 points and has 5 of the 10 champions, but with Iowa having the  balance and winning the team title but penn state coming out with 3 upsets and going 4-0 in the finals is a Win-Win for both programs and for NCAA wrestling, only thing that would’ve made it better is if Iowa clinched during the finals

Recruiting wise it’ll help both programs, some kids are going to want to be the next Aaron brooks and some are going to want to be the next Spencer Lee, Those finals aren’t going to change a committed recruit to go Iowa to penn state and that team trophy is going to flip a psu commit to Iowa

that being said Vak have you ever been apart of a team championship at any level of wrestling ? And if you have did the team win but you lose and not reach your ultimate goal? Bc I was apart of that at 2 different levels of wrestling and it f**king sucks, my team celebrating, going out and having a good time and I was sitting in my dads truck crying by myself ...
so I’d say a guy like joe lee who went 0-2 but then watched his brother and 3 of his friends go all out on Saturday night and win is definitely in a better mood then Eierman or Kem today, considering how much it sucked for a nobody like me on much lower levels , I can’t imagine losing on espn in the D1 ncaa finals then having to take pictures and celebrate the team trophy...I’m sure after time passes they’ll be able to appreciate it but I doubt Eierman, Kem , Marnelli are too happy right now, compared to the young penn state guys who all wrestled over their seeds feel

Now that brands and Iowa have their team title can they stop ruining Spencer Lee...he was already wrestling on one torn acl for years and now he’s pushing through a second, and while I appreciate his dedication to the team, someone needs to be an adult in this program and tell him to get healed up.. it’s ridiculous, the man has Olympic gold potential but at this rate he ll have arthritis in both knees by the time he’s 25 .
Lee really has the potential to do something few wrestlers have ever done for team usa but the brands bro couldn’t seem to care less. They have complete tunnel vision on the the college program , probably to the fault of their wrestlers health ..
I would much rather see Spencer win 2-3 world titles and Olympic gold than watch him tilt his way through another weak 125 field with no knees , and then be medically screwed the rest of his life
Does anyone from Iowa administration, or athletic department , or Dan gable himself see that Lee interview last night and ask the brand “what the hell are you doing”, ruining one of the best team USA prospects in a long time , just so Iowa can win 1 team title in a decade? With injuries like this someone needs to be an adult and tell Spencer to take care of his body, he only gets one, but from the interview last night I’m guessing brands whole attitude he’s passing on to Lee is win at all costs
hope Lee can finally get his body right before long term damage starts to set in

I don’t underestimate Spencer at all, I’m pointing out that as coach you just have to say at some point to the athlete STOP , Fix your body before the damage can’t be fixed
for as smart and determined as Spencer is, he’s still just a college kid with tunnel vision himself, he can say he understands that his knees will break down before he’s 40 if he keeps it up but he doesn’t really understand that, no fierce competitors ever do. Hell most young men regardless of what they do in life don’t seem to understand that

If he were over protective of lee he wouldn’t have had him wrestling on 2 Torn Acls just so they could win a meaningless team title, and He definitely would be telling him to get healed now not go and fight off gross and fix dive rolls on his knees in a couple weeks

Antitroll2828 got a reaction from BLT in So can Iowa stop destroying Lee future now?
Being a head wrestling coach isn’t about just winning championships, it’s about setting up your guys up to have successful lives on and off the mat, and what’s happening with Spencer is the opposite, they are very clearly sacrificing Spencers long term health for the short term success of winning a team title.
