Sargsyan - Armenia July 18-19

Recommended Posts

Haven't seen the match but feet to back is 4. Butt or knees to back is. 2. It's worth noting that an exposure from knees or butt is no longer worth more than a td which changes strategy somewhat.

Also a td follower by a turn is 2 + 2. A turn first followed by control is just 2. One of the idiosyncrasies of the scoring system.

Glad Safayran won he's been in a huge funk since his world title.

There are 2 Khubetzys, one of them beat Tsargush 3 nationals ago but dnp at worlds. Regardless, good win. It's important to remember that Taylor is really, really good. Just because he's not as good as Tsargush or Dake people get very down on him.

Mohammadian created a little chance for himself by winning the gold here, cuz Yazdani is injured (once again) and his situation is not clear yet. in this case I expect a wrestle-off between Tahan and Mohammadian probably in Poland.

Karimi in 86kg final today against Soslan Tigiev, after beating Soslan Ktsoev (6-0), Vladislav Valiev (4-0) and Nodar Egadze (18-8)

I think its an important statement by DT to come out and compete well after those trials.  Many were calling for him to jump weights or even sports (Foley) after the trials.  He'll be right there threatening for an Olympic spot.

Personally, I am hoping Wrestling implements an 80KG class in '17 and tries for the next 3 years to get 61 70 and 80 all into the 2020 Olympics.    If there is an 80 in '17 Worlds, I would hope DT goes up to 80.  And maybe KD thinks about 70KG, expecially if there is hope that the 70KG will be in the 2020 Olympics.
