LJB 2,093 Report post Posted May 15, 2016 JT: Yeah, I completely agree with that. I think if you want to be a Greco Olympic and World champion, you shouldn’t wrestle in college because you’re just wasting your time. the worm is turning...
repechange 184 Report post Posted May 15, 2016 Wrestling in college does hurt greco, in the case of freestyle it doesn't have to be the case.
LJB 2,093 Report post Posted May 15, 2016 from the feet the styles are very similar, but, the difference between good and great is par terre... if you are not training that with a purpose you are falling behind... 1 Tofurky reacted to this

Not just that. Huge difference in defense and finishing TDs. The quadpod position is critical. Not getting exposed after you get in on a leg or two is critical. Having a good chest lock or front headlock is lethal in freestyle and next to useless in folkstyle. The basic fundamentals of position are the same, but the rest is not so similar, even from the feet. 1 Yellow_Medal reacted to this
teach 175 Report post Posted May 16, 2016 I think another issue is having a college coach who understands your desire and is willing to work with that, not fight you?
Gantry 1,872 Report post Posted May 16, 2016 It sure sounds like Thielke didn't see eye-to-eye with his coaches at Wisconsin

teach 175 Report post Posted May 16, 2016 Wisconsin has a problem they are not willing to address, as long as teams are in the top 25 in kids aren't in trouble, they seem happy. 1 horatio reacted to this
tbert 563 Report post Posted May 17, 2016 Can't be too fun getting your ass kicked by nearly everyone in the room. Couldn't or didn't want to, get off the bottom. The when he did take someone down he couldn't turn or keep them down.
