merr6267 18 Report post Posted November 18, 2015 Also, Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI is NAIA this year after being NCWA last year. 1 Pinnum reacted to this
JasonBryant 1,675 Report post Posted November 18, 2015 To my knowledge, Marion still competes as an NCWA program and does not compete in NJCAA championships.

Pinnum 796 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 Do the CCCAA schools not compete with the rest of the NJCAA? They have their own championship in December. It is a fall sport in California.

Tofurky 596 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) To my knowledge, Marion still competes as an NCWA program and does not compete in NJCAA championships. This may take some checking by people with more resources than my own, but the NJCAA link I provided Pinnum in post #3 lists Marion as a member team beginning this year. Also, Marion's their NJCAA profile, which lists wrestling as one of their NJCAA sports: http://www.njcaa.org/member_colleges/college-profile?collegeId=1320. Zebra 545 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 There have been several DII, DIII, and NAIA additions this summer which if you have not updated since the spring are by default not on the mat. Still it's great that somebody does this.
JasonBryant 1,675 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 Marion's own website lists the sport as "NCWA Wrestling". I guess I'll give the NJCAA a call tomorrow.
GranbyTroll 430 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 Interesting thanks. I wonder what their reasoning for this is? Sometime in the 70s, the coaches got together and voted to start their own league with the championships right before winter break. The sport isn't as big in CA and the teams would shrink over winter break. NAIA- Simpson University, Redding CA
mightymousejm125 7 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 Are these just men's programs or women's too? Obviously I know that some of the NAIA schools have both such as MO Valley, but was just curious.
jeffr_ideal 216 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 I am just amazed that NC has 7 Div 1 schools. You dont hear much about their HS wrestling.
Pinnum 796 Report post Posted November 19, 2015 Updated with all but Marion Military who I believe still elects to compete against in region NCWA programs.

Yellow_Medal 190 Report post Posted November 20, 2015 Great map, thank you for doing this Pinnum! It's great to be able to visualize the D2 coverage of Colorado. We bring more to college wrestling than most people realize. 1 Tofurky reacted to this

Swayz 97 Report post Posted November 24, 2015 Marion has been listed before on the NJCAA site. They are NJCAA in all sports they have except wrestling. They compete at Nationals in Florida this year. Club team. But typically a darn good one.
