Ummm, 17 staff members for 9 athletes to Mongolia?

Recommended Posts

By my count, there are 10 coaches and 7 others (doctors, message therapist, nutritionist?, team leaders, etc) for 9 wrestlers going to Mongolia.  I know this qualifier is important, but does this seem like extravagant spending by USAW?  Seems like 10 staff members, total, would be way more than enough.  Use the money spent on the other 7 travelers to help fund wrestlers through the next cycle.

I found it interesting that we did not register multiple athletes for each weight. I know only one can compete, but it appears that other countries registered multiple selections as a "what if" safety measure.

I don't see the confusion.

On the FS side, clearly both athletes want to have their personal coaches there, who also are guys they can probably roll around with. After that, it makes sense to have the 2 guys (Burnett/Zadick) who work for USAW and know how foreign tournys work. Which of those 4 would you want to get rid of?

Or the funding has a certain amount budgeted towards the Olympics and the qualifying procedures that, if not spent, doesn't directly carry over into other operations. In Olympic years, you try to qualify all the athletes and spend what you must to make it happen. This makes Olympic Committees happy.
