He probably knew that Dennis was a coachable athlete and better wrestler than Ramos simple as that.

Brands did not answer to why he was not in his corner physically coaching Ramos...He turned it into a metaphorical answer by saying he has "been in his corner since he walked into the room". It was a nice way of avoiding the literal answer to the literal question.
