My thoughts on the future...

Recommended Posts

Pico announced that he's staying on for another cycle.  He's the man at 65kg if he can maintain the size.  Maybe he'll be at 70kg until the next olympics?

He's the guy at 65kg?  Over the guy that beat him head to head at trials, and was in an even match for the bronze with the defending world champ?  Would Pico have fared as well this weekend?  No way.

70kg is a good weight to go for the Worlds at least up until 2018. Considering how watered down 70kg was for 2015, I think he should go 65kg for 2019 so he can qualify the weight and get a good feel for what the weight cut is gonna be like. Green obviously could not handle it.

Pico's youth is a huge factor. Molinaro is gonna be an old fart come 2020, but who knows maybe he will be gifted another Olympic qualification again.

Similar to how he was gifted a spot in the Bronze medal match?  How was a he gifted anything?  Did it have to deal with opponents caught cheating?  Or did the UWW simply like Frank, so they expanded the field by one?

They were cleared of any cheating. He never qualified the weight, he lucked out in the timing of the ban on melodium. For some odd reason UWW decided not to remove Molinaro from the Olympics after the two dudes that were removed were reinstated. That's a pretty fortunate turn of events. Who knows maybe Chamizo will drop a dirty pee test and Molinaro will get the bronze.

Hopefully he can balance this out with the MMA obligations he will have over the next few years. Sure he will be in the mix but it would be a shame if he's not at the peak wrestling level needed to ve to be a viable medal threat. Edited by MadMardigain

There's also Zain Retherford who is coming right along. If Pico is not training full time and Zain is getting that NLWC magic, you never know.

As far as heavy goes, I wonder what Adam Coon will ultimately decide to do. He did finish 2nd at the trials to Smith in Greco but he's a past junior world medalist in both styles and is a big dude. Will he stick with Greco or switch to freestyle?

Great news from Aaron Pico. I hope he gives it a go at 70kg during this year's WTT.

It is great news that he is going to continue to wrestle but from what I understand of his injury he will not be back in time for this December

lee has already recovered from injury and ran through the 3 guys who decided to show up at WTT... he suffers hard to make 50, but, that is what he has to do avoid Fix right now... he won't have that option in a couple of years...
