Indiana State Finals Chad Red vs. Nick Lee

Tonight at 7:30pm Chad Red will put his undefeated high school record on the line against Nick Lee of Evansville Mater Dei. Chad is a senior 3x State Champ and ranked 1st in the nation. Lee is a junior 1x state champ and ranked 4th in the nation. Lee's only loss was as a freshman to then senior Stevan Micic. Should be a great match.

What happened?

Red won in a close one. Lee build a lead early in the 1st due to some back point off a takedown. Red battled back to get the lead in the 2nd due to a scramble to back points. Seemed like the Nearfall was given quick but I was also hoping for a OT match. Red able to stay on top of Lee through most of 3rd before a late escape. In retrospect Lee should have picks neutral in 3rd since he was in on Red multiple times in 1st and 2nd. Red with a 6-5 victory.

Chad Red's a very good wrestler.  That said, I would have expected someone with that aura of invincibility to handle a HS Jr a bit more easily.

A high school Jr that has several previous national accolades, is currently highly ranked nationally, and has had his fair share international success, as well. You sir must have some impossible standards to meet.

Don't be a horse's rear.  Lee is going to PSU (as is his younger brother who won a state title tonite)...he's obviously very talented.  Red's 141-0...hence the aura of invincibility...or lack thereof.

Red is a lot more physically developed and he won the match, but given the shots all came from Lee and he got in deep 2x that he could not finish makes me think Lee, once in that Penn State room for a while, will eventually catch up to and beat Red. 

 

Great match from both wrestlers.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Red should probably upgrade to a better room.

Match lived up to the hype. Red's riding in the 3rd is what won him that match.
