Mocco spent 4 years at Blair, ruth and evans only went for their senior years. Neither ruth nor evans placed higher than 3rd at PIAA's.

Tervel Dlagnev did not start wrestling until his sophomore year in high school, finishes 3rd and 4th at the Texas State Championships, wins 2 D11 titles at Nebraska-Kearney and has represented the USA at HWT and is a two time world bronze medalist. Currently the #1 ranked USA wrestler at HWT in freestyle.

Winning prep nationals is equivalent to winning a state title, so listing the Blair guys, while factually accurate, is sort of cheating. Uetake, however, is a clever answer!

Coach Roderick : Speaking as he left town - after 'taking in' parts of the Illinois state finals in Champaign/Urbana…..

 

"Some of the time, there is very little difference between the 1st kid and the 3rd place guy."

 

Coach was after a stud HWT that placed 3rd at the state tourney. This particular HWT moved like a cat. We all kinda thought that he was different/special-- if you will. And…..indeed he was.

 

I still (at tourneys end)  find myself  comparing the champ to the (conso) winner. The 3rd place guy, that is.

the thing about blair is that national preps is essentially their state tournament, and they have attended NJ Prep States, which I thought mocco won, not sure if they still do
