Yes , will be the highest level of wrestling in Iran, trials in 5 freestyle weights and 1 Greco.
    61: Atri vs Hazratgholizadeh
86: Yazdani vs winner of Karimi/Mostafavi
92: Ghasempour vs winner of Hajiloueian/Firouzpour
    97: Goleij vs Mohammadian
125: Zare vs winner of Mohebbi/Masoumi

    and Greco
    130: Mirzazadeh vs Yousefi
those in bold only has to win the 1st match, otherwise it will be best of 3.
(I have to correct this one that the Greco match has a different rule. it's already best of 3 but MIrzazadeh is leading 1-0 since he won their match in Kazakhstan, Yousefi has to beat him twice to make the team, Mirzazadeh needs just one win, doesn't matter 1st or 2nd match)
it will start from 10:30 am (Tehran time) , spectators are allowed too and we are supposed to have TV coverage for the entire thing. (at least I hope so)

I am guessing that the heights are based on self reporting.  When it comes us men, height is the second measurement we like to exaggerate :)

So my answer below is based on my heart, not based on what I think will necessarily be the best outcome
    1. I definitely want Yazdani to be the rep in 86.  He has a chance to be the first Iranian wrestler to ever get two Olympics golds (it has already been done in weightlifting and Tae Kwan do)
    2. I want Ghassempour to be the 97 rep.  He deserves to be in the Olympics.

As he is an Iranian he no doubt is worried a lot more about Odikadze than Sadulaev or Snyder ;)
  5. Thanks
window12 reacted to Uwwdoc in Iran Wrestling News
Slightly taller than Sadulaev, and maybe ever so slightly than Snyder too.
But those guys are "bigger". Kyle weighs over 100kg, Sad is around 97-98. In Oslo Kamran weighed in at 88-89. He never walked around more than that.
The thought must be crossing his mind for Paris. If he can actually put on enough mass. But we are talking around 8kg here, and not of fat...
I don't think he can put on enough muscle to be as big as those guys, but he might sacrifice the weight disadvantage if he feels he has a better shot to make 97kg at the Olympics. He will know how he does against Mohammadian and Goleij in camp. But it's unfortunate that the 2nd best talent in Iran's team has this dilemma for Olympic weights.

Jahangiri at GR 110kg... Won gold at U17 Asian championships, looked very impressive. Hope to see more of him.
Lofti won gold at heavyweight in FS too, why are all our good prospects >100kg these days? We already have good young wrestlers there, I guess it's a good problem to have but I would rather the talent was distributed across more weight classes
  7. Thanks

apparently it was just a mistake. IWF fixed that, Goleij will have that advantage

he is #3 behind Saravi and Bali. he lost the Takhti Cup final to Bali convincingly.
apparently he was told by the coach that if he wins the gold here he will be allowed to wrestle those 2 guys for the spot. he made a lot of noises last year when Bana picked up Saravi for the 2021 Worlds in Oslo claiming he is the best and he can beat Saravi

Yes, He earned himself a place in final trials by winning the Asians
he will wrestle the winner of Takhti Cup first and the winner will face Ghasempour .

Visa’s will be a problem if they have done their military service with IRGC I think. If I remember correctly Ghassempour also competed the the military games in the past which also could be a problem.  Overall it does not look hopefull. Recenty the singer Alireza Ghorbani who is Canadian resident had a visa for USA but was not cleared to go to USA because he had done his compulsory military service with IRGC.

Thank you. The article on Wrestling in Shahnameh is so interesting. I learnt a lot including a new word- avunculicide

The only semi related wrestling proverb that is commonly used in iran is (and forgive my poor translation)  "he is standing outside the mat, and says take a single leg"  The proverb is often used when someone gives instructions without fully grasping the complexity of the situation  کنار گود نشسته میگه لنگش کن (tahlilak.com)
Also, Wrestling is quite prominent in Shahnameh, arguably the most famous mythology book in Persian  (PDF) Wrestling in the Shahnameh and Later Persian Epics | Houchang Chehabi - Academia.edu

Israel is still geographically still in Asia, despite competing in Europe for Sports in continental championships. But Turkey I thought were geographically in Europe, can correct me if I’m mistaken. Australia just as you stated for both Soccer and Basketball compete in the Asia Continent despite being in Oceania. One other that I observed that I don’t know how it happened. As you know Kazakhstan is in Asia. In all sports they compete as expected in the Asia zone. But for only soccer, they compete in the Europe Zone, I wonder how that happened?

I have to check it again for 97kg but for Ghasempour he only has to beat one guy to make the team. if Firouzpour wins the Asian title he will qualify for the final trials. and if an Iranian wrestler wins Takhti Cup, that guy should wrestle Firouzpour first and the winner will get the chance to face Ghasempour.
if Firouzpour fails and a foreign wrestler wins Takhti Cup Ghasempour already has the spot (the same goes for H. Yazdani and Zare)
97kg is a bit more complicated. Goleij has to wrestle in Takhti Cup. but I think winning the Asian gold (which Mohammadian most probably does) will qualify him for the final trial.

well. Iman Mohammadi beat a 2021 World bronze medalist from Japan and lost to a 2018 world bronze medalist from Kazakhstan. maybe you were expecting to see Russian or Turkish wrestlers here but I have to tell you they wrestle in Europe and only Asian wrestlers can participate. and this is the very best Asia can bring. only top Iranian wrestler were missing .

Definitely Nokhodi, he was U23 silver I think and Junior world champion (and obviously senior world silver), I don't remember Savadkouhi winning anything, and Nokhodi is a few years younger too.
Savadkouhi should definitely medal in the Asian Championships, I don't know about gold though.

How much credit should Pejman Dorostkar get as his coach? Looks to me  that A.M. Yazdani improvement could have had something to do with his new coach too. Considering Oslo and the overall improved performance of the team compared to the Tokyo Olympics.

Complete results of the 1st day (in Persian unfortunately) only few notable wrestlers were there
    http://www.iawf.ir/Public/iawf.ir/1/results/entekhabi FS takhti cup 1400-03.pdf
Karimi won the tournament. teching/pinning everybody on his way except the final where he beat Hadi Vafaeipour 7-1
other winners: Erfan Aeini (57), Mohammadreza Bagheri (65), Amir Hossein Hosseini (74) and Danial Shariatinia (97)
if Karimi wins the Takhti Cup he will earn a chance to wrestle Hassan Yazdani in the final trials. he moved up to 92kg just to not face Yazdani but then Ghasempour happened ! with Ghasempour, Firouzpour, Bazri and even Ebrahimi 92kg isn't easier than 86kg. but in 86kg at least there will be another chance because of the Asian Games (only in Olympic weights) I think his decision makes sense

If for any reason, Hassan Yazdani cannot compete in 86 for the olympics, I predict Karimi, Ghassempour and Bazri will be back in 86 in a heart beat
They are in 92 only because Yazdani is in 86
  24. Thanks

Savadkouhi is showing progress. he also beat that Belarusian Olympic silver medalist in a league match
I say let them wrestle . we will see who is better. if Savadkouhi wins gold in Asia he will earn himself a chance to wrestle Nokhodi in the final trials.

MH Mohammadian won Yasar Dogu after beating Alikhan Zhabrailov 4-3 in the final. that wasn't great, I was expecting more. he was conservative in the final. but still that was OK against Russia #2.
there will be lots of Iranians in action tomorrow in other 8 weights.
