  1. How many weights will PSU win next year? should start the year with 5 guys at #1.
  2. College kids are able to get their fair market value for the first time ever and you aren't going to convince me that is a bad thing.
  3. Thanks for clarifying things for us, Dan. Asking for a legal source of money to provide a service is now asking for a bribe. Let me guess - you never complained once when an athletic department shopped for the best deal with sneaker companies and other sponsors. Did you? You didn't cry on here about asking for a bribe, now did you? We get it - the NIL stuff scares you. Everything is going to be okay. It is working as designed.
  4. I feel lost watching it right now. The weird covid years have left me not familiar with many names. I have a lot of catching up to do and I am probably not the only one feeling this way. How long will we have this covid after effect? 2 years? 1?
  5. here's another: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/golf/jr-smith-now-a-college-golfer-named-north-carolina-a-26ts-academic-athlete-of-the-year-with-40-gpa/ar-AAWCsGc
  6. here's one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Weinke
  7. The chances of 3 people blowing a call is lower than the chances of 1 person. Its more fair for the athletes. How many times have we seen the mat official get overridden by the judge and the chair? Happens all the time. Better to be right than to worry about a refs feelings. Look at the US Open finals match with Caffey. The ref gave him 5 and wanted 2 more for fleeing which was a terrible call. The 2 other refs didn't confirm the 2 and the right call came out of it because of the 3 person system.
  8. This is predominantly a college board, so I don't think there are as many freestyle fans on here, in general. When you say that "its quiet around here" your perception might be a bit skewed. Freestyle is the pinnacle of the sport, both internationally and here at home. Whether you like it or not, Olympic and World glory is much more meaningful than NCAA titles. Also, for whatever reason, the US Open looks like the worst in history. Caffey, a no time AA from MSU wins it. I don't know if its an indictment against his college coaches that they couldn't get AA hardware with that stud, or if its a case of that weight just not being very good this year, or a combo of both. Gabe Townsell wouldn't have been seeded at NCAAs this year and he was the 1 seed at his weight. Just a weird weird tournament.
  9. There have been some guys who played MLB and then came back when it didn't work out and played football. I think it all has to do with your clock and when you start it.
  10. Yes, they can pass the pt tests easily, but special forces in particular will disqualify someone for previous injuries. https://www.thebalancecareers.com/military-medical-standards-for-enlistment-3354031 here is a list of injures/conditions that disqualify you from serving in the military: Abdominal Organs and Gastrointestinal System Blood and BloodForming Tissue Diseases Body Build Deficiency Advanced Dental Diseases Ears and Hearing Loss Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders Loss of Function in Upper Extremities Loss of Function in Lower Extremities Miscellaneous Conditions of the Extremities Mental Health Issues Eyes and Vision Loss General and Miscellaneous Conditions and Defects Genitalia and Reproductive Organs Diseases and Defects Head Trauma or Defects Heart and Vascular System Defects Height and Weight Deficiencies Lungs, Chest Wall, Pleura, and Mediastinum Defects Mouth Disease Chronic Neck Pain or Immobility Neurological Disorders Nose, Sinuses, and Larynx Defects Skin and Cellular Tissue Defects Spine and Sacroiliac Joint Defects Systemic Diseases Tumors and Malignant Diseases Urinary System Disorders clearly not all apply to former college wrestlers, but in particular head injures and joint injuries are a huge deal. How many college wrestlers make it out without a joint injury? 10%?
  11. Every promotion needs a heel. TheMat forums are no different. Thank you for the kind welcome.
  12. I think there is a lot of proof that moving up weights has as much or more competitive benefit than cutting weight does.
  13. Thank you. Thats pretty cool. Now I like the Ravens a little bit more.
  14. Be honest with me here - do you think 125 pounders would like or dislike being able to be 130? They just need to make it a weight bump that 95% of people won't cut to get and that people will use to grow. That would be good for all involved and is a quick fix as to how to reduce the current amount of weight being cut. If a kid can fill out 130 and is still cutting the same amount, they were cutting too much to being with.
  15. Maybe make it 5 pounds, but if you add the weight, most people will go up, not cut down to the new weight.
  16. perhaps someone should tell the DOD that 75% of college wrestlers are too injured to be ready for the battlefield.
  17. Lenny is a national treasure. He will enjoy retirement.
  18. Check out the username...its right there for you! I am not hiding
  19. If you take a look back to 2014, you can see when the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club became far and away the most wealthy nonprofit wrestling club in the country. In 2014, the NLWC reported $5,726,767 in contributions, ending the 2014 calendar year with net assets of $6,184,252. 5 year rolling average of 1.6 million. stop being a hater and trying to neg people. its going to get you banned.
  20. I didn't say the team isn't benefiting from the RTC - that is the literal purpose of the RTC! "using" the athletes might not be a good thing, depends on who you ask. All good brother, I enjoy you as a poster. Not trying to have beef, we basically agree.
  21. I am talking about their RTC. They have a 5 million a year operating budget. They get no $ from the school for the RTC. Cael is just better than other coaches at financially supporting his program. I wonder how many houses he owns now?
  22. You actually nailed it with this post. This is what CAEL does. Not his athletes. The coaches. Do you see the difference? College student athletes should not be put in a self funding position. Only a bad coach would ask his athletes to do what he can't - fundraise.
