March 2016 UWW RUles

Recommended Posts

Per the official UWW rulebook (online source)

Article 36 – Evaluation of the Importance of the Action or Hold

...
h) A hold must not be considered to be a new action until the competitors return to the initial position. (pg 28)

At a local freestyle tournament, the (paid adult) officials told us that the attacking wrestler in parterre had to allow the defending wrestler a moment to "defend" the turn before scoring another action. What this actually means seems up to the official's interpretation (like reaction time in folkstyle).

?

As in, consecutive leg laces don't count as more than one exposure?

The way I saw it ruled at a local Cadet/Junior tournament was you could score multiple consecutive laces as long as the bottom guy bellied out for a second. You couldn't just whirl him through really fast.

Most freestyle refs make up some random "rule" when questioned anyway.

One time I had a match where there was three man mechanics. The ref and judge both signaled different points. As I look at the chair he's blabbing his big mouth and not paying attention. He then throws up random points. I question him and his response was "my job is to agree with the person I think had the better view."
