wrestlingnerd 3,012 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Title says it all. If techs were 20 points, the results would've been no different at Junior Worlds. He has come as close to perfecting the technique as anyone I've seen since Smith. If Smith could coach him for one month, he'd get that lace to a perfect 10. Beautiful transitions from TD to lace. Lethal. The senior guys should watch Lee's lace and take notes.

BobDole 1,229 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Spencer Lee has been to enough OTC camps to probably have worked with Johnny.
wrestlingnerd 3,012 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Actually Zeke had the best lace in his day. I never really liked his version as much as Smith's. I know it's sacrilegious to compare the Young Gun to Jones, but I honestly think he does it better, at least for his age group if not outright. Lee is such a beast on the mat, and the lace is a perfect move for him given that background. He looked uncomfortable in the past, but now it's so fluid, just like his folkstyle tilts. The transitions are awesome.
BobDole 1,229 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Lee has some nice laces, but I was really impressed with Pico's ability to transition from a takedown to a turn in his matches. Hopefully with these two guys doing well in par terre it signals a new era of us actually getting turns at the senior level. 1 heelpick reacted to this
wrestlingnerd 3,012 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Pico showed a new move too, an outside step Hi-C that he can finish from the knees or from the feet, that sets up his par terre well since he ends up controlling the guy's hips on the way to the mat. wrestlingnerd 3,012 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 I'm pointing out that you just compared a 16 year old boy wrestling against other boys to sr world champ. That is exactly right. Both world champs (for their age group), but Lee much more dominant.

Katie 1,076 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 If a 16 year old has the best leg lace of any American since Smith, we're in huge trouble.

WildTurkey44 321 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 Lee is 16. Let's hold off a minute or 2 before anointing him the best since Smith. My God people 1 Billyhoyle reacted to this
Billyhoyle 2,500 Report post Posted August 17, 2015 I thought the "let down" thread showed a lack of perspective, but this is something else. Lets let him hit 55kg first at least before we compare him to Smith.

bwh27 31 Report post Posted August 18, 2015 Dave Schultz is since John Smith. This capricious fawning needs to end..... I'm a huge Dave Schultz fan, and love watching his matches. But if you're saying it's capricious that '92 John Smith had an inferior leg lace to '93-'96 Dave Schultz then that's almost as capricious as the OP. Schultz was crazy technical and savvy and brutal in his late career, but he didn't leg lace guys at will like Smith did. The argument would be between prime Schultz and prime Smith. RetiredPoster 87 Report post Posted August 18, 2015 Silly. Silly indeed....comparing a boy to a man? come on...this is the same crew that had Pico whipping Metcalf and winning the Olympics, next year. Spencer Lee has a very good leg lace. He is wrestling, Boys! Enough with the comparisons.... 1 gutfirst reacted to this

No, he's saying Dave Schultz had a better lace post 92 than Spencer Lee currently does, which I'm sure you agree with. heelpick 116 Report post Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) I like how Jordanov tried to call time out and stop the carnage of being turned all over the mat. It also was not scored correctly either. The sequence was a 2 pt turn, two hand to hands for a point each, the phony time out requested, and then another turn going out of bounds that should have scored. Good thing the outcome was not affected. Edited August 19, 2015 by heelpick
